Ordered 4 of these drivers in September 2009 for 贗 every single. They worked fantastic initially. A single drive failed inside three months and a 2nd failed about 18 months immediately after install. Working via warranty process now with Seagate.

Lot of spaceQuick Drive It is clicking and my testing software program says there are several failing sectors currently. Seagate wont accept a warranty exchange mainly because regardless of the clicking and failing sectors, it nevertheless manages to pass the Seatools test.

Super inexpensive.Super quickly. Bug in firmware indicates the drives are very unstable.I've purchased about 30 of these, and applied them in 3 diverse brands of RAID cards in 3 diverse chassis.I have at some point lost the data in every single single RAID5. 1 drive would die within a month, and then one more would turn out to be corrupted in the process of rebuilding the information.Seagate refuses to offer the firmware update to solve it because it competes with the RAID series of this drive which is identical but costs more.

Lots of space You Can not trust any information on this drive! The 1st 1 I got in late 09 failed within a year. It would just disappear from windows, 1st about when a week then additional frequently soon after that. Changing cables (including using cables from drives that have been working for 3+ years, and nevertheless operate), putting it in distinct computers (with other chipsets and power supplies), and every little thing else didn't help. I got a replacement from them a month ago from this writing and it's currently starting to do the same factor. Seagate's support sucks too. You can't file a warranty claim on the internet without having 1 of their codes from their "Seatools" utility, which you can't get when the bios can't even detect the drive. It took me four tries and almost two hours of total hold time more than the course of a couple weeks to get by means of to a person on the telephone, but admittedly she didn't argue with me about replacing it. Even so, it took them virtually 3 weeks to send a new drive immediately after receiving my initial defective one, and as I said, it hasn't even lasted a month this time. It price me yet another บ to ship out the first for replacement so I have around 贘 in this defective piece of junk now (I got the original in late 2009 on sale at the time). The reality that it's routinely like ์ or ๖ these days need to right away raise red flags.Don't acquire seagate, go with Western Digital and get a high quality product.

Massive and low cost if you waited. I paid 赞 every when it 1st came out thinking it was a wonderful deal but within 3 months, the price dropped beneath 贄 simply because of all the failures. Ordered a total of 4 drives. 1 had firmware issue so was returned to Newegg. 1 died after two years and took my RAID array with it.I now have 1 two-year drive running RAID 1 with a month old drive Sent the dead drive in for RMA. Immediately after a month Seagate just sent me an e-mail telling be because they ran out of refurbished 1.5TB drive, they are not going to send me a replacement. How is that for small business? Other company would've supply to send me a drive of equal or greater value if they ran out old stock but not Seagate. They will have you wait forever.

They function good when they work. Run fairly cool for a 1.5T... I've gone by means of 3 of these now. Fairly disappointing. The initial lasted me about a year then I got actuator location errors (clicking coming from the challenging drive mainly because of the arm reseting to regain location). Second lasted me 9 months or so then similar thing happens. Immediately after that they replaced it with the 5900RPM drive to try to maintain it from failing. now a year from then I hear that aggravating sound again..... Don't use AT ALL unless in Raid0 so that you don't have to transfer information all the time, OR just Completed Purchase.

Price I bought the drive a month and a half ago, but started making use of it little more than a week ago. The drive stops operating following ten-15 minutes of use, from time to time less (I already tried replacing cables and various SATA ports), so I have to unplug the drive, wait one minute, and plug it back once again. Im using the drive as a slave for backup only, but it does not perform how is supposed to.

the drive has been running well. From the poor evaluation i knew it was hit or miss with this drive, luckily for me i hot a hit. hopefully it stays reliable. I needed to update my nvidia drivers on my motherboard ahead of i could format the drive, it kept obtaining stuck at 75% but that's is no fault of the drive

Replacement drives by Seagate and customer service is great. I bought 5 of these drives for my Thecus 4100pro NAS. I applied 4 drives in a RAID 5 with 1 spare. After a year of flawless operation, the drives started to fail miserably. I contacted Seagate and they insisted there is no systemwide failure in these drives. Seagate continues to replace the drives for a nominal fee (บ for express service). I have not lost any data, but I have a genuine concern about reliability. Perhaps I chose the wrong drive?

Drives is inexpensive , fairly fast , and quiet. Built a computer software RAID5 in Linux works properly for network storgae. ordered 4 at as soon as and noticed two now have poor sectors, about 40 a piece, with a few much more every week. I wish I had checked them before hand. I am not confident if packaging was to blame or not, seems the more drives I order at a time the worse they come packaged and depending on exactly where they are shipped from. The four drives came wrapped in a block all together.

