Reliable Product
Comment:
I work in IT and had a need for this adapter. So far, I have used it to transfer files on three different computers. It works great. One feature I really like about this product is it has a green power indicator on the adapter. This lights up when the hard disk is powered up.

Good Deal, Adequate Performance
Comment:
Works good. You will need to keep it in a ziplock bag to keep all the parts together. But for the price, it has done all I asked of it.

Power Supply went out on my desktop, pulled the hard drives and found this adapter. Hooked it up to my laptop, guess what, it works just like it is advertised. Now I have plenty of storage for backups. Great Buy!!!

Good Stuff!
Comment:
The installation disc is pretty straightforward, no drivers required for XP, plug & play. I was able to access my friend's files from a smoked PC with ease & am seriously considering putting another hard drive in a case with this to use as an external drive. I loaned it to a coworker & he's pretty impressed. Overall, good buy & I recommend it.

Does exactly what it says it does. Used it to access several drives, IDE and SATA, and it worked perfectly. Immediately recognized by XP, Vista and Windows 7. Power supply worked great as well. Highly recommended!

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Cons:Takes up a lot of space on deskCan't be used without power brick

Pros:Very good build qualityNo drivers requiredPSU is useful for testing lights and other case modding accessories
Comment:
Awesome product. I have been looking for something that can do desktop and mobile IDE as well as SATA. It is also nice that it supports IDE CD and DVD drives. The only downside is that using it for SATA devices requires a lot of extra cabling as it can't be used without the power brick. The cables required are: AC power to brick, Molex out of brick, Molex to SATA power, SATA cable from HD to adapter, USB cable from adapter to computer. On the plus side the separate power adapter means you can use it to test other components such as lighting, water pumps, fans, and anything else that takes a Molex power connector. The power adapter has an on/off switch and is quite powerful with a 1.5A 12V rail and a 1.5A 5V rail.Overall a very useful product and a must have for anyone who pulls desktops or laptops apart on a regular basis.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Cons:Lots of cables, but that's not really a weakness because they represent the adaptability of this device.

Pros:Inexpensive, versatile
Comment:
It works! This thing is more of a contraption than a device because of all the cables: molex->sata, sata data, 120V plug, adapter unit, USB, etc etc etc.But it is the handiest contraption because I no longer have to open my case up and fiddle with power & data connectors to mount a hard drive. I often examine/repair other people's hard drives (both IDE and SATA), and occasionally swap around hard drives between my two PCs. Now ... just plug everything in, and no problems.I've heard of problems with other manufacturer's SATA->USB enclosures, but that Vantec always works. 5 stars, excellent "techie" product.

Versitile, makes SATA or IDE drv hookup easy.
Comment:
Bought this product to save me having to open my computer up as I work on friends hard drives that have viruses. Wow does that save a lot of time. The connection is easy and the drives mount as a removable drive. I really like it.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Cons:-None

Pros:-Supports all common drive types-Own power supply for connected drives-Can be used completely externally-Inexpensive
Comment:
This device is absolutely necessary if you want to backup or recover data on a drive. It eliminates the need to open your case and even the need to restart your computer. The drive is also powered by its own power supply, compatible with both the standard 4-pin and SATA power cables. The device is completely plug and play with modern operating systems which makes connectivity very convenient. The transfer rate is also very impressive for a USB adapter. The price is also outstanding for the convenience this product gives you and the fact that it includes an independent power supply as well.

Works for me
Comment:
Ive tried this on two 3.5 drives, and one 2.5 drive, both IDE, works GREAT. Beats opening a case, changing jumpers. and its pretty fast. It has problems on a USB 1.1 though, so beware. It appears to be made well too! I like it!

As Promised
Comment:
The product works as promised and I am quite pleased. I needed it to use on IDE drives pulled from old machines because I want the drive to use as archives. The best feature is it does include the 110 power supply for the IDE drives which cannot be powered via the USB connection. I would purchase this product again.

Lifesaver of a product! Indespensible recovering from a lethal computer crash that killed my motherboard and power supply. Saved all my data to my laptop till I could rebuild. Would like a SCSI-to-USB but all in all tremendous value.

Comment:
Bought 2, used them once on some RAID-formatted 2.5 IDE laptop drives, worked fine. BTW, instructions are out of date, this new version doesn't have or need a power connector for 2.5 IDE drives, it just powers it off the USB.
