Undoubtedly a noticeable distinction. I am super happy with the obtain. None so far. Why havent you bought this but?

Able to assistance DD-WRT, fantastic price. Can not set static IP addresses in default firmware, not backwards compatible with older versions of WPA installed on wireless devices, definitely did not function with XBox360 or Wii. Tech help was a joke. remain away. devote the cash and get some thing better. There is a cause Linksys got bought out.

Works like a magic with DD-WRT v24-sp2. Maximum of stable, and tons of the attributes you. Tends to make me want to snuggle it at night I didn't get it when newegg had a sale on it... The only reason any suckers would give this less than all the eggs is they're employing stock firmware on this infant. You gotta give it the excellent stuff to get the sexiest results

Fantastic price, super simple to flash as there are only the two versions for the GL models. Not 'N', but who actually cares, 54Mbps will easily handle something you can transmit/recieve presently I have plenty of exerpience with Linksys routers and flashing them. I have accomplished over 20. That being mentioned, I have located this the easiest router to flash (save early versions of wrt54gs and wrt54g) The capabilities will almost match the very first versions of wrt54gs and blow away any version of the wrt54g. All it takes to flash the wrt54gl to complete capacity is uploading the micro or mini versions of DD-WRT 1st, then uploading the common versions. It went so well for me when I bought one particular a week ago, that I ordered two more yesterday and I might possibly order a different ten if I am requested to extend far more networks. Wonderful get

I purchased this router initially for my bosses property years ago and he has never had an issue. I purchased one for myself two 1ǘ years ago and it has been plugged in because, By no means rebooted and is still working flawlessly. I don't know why some reviews beneath state that you will need to replace the firmware to have reliable operation. This is not true. I was going to do this but because I have Never ever rebooted this router in virtually 3 years I am not going to bother. I have my PS3, XBOX 360, Ipad, Windows 7 laptop, Vista Desktop, Mac book, and Android telephone connected with no difficulties. None It's a household workplace router. I have not used it in an enterprise application.

Straightforward to set up, I don't use the CD that comes with it, with any router understanding at all, you can go in your self, make the modifications in 1Ǚ of the time running the CD takes. You get the identical level of security and comfort. None that I've identified thus far, other than the cost has gone up slightly on the 54G's and their finding harder to come across... When you have a terrific product, provide and demand I guess. I am a VAR. Of all the hardware that I've set up, repaired and worked on, by far and away - LINKSYS makes the easiest, safest and ideal routers out there. Don't waste your time or cash on the others. I have a number of that have been up and running for 4+ years now with no any issues...

Linksys WRT54GL 4 Port Wireless G Broadband Router Linux Version 54MBPS 802.11G 802.11B
Cons:Not a pretty router.

Pros:Can be flashed easily with firmware providing advanced functionality. Very, very reliable.
Comment:
I have been purchased and installed close to a dozen of the "L" version routers for friends and work and I have never had a complaint even when I left the stock firmware on. They work well, they are reliable, and when you flash them with Tomato or another stable firmware you get features and reliability which can sometimes only be found in equipment costing many times more. These routers aren't pretty, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I suspect that the only reason Linksys/cisco doesn't make a more powerful version is because it would ruin the market for their commercial routers.

Cons:Wish it had a faster processor and more memory to support the faster broadband connections :(My 50mbps connection tops out at 38mbps on this vs. other routers I've tested.

Pros:-Support for third party firmware-Stability-Reliability
Comment:
This router is legendary. Can't really comment on the stock Linksys firmware, but if you're buying this, its probably for Tomato or something else anyways. I've had Tomato on it since day 1 and the two go together like peanut butter and jelly :). Legendary performance

It is easy to flash this with dd-wrt firmware if you adhere to the directions and read the guides. This is a incredibly widespread router and I bought it just so I could play with custom linux firmware to replace my edge firewall/routing server with one thing that consumes a ton much less power Doesn't do wireless N, and there's no working hack that lets you add USB storage to this certain router that I've heard of. It works wonderful if you don't will need wireless N or you have a separate resolution on your network for wireless N.

Straightforward set up (dont know why people say its hard)I have muti connection to it. Xbox, Ps3, Iphone and two Computer.Very Strong signal.Better than my belkin that i have to reset each 3 hours. None. It is uncomplicated to install just adhere to the cd guide. For those that say its challenging to configure wireless security, u must be kidding. To me it is less complicated than installing security on belkin. I know it dosent clarify what every security setting is but it is uncomplicated to select wep or wap2. Please quit saying that its is tough to follow cd guide it is complete dont know why men and women say its not. If u want to manually enter router setup use 192ɅɅNow if u want to go beyond residence network then u can use tomatoesGreatest router on earth.

