Great Value Large Screen Easy to use!
Comment:
I purchased my Garmin nuvi 255w for $149 new. I saw it on sale for $169 at Cabela's the next day. It is a great price. It works perfectly. You can even plan your routes indoors before you head out. I drove a mountain ridge in between Boise, and Horseshoe Bend ID, and it had all of the logging roads on it. (it would have been really sweet to have topographic maps, but thats a different model.) Really handy for finding that holiday party. I dont have to ask for directions anymore, just the address. no more getting bad directions. Also if your lost in suburbia, and need to get out just type in an intersection or point and zing... your there! This is a great tool to have, and I would totally recomend it for anyone who drives. you can even select different english accents, and foriegn languages for voice directions to make your directions more entertaining. Great GPS

Fantastic Price
Comment:
For $164.97 this was a no brainer but as I'm not was close to the store I thought to try FS-BB for price match no dice. However WM did amazing. Am well pleased with this unit,it could have a visual battery charge light and usb cable but my camera one fits ok.

I did some reserach on the various GPS units available, and decided to buy the Garmin nuvi 255. I couldn't be happier as it met or exceeded all of my needs and expectations.

Garmin 255W
Comment:
This is our first Garmin. We have two Magellan 4250s. The 255W is an absolute bargain! It came with 2010 maps, speaks the street names, posts the speed limits, allow POIs with alarms to be utilized from Phantom Alert. It quickly reroutes if you know the way already...I do not need to talk to it, nor use it for a hands-free bluetooth device. It gets the job done easily and has a big visible screen! I paid $129.

A good deal

I bought this for a friend of mind. She recently took it on a spin from Texas to Arizona. She reports that she is extremely happy with it. As always I'm very pleased with Tigerdirect's delivery times. They are excellent!

Very good basic unit
Comment:
Extremely helpful on a trip to California--can't imagine navigating the complex highway system without it. On infrequent occasions the directions can become inconsistent (''keep left'' suddenly became ''keep right'' in one instance, for example), but, overall, it was excellent.

Better than expected!
Comment:
Before reading numerous reviews about this product and knowing friends that have used this device, I was using the VZ Navigator from Verizon Wireless on my phone and this was a huge step up for me. The initial setup was very easy (downloading software updates and maps) and it acquired satellites fairly quickly. The 4.3 inch screen makes it very easy to read and the automatic day and night display function if very nice. I did notice there are a few roads that aren't added or available yet. I'm sure they'll be made available in a future update. One downside is the fact there is no traffic info unless you spend an extra $115.00 for a traffic receiver (which I have already ordered) to get up-to-date traffic info. Overall, a very well put together product and would highly recommend for new-to-GPS users.

Good Deal, Glad I Got it
Comment:
Overall I like this GPS. Its my first one. I looked at several before deciding on this one. I opted for the larger screen so that I could use a qwerty keyboard which did not seem available on the smaller screens. The pros: 1. Hooked right up to my MacBook with a standard usb to mini. 2. Was able to quickly download custom vehicles 3. Interface is large bright and easy to read. 4. Very intuitive to use The cons: 1. Too few voice choices and mispronounced words are annoying. It can't say ''ramp'' for instance 2. Errors in street names 3. Missing points of interest ie; a post office that's been there for 5 years does not show up 4. Some routes defy logic. Update: Now that I have been using this I have some additional comments. Updating maps is a problem. The web site constantly makes you re-register and re-load the updating software. (which won't work on safari (OS10.5.8) I have not been able to get the free update. Its surprising how many streets are mis-ident

Very good value
Comment:
For the price, an excellent value for a GPS navigator. Easy to read screen and the voice commands are easy to understand. Updates position extremely quickly on the move and fairly reliable instructions. On the minor side, could use a battery charging indicator as well as a "home" page button.

Great Value for the Money
Comment:
I have seen other GPS systems used before I bought this unit. I like the features and the ease of use. Solid construction, bright, wide easy to view screen. Have had no problems linking up to or keeping satellite contact. For the money this is a great GPS system. Plenty of support/accessories can be found for this GPS. A little slow in giving up coming trun directions but if you view the on screen map you can anticipate the turns. This would make a great gift for someone that is directionally challenged.

