I had bought this a while back when it was on sale for 120-130ish... (back when this was a real good price) i can say it didn't disappoint, great drive, but i wouldn't use it as your main drive, as it may be more prone to failure due to the high drive density. (and multiple platters)

This is my 3rd 7200.11 drive ive purchased. Only my original 7200.11 500gb had the firmware problem. My second 500gb and this 1.5tb drive came with the updated firmware, which have no problems.

I was concerned after purchasing two of these drives and doing some 'review research' online that they would be noisy, unreliable, slow, etc. No need to have worried - they can only be heard when they spin up, seem completely reliable (and have an excellent warranty), and are anything but slow. Great hard drives, excellent value.

To counter the UPS bashing. I think it depends where one is. My last FedEx package was so beat up I thought it was used for a pickup football game. My UPS service has been great for the last 6 years! THe HD itself is working well!

I got this for a storage drive and it worked fine up to now. i got none of the problems some other user seem to have. the performance is more then i expected for sutch a large drive.

ner used fed x it will take 2 weeks to get it no mater if it a 3 day shimpment it all way 2 weeks ups i all ways got my stuff in 3 days

For a mechanical drive this really is great. HUGE capacity and very quick due to the density of the platters. This drive may require that you upgrade your bios (check your motherboard support site) 5 year warranty is almost a thing of the past.

Owned it for two months, before the clicking problem started. Have the latest firmware, and it is the cch1 model. system freezes, and some corrupt files, which is becoming more frequent. Not to excited about sending back for replacement, as they are time bombs.

I know there was a big debacle about this series of drives, so here's my opinion/review.I have been using 2 for a while with no problems. I am gonna say the firmware issue is fixed, and any mechanical failures in this same product were/are hopefully unrelated and/or fixed now..This product would have gotten 5 stars just based on performance and 3 year warranty and price... If it wasn't for seagate's appalling behaviour (usually you RECALL defective stuff!) with regards to the firmware issues on this drive... but that was early 2009 hopefully it's all good now...I'd still rather have one of these than the crazy WD Green that kills itself by parking its heads all the time..

All these drive off the assembly line are fantastic. Basically, if you have a bad drive, theres a good chance it was the handling that messed it up. UPS destroys a large percentage of there shipments. Ive had anything from PC to musical equipment trashed by there delivery services. Better to go FedEx if theyll do it.

I got the drive two weeks ago, installed and formatted without a hitch, no failures or evidence of them. Fast transfer rates, best in 1 to 1.5TB class, although i hear I O performance is better on the 1TB WD Caviar Black, this still is a lot faster than my 160GB WD Caviar Blue. At this point it is the best value drive since it is being sold for $130, while the cheapest 1TB is the Hitachi 7000K.B for $90. You are getting 1.5 times the space for 5 bucks less (90x1.5 is 135) but more importantly you probably wont have to buy a new drive as soon, since the extra 500GB is a nice cushion, so it might save you more in the long run.

10 days after installation, system freeze ups were noticed, by 28 days, loud clicking noises. By 33 days BIOS would not recognize. She's now dead folks, just outside NCIX warranty period. Freezer trick wouldn't help. Read the internet about the seagate 7200.11 series before you buy, I wish I had, don't just assume a 'good name' is good enough.

I shortstroked this puppy to be a boot drive while waiting on a good price on an SSD. Amazing speed. Though still suffers from the slow access time of a 7200rpm drive.

Very happy with this drive. It's quite and big enough I won't need anymore for awhile. I use it in my WHS so speed isn't an issue as it's only accessed via Gb Lan.

Good drive for the money. I would buy one of these again for one of my systems or anybody's for that matter. I did not it gets a little warm though so if you don't have a good case with airflow you might want to add a HD cooler.

Got one of these a couple of months ago to copy videos out to. Have not had any problems. Just put in a order for another one.

Fast, cool and quiet one-platter design hard drive. Great price when on sale. Got it for a friend who needed, he's very happy with it.

Jumped on this drive when it was on Sale a while ago for about $100, I have had good experience with Seagate in the past, so I wasn't worried. The last 3 HDD I bought where from them, and are still running fine. This one is no exception, and I am experiencing no issue with it. go for it if you are looking for a larger drive at a good price point.

gonna have to agree those who gave this a 1 or 2 overall don't know what there doing i am running 4 of these in my pc and all of them are still running great 2 years later getting ready to put 2 more in vista does not require raid drivers maybe thats where they failed who knows but these are great drives

I have hate my Seagate 1TB and this Seagate 1.5TB die within 2 weeks of each other. This drive began hanging my system and making "clicks of death" in less than a month of being installed in my system. Do some serious research before buying this drive. You will find the failure rate for both the Seagate 1Tb and 1.5TB are tremendously high. So much to the point that Seagate is offering free data recovery to it's customers to try and save their PR. I will never be buying a Seagate drive ever again.

Great drive for the price paid. Easy to setup and use. Fast data transfer rates, great for media applications. Would purchase this drive again without hesitation. Better than the seagates drives I have installed beside it. Very reliable.

Purchased as a data drive and works great. The drive runs fast and makes little noise. I notice it runs a little hot, but I have a 120mm fan that cools all of the internal drives in my case. The warranty is only 3 years (compared to 5) but that seems to be the norm these days.