Can install DD-WRT to make it super-amazing. No hangups or problems so far. Practically packet loss anywhere in the residence. Even though it's an awesome router, it's starting to fall behind the occasions in terms of hardware. Install DD-WRT. :) I got this to replace my last router that was constantly hanging up, dropping wireless, and overheating, and so far, this router has had totally problems, plus it keeps logs of my bandwidth usage and I can watch a bandwidth monitor with DD-WRT installed.

Worked wonderful suitable out of the box. Got it installed, and every thing was configured correctly and basically, due to the straightforward-to-use UI. Cisco/Linksys have always had, and nonetheless do have, great hardware, with Good potential. The hardware is fairly a lot rock solid. I've had numerous other routers, as suggested by my a variety of ISPs in the past, and I still have 1 a WRT45G that's been around for at least 6-7 years, nonetheless running powerful. It outlasted all of the E series wireless b/g/n linksys/cisco routers, and a couple of dlink routers, by a long shot. As several people will say, these issues are pretty considerably immortal. With that said, their possible is insane... with the only downside getting that you want to use open source firmware to maximize the hardware's prospective, as... The easy UI and the firmware that generates it are Really temperamental. Cisco's firmware "updates" apparently are infamous for "bricking" the routers, creating them impossible to fix yourself, with out voiding the warranty by opening up the router and manually shorting out the flash ROM. Fundamentally, right after getting dummied by the customer support reps, who kept telling me to difficult reset and ping the router, which I had attempted a bunch of instances just before even calling support... AND being disconnected when, the rep just had to open a case for me to RMA the factor. It would be nice to see some sort of flash capability via a push button, so that if this happens, which it apparently typically does, you can just use the button and flash the ROM back to stock firmware without the require for an RMA. It would most likely save both parties' time and dollars. Under standard circumstances, no 1 would burn the flash ROM up before they upgraded the unit. This doesn't impact the rating... other thoughts was full. ONLY due to a slight problem in hooking it up, the installment went rather rapidly. As soon as I figured out I had produced a little mistake, assigned it to 192.168.1.2, disabled DHCP, and mirrored the 1st router's wireless settings, every little thing was sorted out and operating smoothly. I should have let it be, as I would still be enjoying my room's gadgets' wireless capabilities to their respective zeniths. As far as the cons... I think about the firmware a portion of the actual item itself, specially when the organization's firmware bricks their own routers, which is apparently something that happens frequently with the WRT54GLs, as per one of the reps. Hopefully I'm not regarded as as one of the people that gives bad ratings for things unrelated to the item itself.Essentially, get this router, if you are only looking for wireless b and/or g, and you only call for base ten럼 networking... and unless you plan on voiding the warranty by employing open source firmware, just set the factor up and leave it be.

I wouldn't know. The setup wizard can only be read on PCs, not on Macs. Neither Newegg or Linksys tech support had been of any assist. They said I could use a PC to set it up, but I still wouldn't be able to alter settings, as I don't own a PC. Newegg said that they simpy display the facts supplied by the manufacturer. There was NO mention on the internet site of the fact that support was not available for MacIntosh OS. How could I be the initial individual to encounter this challenge?

Low cost, dependable, Linux! With custom firmware (I prefer tomato) this router will run for months and possibly years with no a reboot as long as you have it connected to a backup battery for times when the power may flicker. Otherwise ANY router will lock up in a brownout. Compatible with ANY operating system that adheres to GLOBAL NETWORKING STANDARDS. Is there an OS that doesn't adhere? just wanted to debunk that MYTH floating around in some reviews. This is the finest household-grade wireless G router you can get AS Long AS YOU USE CUSTOM FIRMWARE. not only this but with the custom firmware it is a home-grade router with enterprise characteristics.I have set numerous of these up with Tomato and just about every one has worked with awesome outcomes. People acquire this thinking they can use the stock firmware and get good results. WRONG! upgrading firmware to a custom one could be intimidating to some.DO NOT Get UNLESS YOU Program ON Making use of CUSTOM FIRMWARE AND HAVE Fundamental Knowledge OF HOW NETWORKS FUNCTION! Okay folks here is the dealio. DO NOT get this router with no planning to put tomato or DD-WRT on it. Those of you requiring reboots when employing the stock firmware, this is Typical for this device. Put the custom firmware on it and it will be the most dependable wifi router you have possibly ever noticed. For those of you that could not get it operating.. If you put full bars for tech knowledge, you are fooling your self. This router, as with just about every other 1 on the planet makes use of networking STANDARDS that Just about every operating technique uses. Those of you claiming it is not compatible with blahblah operating technique will need to go learn how networking works. You DO NOT require a cd-rom and USB connection to set this factor up. Anybody that makes use of setup disk with residence based routers in all probability have no clue what they are doing. Anyone that gave low eggs for this product is clearly not tech saavy sufficient to use it for its purpose and should probably attempt to uncover something far more reliable in its stock format.