Garmin 255W GPS
Comment:
This is an easy set up item. Voice directions and volume control are great features. The only negeative issue is that in order to register the GPS with Garmin, you have to have a mini 5 pin USB cable which is not included nor mentioned anywhre in the product specifications. So be prepared to spend an addt'l $15- 20 for the cable. The cable is also necessary for mapping updates

great GPS, lousy instruction manual
Comment:
It worked right out of the box, great clarity and sound and the big, round, heavy base I purchased at the same time is really excellent. It holds great where ever I place it. BUT...... The language displayed was Russian which I don't read or speak and after several hours of fruitless attempts to get English on the screen, due to an abhorrent lack of instructions, I took it to my car dealer and had the language changed over. It is absolutely flawless in operation and I love it and this store. If they come out with a larger screen, I will be one of the first to by one.

I have recommanded to my daughter
Comment:
It does exactly what a GPS is suppose to do: which is bringing you to destination without problems. It give you verbale information at least .5 miles before road change. It's easy to use. Worth the price I paid. The only problem I had was dowtown Montreal where I lost the satellites signals where there was some close high building. The 30 days guaranty of price works well. I have used it and the difference was credited within a week. Good GPS ! Great place to buy !

with Garmin you can't be lost
Comment:
This is my second GPS. The first one was a 205W that I took to Brazil with respective maps that works flawlessly. Now, this one continues the saga......buy one and start traveling. You'll get wherever you want to go and will never regret.

Wife loves it!
Comment:
I bought this for my wife because she gets directions mixed up. She loves it. It works so well, its really amazing. With the loud verbal directions it offers you don't even have to look at it. If you travel alot especially in big cities or over the Interstates...buy one. Remember to buy only those Garmins that talk. I call our voice Madge, she is our traveling companion. I may get my daughter one for Christmas if she doesn't have one by then. Just get used to it around your community before you take off ok.

Confirmed my hopes
Comment:
Had seen this unit in my daughter's car - it seemed to have a lot of good features - breadth and depth of its data base is terrific. Now I have my own, and it is proving its worth - being a country dweller, I particularly like it for when I visit the city!

Improvements over my old 255W
Comment:
I think I left my car unlocked... so I immediately bought a replacement for my beloved 255W. It still was the model with the features I wanted, but it included some updates, the best of which is Canadian postal code lookup (e.g., K1A0R6), which gets me to the block I want much faster than address lookup. In Montreal, which has mostly French street names, the English pronunciation of street names is so bad that I always use a French speaker. Then, then English pronunciation is bad, but it's easier for me to deal with. It's a wonderful thing, particularly when traveling.

Garmin Nuvi 255W
Comment:
After reading reviews and talking to owners of the Nuvi 255W, I purchased one and made it available to family members for their travels. My daughter, who was learning to drive, used it to locate local destinations. My son used it for trips to distant destinations. Both returned from their travels with positive comments about the 255W. In large demand, this is the second 255W I've purchased. I like the unit's ability to recalculate routes. The 255W has enough features for basic use. Need I say more?

It does the trick!
Comment:
My wife and I bought this prior to a trip to San Diego, a place where we had not been before. Typing in restaurants made it easy to find the locations quickly; my wife found the malls she wanted to visit by inputting the address. Overall, it does what is advertised... sometimes if there are quick turns you need to have a general idea where you're heading prior to just trusting the instructions.

Great unit for the price
Comment:
We purchased this unit about 2 weeks before traveling for business and pleasure. It is exceptionally easy to program and use. The maps are not 100% accurate in South Louisiana (probably due to the meandering roads and waterways). We have not encountered an error that was more than 2 blocks off, but there are errors. On the other hand, we traveled to NOLA and SoCal, and it was flawless. At one point, we were using the 255W while a relative was using the GPS on her phone. It was like "Dueling GPS units." More often than not, the Garmin was more accurate than her phone. The only advantage her phone had was that it often gave directions about 100 feet prior to the Garmin 255W. The screen is a fingerprint magnet, but they are not noticeable when the unit is on. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone who needs an affordable, functional GPS unit
