Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:
Bit slower than 72K RPM drivesNew 4K sector drives (needs special realignment for older OSes)
Pros: Price on SaleLarge CapacityLow HeatLow Acoustics Comment:
Got one of these to give it a whirl as a potential replacement for the EADS drives I've been putting in users' computers for storage. They have double the cache of the EADs but don't perform much better. The 4K move from 512B for the sector size has a theoretical gain for supported operating systems like Windows 7 since the default cluster size for NTFS is 4K but I haven't really seen it.Keep in mind that the EARS drives have to have the alignment tool run on them to work with Windows XP and other older operating systems. Use the Acronis CD image version from the WD site as it allows you to select the drive and partition to realign. Don't use the Paragon version as it reboots your computer anyway, and it realigns ALL your drives and partitions regardless of whether they need it or not and this is VERY time consuming. Also realign right after formatting, since it has to move data if it exists on the partitions; so a fresh partition and format realign is very fast. |

Had to back up my movies that were sitting on 640GB drives. I was able to move them all with a little room to spare for Steam back ups, files, music and software. It's almost full now but I still got my 640GB's so I have plenty of storage... For now. |

Cons:
A little slow for a mid range to high end drive
Pros: Quiet, cool, dynamic power consumption Comment:
This hard drive on special is worth every penny! Paired with a Vantec Nexstar CX on eSata is just terrific for streaming HD movies! I wouldn't use it as a main gaming rig Hard drive though. |

Comment:
This drive is not recommended for Windows XP due to the 4k block size. It is highly recommended you read around online for information about this drive and its issues. As long as you're running Vista or 7, you should be fine. |

Pros:Low noise, large capacity, green Comment:
Great hard drive. Used in HTPC running MCE and I can't hear it. I have used different brands and this WD green is the lowest noise I've seen so far.Installed just before the Olympics... I was able to record tons of events in HD! If anything goes wrong with it, I'll come back to report. |

Pros:-Cheap, Cheap, Cheap !!! HDD Galore !!-Decent performance-Lots of space ;) Comment:
Really great for storage especially with the size of HD movies. Not to be used as a primary drive as the power-saving feature slows the performance down.A steal at $100 |

Cons:Speed... no surprise here!
Pros:Dead quiet! Price per GBLow power consumption Comment:
The WD15EARS does a very good job as a main data storage drive. Even if it isn't as fast as a 7200rpm drive, It runs cool and quiet enought to be the perfect addition to any HTPC setup or to be added as an extra drive in an existing system.Recommended setup : A fast Solid State Drive for your OS and Apps and a WD15EARS for your datas.Would definitively buy again... so far! |

Cons:Nothing, other than it is not Dual Processor
Pros:Runs Cool & Fast Comment:
Have a little trouble installing - when I went to format, it fail at 1.1 GB but after help from tech support it works great. If you have nvidia/nforce motherboard you may need to update the drives - the motherboard does not support drives more than 1.1 GB without the update . Tech Support was very helpful, prompt in their reply and great advise. |

Cons:None as of yet
Pros:Quiet, cool Comment:
I was initially hesitant to purchase a green drive, as speed was a concern. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with this drive. While I use it in an external dock for back up of video and audio, I have had no issues with playback on my HTPC.generally, the price is great and the units run cool, but again, my units are not inside a case. |

Cons:-None Yet
Pros:-Price-Storage Space-Quiet Comment:
I got one of these drives for media storage. It will eventually be placed in my media server which is in progress. But for now it is in my desktop with mostly video, and some audio stored on it. I had been putting my video files on my external TB drive but have been watching the prices of these drop and when the price was right I picked one up. I am very happy with it and have it already have it half full. I have streamed video over my network with no problems and don't notice any heat increase in my system. I am very happy with this drive and plan on adding a couple more down the road. Recommended! |

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:None
Pros:5degC cooler than other drives Comment:
Don't buy this drive if all you care about is random seek time or fast transfer time. It's not noticeably slower but buy this drive for what it was designed for - low power and low heat. I've got this drive, 2 Hitachi 7K1000.B and one WD Black in my Mac Pro aluminum tower. This WD consistently runs 5degC cooler than my other drives even under heavy usage - don't think I've seen it get over 33degC. It's also whisper quiet. As my boot drive is an SSD, I'm going to eventually upgrade all the other drives to the WDXXEARS series. |

I need to replace my 1TB Green, as that was getting full with anime. Well this WD 1.5TB Green on sale for $99, I couldn't pass it up.The drive quiet, stays very cool in my case, around 27c. This review was modfied by poster @ 03-05-10 01:20 PM |
Il s'agit d'un bon rapport qualité vx prix. Cependant il est bien pour l'archivage de données mais trop lent pour le montage vidéo ou la lecture de films en HD.
