Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:not more capacity, not cheaper
Pros:capacity, color, size and shape Comment:
Got this pricematched by 10$. A drive is a drive. What more can I say? You should shop around because NCIX is never the cheaper around unless an item is on special. The order took well over 30 days to get to me because an other item's pricematch had been refused and they didn't take care of taking into account the fact I had paid the difference for counter offer upgrade I accapted. Pricematch refusals are a mess and you should get the whole order scratched and be refunded to start another. Without forgetting the fact I can pricematch 9 out of 10 items I purchase with them... |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:None
Pros:Quiet, Cool, Low power, WD Warranty Comment:
Using this drive in an external usb/esata enclosure for TIme Machine backup. Not the fastest drive out there but for cheap, reliable storage backup these can't be beat. Runs much cooler than the previous 7200.10 I had been using which is to be expected as it consumes about 1/3 the power. |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:- Slow!
Pros:- Great price/capacity ratio- Good warranty- Relatively Silent Comment:
This hard drive is perfect as a secondary drive for which the performance is less important. All my photos and videos are stored on this drive. Note that the performance is not adequate for a primary drive. I have not issue with noise. |

Good, large, drive with an amazing price. Even if you just save a little bit on power drawn, it is worth going for green drives when you can. |

Pros: Listed Below Comment:
The Green Series of WD drives are meant to be low power STORAGE drives and they accomplish this feat extremely well. These drives are extremely cheap and reliable but DONT put your programs or operating system on it! They complement SSDs very well. Right now the 2TB version is on for the same price as this one so... GET THAT ONE INSTEAD |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:
Somewhat slow
Pros: Big and cheap Comment:
I'm going to directly compare this against my Caviar Black SATA 3.0 when I get my hands on it, but as it is it's cheap storage and pretty quiet. I've had pretty good luck with Western Digital drives over the years so I've been sticking with them, but honestly harddrives will always be hit or miss in terms of reliability as far as I'm concerned. |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:
Pretty bad write speeds.Unable to multitask a lot. (Can't extract a bunch of rar files while watching a video)
Pros: Good storage capactity. Comment:
All in in, I am satisfied with the price paid, however the whole 4KB advanced format thing may be accounting for some speed issues. My EADS drive (32mb cache) performs better than this EARS version. Good read speeds, but write speeds are around 60MB/s when the hard drive is half full, not the 87MB/s that I was expecting. |

none so far, it's used as storage so the decreased 5400 RPM speed is not an issue
Pros: Plenty of storageGot it on sale Comment:
Great drive for the price, I'm using it purely for storage, and it operates as expected, and of course it's a green drive which is a bonus since it's online 24/7. |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:
not as fast
Pros: 4kb blocksless powerless heat Comment:
Bought this drive for my external enclosure. The use of less power and producing less heat makes it ideal for external. It doesn't spin as fast as 7200RPM drives but with 4kb blocks the performance is not bad. |

Pros: Good capacity for the $$,low power consumption Comment:
I am using two of these in external enclosures as backup to my media library, which is on a mirrored set of disks in my nas enclosure. So far not bad performance as my backups are completing overnight and there does not appear to be any issues with bad sectors or performance as others have noted. |

Cons:
probably not the best for an OS drivewish OEM drives came with some screws but what can you do
Pros: price4kb sectorsspeed64mbgreen 5400rpmsquietenergy Comment:
Got my drive for $99 on sale, which was a very nice price for a 1.5TB although the 2TB drive was a better deal it only had 32MB, so I went with the 1.5TB drive. Installed it into a windows 7 system 64bit, which has become the 5th drive installed in it and this being the largest and will be a storage drive.after installed i formatted which didn't take that long (quick format). The I began to copy stuff over.test 1 : 64GB of large and small data peak:120MB/s avg: 86MB/s low: 72.6 MB/s-This of course was the first write to the drive so it should be fairly high speeds. (aprox: 6000 items transfered)*This write was from partition 2 of 2 of the C drive to this WD 15 ears drive.test 2:all large files~300GBmax: 84MB/s avg: 73MB/s low: 64MB/sstill some fairly nice writes to the drive.not from C drive but from one of the other drives in the computer that is a 7200rpm.now the drive is over half full and the speeds are usually sitting at 60MB/s - 70MB/s for writes which is fairly nice.Read from the drive or Write to another drive from WD 15 ears-drive writing to is empty.-WD15ears is over half full.~12.2GBmax: 110MB/s (quickly dropped) avg: 59MB/s min: 56.2MB/sStill nice and fast.I have not noticed any problems with this drive or any noise from it. This is my first Western Digital drive in years (5+) had to try this one out because of its features (Strengths). If I had the money to spend I would buy another or perhaps the 2TB size whichever was better bang for buck.I am very happy with this hard drive! 5stars |

Good drive but new features user should be aware o
Comment:
I bought this drive and imaged the data from my other hard drive over to it. Everything was really slow when using the new drive. I found out the Western Digital has introduced advanced format drives, which you must download a utility from their website (free of charge) to sort the data optimally. It took 24 hours for the process to complete, but after complete the drive works really well. |

Priced matched the 1.5TB for $75 and so far has been performing wonderfully as a media storage and backup drive for my desktop PC.
