Cons:None

Pros:Amazing performanceCheap for the amount of storage
Comment:
This drive is a amazing. I've bought 2 already and will eventually be replacing all of my existing drives with them. If you are thinking about getting one of these, think no more. There were some firmware issues in the initial production runs, but they have been sorted out. NCIX seems to have replaced their entire stock with drives from later runs which already have the new firmware installed.

After reading much about this drive, I decided to take a chance, mostly because the firmware upgrade was said to cure all ills. I received the CC1G firmware, and have had no issues as-is (no firmware upgrade). Also received one with CC1H, and same thing, no issues. Note: If you are installing this drive on an nForce board, be sure your drivers are on a CD or a USB drive and load them on OS install. Over-all, very nice drive. Lots of capacity/$ Gets 5.9 rating on Vista 64.

Cons:Last month's firmware issues were a bit much and waiting for new firmware, hoping that nothing went wrong, waspretty scarry. WD has issues with it's Green drives along with Linux. No company is perfect.

Pros:1.5 TB to store all of my junkPrice on sale was great. Reliability
Comment:
Okay, so my friend and I had a scare with the Seagate firmware issue a month ago with twelve drive between the two of us having to be re-flashed. It was an intense time and we swore never to buy seagate again... but... well... we did. Cant really blame people, or you can because it's their job, but the priduct is still superior to most others. And the WD Black's are a bit too pricy, and stop at 1 TB. Now if NAS hardware was a bit cheaper. I dont mind spending money on drives, but $400-800 on a NAS box that might die in a year or two is horrible. I read too many reviews and nothing good, unless switch to blades and such

I had 1 74 gig Raptor primary with 2 250gig Western Digitals in RAID mirror for My Documents storage. I took out the Raptor and used my 2 250 gig drives in stripping for C drive and put 2 1.5 TB drives in RAID mirror for My Documents storage. My main concern was will the stripping drives be fast enough after the Raptor, and they totally are! They run a smidge slower, but overall much smoother and quiter. The 1.5 TB drive works like a dream, fast quiet and HUGE. I now have almost 2 TB storage between C and D drives, plus the Seagate installation software worked like a dream (drive cloning) where as I always had a problem with the WD software.

I saw all the bad reviews and was afraid to buy these. I wanted to build a movie server and you just cant beat the price. I called Seagate prior to purchasing and they looked up the model numbers even though I had not purchased yet. All the drives I got from here were none of the bad batch. I bought 11 of these and set them up as two 5 disk arrays, raided in a raid 5. So I have two sets of 5 disks each in a raid 5 array, about 5.4 TB per array. The last one I used as the OS drive. My biggest issue was getting past the 2TB limit in every OS. This took some research but was not as difficult as I thought; you just need to partition as GPT instead of NTFS, otherwise you cant go bigger than 2TB, unless you software raid and I didnt want that. Other than that, these drives work great, they are very quiet, run as cool as any drive Ive ever had, even with 11 in one case. I have put a huge load on this for about two weeks with no issues, no DOA drives, no noises, all is well. So you

Had the external USB/FireWire/eSata version (two of them). Both starting exhibiting the problems the rest of the 7200.11 series of drives are having. Luckily, the company I bought them from (not Tiger) issued an RMA for a refund and even a UPS pre-paid label. Run away from Seagate drives as fast as you can. Their products once were great; today they'regarbage.

I purchase this drive two weeks ago and have been very happy with it. If you go to the Seagate web site and download the software tools (DiscWizard) for installation and backup, you will not have any problems. The installation worked just as instructed. Very happy with this purchase.

DOA on the first 1 I paid $20 on top of the $130 I already paid just to get a warranty replacement from seagate. I buy all my PC parts here and this wouldn't cause me to shop elsewhere, just not buy seagate next time. Research all the reviews from this and other sites first.

I now own 3 of these drives. On sale or via price match they are a real bargain and if you have a lot of data, like i do...its perfect to fit into your home desktop. All the firmware issues that these models have experienced in the past few months have been resolved by Seagate, plus the 3 drives that i got from NCIX are newer revisions that have not been affected by these issues anyhow (checked with Seagate via Serial #s)I have now owned a total of 11 drives from Seagate and to-date non have failed. Will buy from them again!Cheers.