Would say cost, but I am gonna have to jump by means of hoops and spend 2x the quantity of time on this project, so no pros. 3 out of 4 drives ordered began showing smart sector relocation errors the initially day of use. This is not acceptable and the drives will be going back. I would rather do it now then when the fail in a couple months and/or I have too much reduced capacity. I keep in mind when Seagate created a solid drive. I will be RMA'ing back to Newegg and going with a different manufacturer.

It's a big, low-cost and rapidly drive. five year warranty. You're gonna require it. High failure rate, 4 Platters indicates it's far more prone to failure, it's a bit loud. Not the clicking loud, but operationally loud. I've heard that the drive will click when the read/write heads park and unpark from sleep? mode. That should be a non-concern for most, but some people today are pickier than others and it's nonetheless kinda up in the air as to what's going on behind the scenes and the impact this has on overall drive operation.Mine started clicking about the second day, but I didn't think too significantly about it, as I had heard reports of some clicking in lengthy-life drives. nicely, I say long life, but I seriously mean the ones that are nonetheless working. This item has only been on the marketplace about two years, so a ~ 22% failure rate is unacceptable. Nonetheless, I tried to be lucky and got 1 regardless of knowing the complications. I will be RMA'ing and attempting once again. I truly want to like Seagate. They were great in the past and all my older drives have not failed me. I basically replaced them. The only drives I've lost have been due my own error, as that says something taking into consideration how a lot of systems I've gone via (roughly 30 or so in the past 20 years.)If you're intent on getting this drive, do so in a technique that will NOT be bumped, shaken or jostled. If you have kids, then get some thing else with much less platters and a additional reliable failure rate. Make confident it's installed suitable. I'm obtaining a vibrational dampener for my replacement. Cheaper than paying for shipping more than and more than once again. Also, be positive to run the SeaTools diagnostics on it as soon as you connect it (you don't want to have an OS installed) and make certain the factor is gonna work ahead of you put your data on it.

Decent capacity for a decent cost ... that's about it I was using this as my technique drive when I came home from function yesterday to notice that the drive was creating clicking noises and my applications would take long to load. Came house currently and noticed that my applications weren't loading at all. I restarted my pc only to locate that Windows wouldn't load at all. Thank you Seagate. I bought this drive to replace a failing 500gb drive I owned for 3 years only to have this 1 fail in three weeks. FYI my 500gb WD drive nonetheless works and I'm installing Windows on it correct now.

Following over 2 years, still running two, in raid, 1 powerful as ever in my server. One required the firmware update from when they had been very first released, bu that has not been an concern. Can get for 60$ now with promo, bought them "on sale" for 140$ a piece, but that was worth it taking into consideration they were the largest on the marketplace at the time. Thought they had been going bad at one point, but ended up becoming ram going bad and corrupting data. Ended up loosing ӭtb. Thankfully I had backups of the data, but that just goes to show that raid 1 is not a cure all for information loss.

Quiet. Stable. Has worked for about a year now with no issues. nothing really. I could say I wish it had a free of charge SATA cable, but it's advertised as a bare drive... so that's what you get. I purchased this mainly because of an article on PC Perspective about access speed on significant drives vs. high RPM drives. They suggested partioning tricks on huge drives give you equal performance to quicker high performance mechanical drives. Even though Windows Expertise doesn't agree due to the fact it looks at the complete drive, access tests show quicker read times at the outer edge of the platters. I was able to perceive a difference in windows startup times and program loads from the 1st partition (the first 300gb). The rest was considerably slower. But considering that this was an upgrade from a SATA1.5Gbps 200GB WD drive, I'm nonetheless quite happy. I'm certain I'll be using this for a long time assuming I don't move to SSD prior to this drive dies.

Had it given that 2008, has been making use of it consistently given that then; is a lot more reliable than most of my other drives, even though I was expecting difficulties due to the massive capacity. Also due to the high information density, it is fairly quickly. Due to the huge capacity, takes a really long time to defragment when there is a lot of data on it. (Not that huge a issue since the way I use it, it doesn't tend to get too fragmented) This drive is ๠ now, but in 2008 when I bought mine it was 赞. I don't use it as my Windows pc's C: drive, but it is still kept in pretty constant use with hundreds of massive torrents that are either active or standing by & such.

Affordable You get what you pay for. I employed to only obtain Seagate drives back in the day when they had five year warranties and had been rock solid. Just had my 3rd 1.5 TB 7200.11 fail. 've been i the IT enterprise for 25 years, so I had backups (and backups of backups) so didn't shed any data. Soon after the 1st 2 failures, I started running these in a raid 1 mirror. Great thing. Now that I have 3, I can constantly have 1 in transit to Seagate for replacement. Utilised to be a loyal Seagate customer. These drives have beat it out of me.
