Quiet, lower power consumption, Western Digital drives have seldom failed on me 50% failure rate, getting to pay to ship WD's faulty equipment back to them I purchased four of these less than a year ago. I've utilized them in various configurations in the identical machine. 1 began seeing errors early on, but WD Diagnostics stated it was very good, so I believed that it ought to have been a thing with ntfs-3g. It died about four months later. The second drive lasted ten months.Gear fails, so it's always a good thought to maintain backups, and I can't fault WD for the extra array I had to create (using Seagate drives). Even so, I've spent far more time in the past year trying to recover information from these drives than I have working with them.

Affordable. Huge. Appears to have a lot of failures but mine nevertheless works so far. Got this drive for my girlfriend as a storage drive. I see a lot of individuals complaining about how slow these drives are etc. In my opinion, drives like this are fantastic for about two items, storage and backup. They aren't going to be the fastest so really shouldn't be applied as an OS drive or anything like that but thats just my opinion.

- Quiet- No Intelligent errors or errors right after Synology DS410 NAS ran its tests - Runs fairly warm- Speed may possibly be a small on the slow side even compared to other 5400rpm drives I have it setup in a Synology DS410 NAS and the NAS absolutely appears slower after the introduction of this tough drive but nonetheless is a lot fast for my demands. This drive runs about ten-11 degrees hotter at idle/minimal use and closer to 13-15 degrees hotter under load. Thankfully the other drives in the NAS do not appear affected by the elevated heat of this new HD (presumably mainly because the NAS is nicely ventilated and cooled). But the heat does somewhat issues me with regards to long term reliability.

Wonderful cost to GB ratio.Low heat.Low power consumption. None I have owned several green WD drives and Black drives, and it usually bugged me when individuals compare them. These are green drive of course they are slower. But, when people speak about receiving much less than 30MB transfers they are almost certainly running them in IDE Compatibility mode. Try switching to AHCI, I get 80-100MB typical on transfers.

Quiet and runs really cool. WD Support is wonderful. 1464 negative sectors just popped up immediately after a year. Now that is with the drive powered on 100% of the time. The drive reports 1. years powered up (had it precisely a year, so that sounds proper). It shows it has only been power cycled 15 occasions (in my server, which almost never gets restarted), so it is not consistently on and off. At least Fedora yells at me and tells me it is failing so I have time to move data and order RMA. WD support website is really easy. I entered my serial number, it told me when my warranty expires, and I requested an RMA. You have the solution of giving them your cc number and they will ship the drive then you return the old one particular, or with no cc, you ship it back initially and they replace. Nonetheless quite simple. First time out of nearly 100 WD drives that I have had one particular fail. Had a few poor sectors prior to, but not that many.

Very good price tag for a SATA drive. Poor option for Windows XP. Need to have bought the EAD model or a more normal SATA drive. There was no warning with the drive that I must jumper pins 7Ƅ, nor was a jumper supplied. I have however to get this drive to boot with an XP Master Boot Record, though I have been able to clone the information. WDC has not responded because I contacted them on 2 January about XP boot troubles. I needed a PCI controller and SATA power cable to round out the equipment necessary. The controller came with a SATA signal cable.

Purchased 2 of them just just before Christmas, at the unbeatable cost of ๋. Both fired proper up, formatted and are working great. I have them operating externally on a Raid1, connected by USB, so I can't comment on the speed. I'm certain it's slower than the WD Black HDDs, but due to the fact it's for archiving, I'll take the power savings. none (crossing fingers) Wonderful Value, Newegg.

Runs cool, lower power consumption. Crystal Disk Information was showing an error under the category "C5 Present pending sector count". I ran the Western Digital Data Lifeguard utility. It returned "Too quite a few poor sectors detected" and could not repair them. I designed an RMA with Western Digital and I ought to have the replacement in a couple of days. I bought the drive on 5ǜ񳏊 and it only lasted 8 months. The drive was lightly used to shop Acronis pictures for my Computer's. I have been mainly loyal to Western Digital due to the fact 1995 and this is the second WD drive to fail in dozens of their drives I have bought. I hope this drive was just an anomaly!

1. Dirt low-cost 1.5TB!!! !!! !!! !!! 2. Easy install. Employed WD-Align utility for Win XP.3. Cloning software program offered at http://www.wdc.com/advformat . I employed WD's totally free cloning software program to make a mirror image of my old drive. Thank you, Western Digital! NONE I will certainly buy Western Digital drives in the future. My last Seagate 1.5 TB refused to boot half the time from day 1. Named Seagate, they had no tips. This WD drive installed on the similar computer system & OS with NO Issues whatsoever. Blue skies, infant! Blue skies! Boots WIN XP with no problems.Nonetheless, I think the key selling point for this drive is the software that users can download from Western Digital. It's not specifically effortless obtaining a no cost cloning utility these days. WD solves a widespread dilemma that most challenging drive buyers encounter. Seagate supplied no such cloning utility with their drive.

Massive, supposedly trustworthy... I bought this drive to free up my major RAID drives of 648 gigs... 1st storage drive I have purchased. So I stored the initial 650 gigs on this drive, then an additional 300g of other data. Following two days It stoped operating in the middle of a transfer and windows uninstalled its driver... From there out the drive was presumed dead by Western Digital support and they told me to RMA it.. Not worth it go with one more drive.

The WD15EARS drive is fairly fast. The 64MB cache is a nice touch for this class of "green drives. The cost is incredibly reasonable despite the fact that not as excellent as the Samsung 2TB drive at per TB basis. When the Windows 7 laptop woke up, the WD 1.5TB drive was mysteriously missing whilst other Seagate and Samsung drives were all present.I was going to replace this drive but located Microsoft KB977178 hotfix for this really difficulty. Whose fault is it? It could be the Windows fault but none of other 1.5TB Seagate and 2TB Samsung drives had this challenge. It makes 1 wonder what testing the WD engineers have carried out in this area. I would not buy this WD drive again given the nature of the wake up problem. The 2TB Samsung drive only costs บ more and does not have this difficulty.