Just received the second one today that was DOA this was to replace the first one that was received DOA. Two hard drives in two weeks what are the chances? Checked the enclosure that worked perfectly with a different drive and checked both 1.5TB Seagate in a known working case no luck.... Think twice against this drive; dont think anyone would want to risk losing that much data. Guess I am going to have to look at other options... Seagate you really need to reconsider this product since it is having this many issues.

i bought this one on boxing day and install vista 64 2 weeks ago. it now sounds like some metal parts inside the HDD have broken and the read/write speed sometime drops to 0M/s. from time to time my BIOS can not find this drive, even found, i was not able to watch movie or listen music. I bought three of these drives over a 2 week span. One came CC1H, one came CC1J, one came SD1A. The CC1J arrived DOA. Seagate replacement arrived a week later DOA. Waiting on 2nd replacement of that drive now. CC1H worked for a week then died, taking all my data with it. Replacement for this drive arrived DOA. Waiting on it's second replacement. SD1A locks up every other hour for 10-15 seconds at a time. You can hear it constantly seeking too. Despite trying these in several computers, there's nothing that can be done except to wait for Seagate. Even their own people say there's quality control issues with hardware that they can't fix at this time.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:- two major firmware bugs (freezing & bricking)- random head clicking- poor Seagate customer service, censoring of problem posts on their forums, dragging their feet in releasing fix to public

Pros:- Cheap $/gb- very large capacity
Comment:
Yes, these were the largest hard drives that you could get for the past few months. Transfer rates are very good. Drive is fairly quiet in operation, but suffers from frequent head clicking.BUT, Seagate dropped the ball with the firmware on these drives. First it was the random freezes when transferring large files. Rather than providing a fix right away, they at first delayed any action and then when they had a fix, you needed to beg for the firmware and illustrate that you have a problem (if you didn't experience it, it doesn't mean that the bug isn't there - just that you haven't yet come into a situation such that it was observable; however, Seagate in that case wouldn't want to give out the updated firmware). Now second firmware issue has arisen, apparently they can brick like the 500GB & 1.0 TB 7200 drives. Firmware should be flashed as a precaution. That's it. Customers shouldn't be expected to beta test retail products and potentially suffer from massive data losses. Now with WD 2GB drives out, the choice is clear.

Cons:Freezes a lot, for durations of 20-60 seconds. Scared that it could crash and lose a lot of data.

Pros:Huge storage. Good price.
Comment:
Seagate still has not replied after 2 weeks of contacting them about the problem of it freezing. Apparently there is a new firmware update  that will stop this issue but it's not available on the Seagate site, only through customer support directly. Do an online search for Seagate trouble and you'll see the list pile up. They have such poor support and they've cut their warranty from 5 to 3 years. Horrible support...I have bought many Seagate drives in the past however I would not recommend them any more. Go Western Digital, pay a bit more for quality and reliability. Now I can see why Seagate is so cheap, poor quality assurance and support. My two 1TB drives have both had a problems now, and I regret buying this drive.Get Western Digital instead!!

Purchased and received two of these. UPS deliverd to the wrong apartment so had to raise hell with UPS to recover. Installed one drive but couldn't get Discwizard to partition it, tried the second drive, same thing. Firmware starts with CC for both. At 50% reading Discwizard respond with constant analyze sectors errors, so couldn't complete the partition. Tried formatting in Windows but too much sector errors, program hang. Not what I expect of Seagate product and I am fan of Seagate. Seagate Drive detect tool couldn't detect the drive but Windows OS (Vista) detect it and even assigned it a drive letter but just couldn't read or copy to.

I have bought 3 of these all in early January, for my N4100Pro media server. I set up 3 in raid5 and got a warning on 1 of the drives. It stated ''Reallocated Sector Count = 3''. Although it was just one of 3 drives(raid5 protects against any 1 failing) I bought another one and replaced it. I am using this as a hot spare now. They work well for now after about 150hours of use. F/W : CC1H For media use (720p&1080p video streaming) it has more than acceptable performance.

I always trust Seagate HDD. I got like almost 10 HDD from them none of them gone bad like my old Samsung HDD. 32MB cache is like the 1TB version. I would go for this one cuz of the 0.5TB more. I now don't buy anymore DVDs to store my data. Just HDD, cuz fast access to data, takes less space. Btw... it makes noise. 500GB is the loudest, I don't mind the minor noise.
