Linksys WRT54GL 4 Port Wireless G Broadband Router Linux Version 54MBPS 802.11G 802.11B
Cons:none

Pros:Fast, capable, reliable
Comment:
Best thing about the L versions is flashing custom firmware. The default firmware is suitable average users but for I'd recommend flashing the firmware to DD-WRT or Tomato. More options, better security makes this router an excellent buy.

Cons:none so far

Pros:doesn't drop  connections, easy set-up
Comment:
I bought this to replace my D-Link DI-524, which was continually dropping the connection for my wife's laptop that was being used just in the next room.So far it hasn't dropped the connection once and the reception is excellent.I would recommend this highly, and hopefully it will continue to be reliable in the years to come.

First: ALL routers are unreliable; some are just less unreliable than others and the Linksys (Cisco) WRT54GL is one of those less unreliable ones (that is, better than others.) As a computer consultant for nearly 30 years I've seen routers come and go but this particular model (especially with the 3rd-party firmware) is as solid as they come.

This router is legendary for a reason. It's the very best consumer-grade router that money can buy, even years after its first release.

I've had this router for just over 2 years now and have 5 computers in the house running through it (one wired and 4 wireless). It has been a fantastic router. Very easy to setup and excellent overall.

This is by far one of the best routers on the market. Coupled with a 3rd party firmware from DD-WRT (v23 SP2 or V24), this router becomes a powerhouse full of features. With 3rd party firmware this box can be used as a PPTP vpn gateway, SSH proxy server (great for accessing blocked web sites over SSH), and so much more. There is nothing bad that can be said about this product. Highly recommended!!!

i have had this connected to cable and 2 comps through ethernet ports for the last 6 years with no problems. every now and then i connect another computer or 2 when my brothers need work on thier comps. the wireless portion for my laptop also still works fine. for the durability of its connections i give this 10 out of 10. the price however has gone up $10 or so but its still worth it.

Bought two of these routers to replace units that were difficult to connect to at my retail shops (one US Robotics and one Netgear). Apart from being able to connect quickly and reliably, I have noticed that Netflix movies now play instantly on my DSL line where it used to take 30 minutes or more to start before. I'm very pleased with the Linksys routers. Have not yet installed DD-WRT, but that is a distinct future possibility.

Stock firmware is junk. Ran for a month and then started dropping wired connections. Installed DD-WRT, and everything's good. If you don't plan on using 3rd party firmware, don't buy this.

If you're not a (Linux) power user there's little point in enduring the cost of this version over the standard ''G'' model. I am confused by the reviews from those that bought this as a ''base router'' because the ''G'' is faster. However, if you're like me, you bought it for the modded firmware and the features that come along with it. I've added an SD slot to mine, with a 1GB SD card supporting web and ftp servers in a DMZ, and also run the VoIP mods. Performance for me has been awesome! It's been 6 months in service with no issues thus far. This router is the bomb - if for no other reason than the ability to bump the radio power! I get far better signal in the top portion of my house than I ever did with my prior D-Link. For info, see Google, and start here: http://www.wrtrouters.com/router/wrt54gl/ If there's a fault to find with this router it may be that it can do _too much_

Great product if set up right. I gave it a 5 all around but read my review first. Setting up - don't use the CD. Use this link from their website if you have Limited or no connectivity issue: http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=49410&query.id=126024#M49410 Also search for : :how to secure your network'' on Linksys.com Highly suggest using the long link I posted. Otherwise... fast delivery and I feel safe with it.

I got this router setup with wpa in around 5 minutes... and I'm no networking genius. If the CD doesn't work well, just use the web based setup at http://192.168.1.1 The problem with this guy is that it frequently (unreasonably frequently) drops your connection. I'm sitting 5 feet from it and it still drops anytime I download a big file or my connection gets busy in general. Maybe this won't happen with the open source firmware but the point is out-of-the-box it didn't get the job done.

Running the http://www.thibor.co.uk/ firmware. This thing is solid. We had previously bought a much more expensive Linksys WRV54G router which has been nothing but a disappointment. I did a lot of research and everything good pointed at this WRT54GL linux based router. The v1.1 of this router (latest version) uses this firmware: http://www.thibor.co.uk/files/firmware/Hyperwrt_G_Thibor15c.zip Enjoy!

This is the best router on the market today not only supports Linux but windows as well. I run 8 computers in my house 3 computers for work and the rest for the family no one has to share and everyone gets connected with 100mb/s for wired and 54mb/s wireless and no issues. Ive updated the firmware to the latest and so far im very happy.

I've personally had and installed for others about 30 routers, mostly of different makes and models. I was starting to think that routers must be flawed by design, as none ever lasted for longer than about 6 months. Finally I spent about 4 hours online doing some serious research into the issue. I ended up buying a WRT54GS v4 for a small business I work for, and I tried running it initially with the default Linksys firmware. I had decent uptime with it out of the box, but I was missing some of the more advanced features I was hoping to see. After installing a few different Linux firmwares I've never looked back. I bought this model (WRT54GL) for my home about a year ago, since it's the successor of the original WRT54G which no longer supports the Linux firmware. We have a busy network here, always running torrents as well as RDP, FTP and HTTP services on 6 computers / router NEVER fails. Check wrtRouters(dot)com for firmware, I use ''Thibor's HyperWRT'' and am quite happ

Unlike the v5.0 WRT54G (which has less memory and run vxworks) this WRT54GL run Linksys's older, but superior linux based firware, like the older 54Gs before v5.0. This router runs OpenWRT RC5 perfectly and can be expanded with many open source accessories and tools. Thank you Linksys and TigerDirect for continuing to provide us Linux users with an affordable, superior products!
