2nd time buying becarefull of the batch you get!
Comment:
I bought 2 of these drives in January and they have been working fine. I then just bought a 3rd 1.5tb drive may 11,09 and it was clicking as soon as I hooked it up. I went back exchanged for another, still couldnt format properly, (created partition etc okay but format would not complet) I took it back and this time I made the technition test the next one, We went througha total of 5 drives and couldnt get one to work. It seems the whole batch was bad This was from TL i think taiwan and the date code was 0931. The firmware was up to date on the drive CC1H i beleive I think if the drive you get is bad the whole batch will be. I am surprised Seagate hasnt fixed this yet as this seemed to be a problem late last year and the firmware upgrade they did fixed it. Seagate must be going through some problems right now with different manufacturing locations. I will still buy seagate but make sure you run all the seagate tools to test the drive after you install it! p;

Seagate FYI from an Old Hat
Comment:
I've been a System Tech for 20 years, Seagate is hands down the best HD Manuf. going. Over the years I've purchased Hundreds of HDs, Seagate is the most reliable. I have a server that has been running 24/7 for 9 years (except for the Big blackout). I'm not saying I've never had one go bad or DOA, but Seagate's RMA process is the fastest with absolutely no hassle. You can fire bullets through it and they'll still Warranty it. Most of their 7200 rpm drives are warrantied for 4-6 years, additional just this year they have a rated service life of 120 years! I believe them. The turn around for RMA is usually about a week. And I don't work for Seagate, I just want to save you some headache.

Cons:power hungryspin up current much higher than WDC driveshad 1 drive out of 9 die within the first month with death-click

Pros:big drivelow pricedecent performance
Comment:
This drive has a good capacity/price ratio at about 10GB/$The best I've seen in recent times is about 12.5GB/$ for a 1TB Hitachi. If 2TB drives were at this price range, I would start buying them.

Nothing to complain about, lots of space, decent performance. Another one to throw in the array and works like a charm.

Cons:None so far

Pros:Quiet, quick, cool, huge.
Comment:
I replaced a 750GB WD with this drive last week as I was running out of space on my WHS, with six SATA hard drives connected. This drive runs perfectly so far. It seems that the flakiness has been worked out. It is always a good idea to hold off on purchasing the newest technology if your data could be at risk. I am glad I waited... and finally took the plunge. Now that 2TB drives are out this is a heck of a deal at the same price as a 750GB drive was a year ago.

Comment:
Buy it only if you plan on backing everything up .If this is what you do ,than you have nothing to worry about.Any hard drive can fail but Seagate likes to have they're hard drives roast.Make sure that whatever you do this thing does not touch any other metal and that the PCB never makes contact with another piece of metal like say for example in an external hard drive enclosure. The Barracuda has a rep for liking to burn up.Ive had several of theyre hard drives and many of them come with no protection for the PCB or Printed Circuit Board .Im not quite sure what theyre logic is on this one but any hard drive design that has the PCB exposed to possible contact is a bad idea. As with anything experiences may vary and your might be just fine. For the price its almost worth the gamble considering how much space you get.Up till the time mine roasted it worked great !!

I tried it in two computers and in three different enclosures. All it does is click. I've had the IT department at my company check it out and they say it's no-go. Junk. I wish I had believed all the negative reviews instead of the positive ones. Have to figure out how to get my money back now.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:Not quite as fast as the WD Blacks.

Pros:Lots of storage, good performance.
Comment:
I purchased two of these drives for my Dlink DNS-321 enclosure, one back in December and one more recently. While not quite as fast as the WD black edition drives these have performed very well and I haven't had any issues with freezing for firmware problems like many others have. Will definately purchase again.

Bought this when it first hit the street at over $350 almost 2 years ago and have not had one problem with it with a Ultra inclosure. It has been through the 15 month tour in Iraq hoping around in my pack on helicopters and C130s with no issues what so ever. I Hitachi 1TB, though that failed while this still kept on running in the high heat and dust.

The hard drive I bought did not work; it made a clicking noise and froze my PC. I brought it back the following day and got a replacement without a hitch. I was very impressed by their customer service. I thought they might have asked me to send the drive to the manufacturer. It was very easy to install the drive and it works well. It is fast and silent. What I like best is its huge capacity. My drive C: is 1000T, and drive D, 1.5T. David

Comment:
After trying to format the hard drive 3 times unsuccessfully, I decided to look into the threads and forums with this known issue of this hard drive. The hard drive continued to freeze up at 73% done. I downloaded SeaTools, updated the hard drive firmware, and updated drivers for my 680I motherboard. None of these were successful. I came across an article about nForce SATA_IDE drivers v10.3.0.21. This was actually an older SATA driver than I had. I gave it a shot . Downgraded my driver and the drive formatted successfully. Now I have a huge hard drive for my media. Hope this helps with anyone else having the same issue.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:none

Pros:Huge storage, low cost per gig, solidly built, no firmware issues
Comment:
I bought this in a surprise special for $139.99 and at that time it was the lowest price/gig HDD from NCIX. I put this in my D-LINK DNS-323 and it was detected right away. The device formatted this drive and all of 1.5TB were available. I have transferred about 500GB of stuff from another DNS-323 and have been really happy with the transfer speeds. My WRT54GL does not have gigabit ethernet, otherwise the transfers would be much faster. This is tucked away in a NAS, so I do not hear the hard-drive noise, so I cannot comment on that. Overall, good buy.

This HDD is one solid, very quiet, fills to 1.45ish TBs, and we've partitioned it out and have been filling it with stuff all week. would recommend to anyone looking for an internal hard drive. (i put 4 stars for value because right after we bought it, they knocked off $20)

Read the bad reviews, read the good ones. Ordered one because it has a 32MB cache (the Hitachi 1TB only has 16) along with a hard drive dock. Order arrived the next day, everything in perfect shape. Hooked it up, partitioned and formatted. No problems. I can't hear noise, but I can feel it... felt smooth and kept cool. Ordered a 1 TB about 8 months ago and had no problems with that Seagate either. Been using Seagate hard drives for years now. Had one crash but Seagate's customer service was great and hard drive fixes were easy -- that hard drive is still going strong 5 years later. Seagate has a good product. I'm sure they have a bad batch now and then and some customers get unlucky, but I was never one of them. I just missed the price reduction, but 1.5 TB at $129 wasn't a bad deal.

As many others, the 1.5TB HD only lasted 3 months. I sent it back and there is a refurbished under way in return. I do not recommend buying Seagate at this time (see all reviews here and everywhere). I bought 2 Hitachi 1GB as replacement and I will sell the 1.5 TB substitute as soon as I get it. I do not trust Seagate brand for the moment.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:There was a firmware issue in the earlier versions.

Pros:Lots of space at a decent price.
Comment:
I purchased one for my backups and after some reading I was worried that I'd get a drive with the firmware issue. I went ahead and bought one anyway. The good news is that the firmware on mine had a different version that the affected ones. I formatted it in a silver river duo enclosure and was worried that it wouldn't detect it because the box only shows that it supports 1TB drives. There were no issues with it detecting or formatting the drive and have been using it for many weeks without any problems.
