Trimmed of excess size. Solid, aluminum building. Cooling fan is always a plus. Hot swap-capacity. Almost everything included except a backup program. My WD 320 gig Sata HD fit perfectly. No rattles, no shifting, no mounting screws and no mounting troubles. I have worked with numerous other brands of enclosures in the past. Sabrent has engineered the very best 1 so far. EZ PnP with Win XP Pro. Instructions had been written in english by an individual who does not speak it. Included phillips screwdriver was 1 size too tiny for the screwheads. The only purpose I did not purchase this enclosure from Newegg was that it was(and is, as of 13 Aug 2009) out of stock. I plan to obtain 1 much more(hopefully from Newegg) and I reccomend it to anybody who wants high excellent, low price tag and compact size in their external HD enclosure.

Operates simply with SATA drive through USB. Drive was cool to touch when removed immediately after 200GB transfer. Nice and simple power switch. Fan runs as lengthy as it's plugged in so drive will be cooled back to standard temperature, even soon after turning the power switch off (easy to unplug if you want the enclosure completely off).Relatively quiet. Feels relatively sturdy. Can't use it effortlessly for my principal intended purpose for obtain: a handful of PATA drives. Connectors and every thing work fine for each kinds but the case is either a couple of mm as well smaller or the drive a handful of mm to extended to slide it in right. The power plug for IDE drives sticks out just adequate to catch the internal board of the enclosure. It takes place on the majority of my drives but not all. Placing 3 mm of more tolerance would have created the enclosure significantly simpler to use (getting drive in and out on SATA is a small tight but not a challenge). My workaround: place the stand suitable-side up at the bottom, set the drive upside on that (for airflow around the drive), and connect the enclosure upside down on best of that (upside down by labels near the cables, fan will be on best). It's not exactly fairly but it must be good sufficient for obtaining stuff off it and onto other drives.I could be doing it incorrect although. It could have had more than 3 sentences in the manual for installation, like photographs. USB cable is a bit brief. Haven't even opened eSATA cable so no thoughts on it's length/performance.Instructions are not clear for newbies: also considerably time explaining windows safely get rid of hardware/driver installation than which side to take off, how to mount the drive (remove side panels to reveal holes), what setting jumpers ought to be on for IDE, etc. Possessing an native english speaker would have helped: "...run program applicarion and play vidos straight ftom disk." "there a warning message showed that if u whop it with out stopping it"Drive doesn't spin down immediately after unmounting/unplugging. Don't know if that's usual for enclosures or not. Power switch will turn it off though.Being aware of what I know now: for SATA, I would purchase it again, for PATA, I would uncover a diverse one particular.

1) It functions; two) Quiet fans create a quiet enclosure; 3) Fans make it just soooo cool; 4) Solid styling; 5) It's a Sabrent; 6) eSATA punches by means of with up to 3GB burst rates; 7) Nicely, there's USB if your board is behind the instances. Let me know if you find any that weren't self-inflicted (read the one particular, two, and 3-star reviews to see how wannabe electron-heads blame the item for their personal inexperience). My manufacturing corporation recommends Sabrent because of its low failure rate - but also for its aesthetic pleasure and distinct styling. We utilized to use MassCool, but its plain-jane styling made us appear like just yet another manufacturer, whereas the Sabrent label puts more cash into the design area. And speaking of money - check out the value of this WITH eSATA interfacing - and FANS!!! Style - environmental manage - eSATA interfacing suggests the hunt for the best enclosure ends here.

Construction supplies are good, even so the factory installation of the fan causes it to bind and lastly burn up. Fan rubs on its housing, causing it to burn up. If ya buy it, make positive the fan is turning.

Although I did not acquire this from Newegg, I've owned it for over a year. Solid construction. Ive used both 1TB and 2TB SATA drives in it. Low fan noise. The lights are not also vivid, which is especially nice, because its in the living area exactly where I'm making use of this to stream movies to a WD Live Tv Plus. Would totally purchase this once again but from Newegg of course! Doesn't make coffee. The drives are a bit snug, but they fit securely in the enclosure and there is no space fro movement at all once every thing is put together. There are about 10 screws you have to take out just to install a drive, which tends to make installation a tad tedious. I have not utilized the esata function since it attached to a WD Live Television Plus.

Power provide. Has a fan. Everything. eSATA port seems non-normal. Millions of screws to take it apart and place a drive into it. Cheap internal parts. Does not perform with eSATA. Did not function on a number of computers by means of eSATA. Tried USB and it functions fine. This point is such a discomfort to take apart and install. I wish I did my study and bought a different brand. This does not come with a bracket or eSata cable. Total joke. For this similar value you can get yet another enclosure with an eSATA to SATA bracket and eSATA to eSATA cable.I originally purchased it for the fan and eSATA. Truly wish I did my analysis first.Went by means of two of these. The initially one particular's internal sata port broke off throughout installation! Just pushed the cable in and *pop* off it came.Don't waste your funds.

Box arrived with broken fan blade but Sabrent assistance mailed replacement quickly. Fan reasonably quiet. Works fine making use of either eSATA or USB with Windows 7 64-bit. Cover screw holes not aligned immediately after disassembly, require to squeeze and flex case to realign. Space is tight, but manageable. Fan blades are fragile. While playing with the fan with broken blade powered up, I hit a thing and was surprised at how quickly a different blade broke, so be careful about the fan. The internals are tightly packed when a hard drive is installed and I was curious as to how efficient the cooling would be, so I decided to experiment with a Seagate 1.5TB 7200 RPM SATA drive which I know runs hot. Operating this drive in a StarTech dock in open 73F air (no fan) had the drive heat to 115F according to the drive’s sensor. Running it connected to the Sabrent with the fan blowing on it from the finish and over the top and bottom (but not in the assembled enclosure) heated the drive to only 90F. When placed Inside the assembled enclosure the temperature reached 102F, but with the fan unplugged in the assembled enclosure the temperature reached 117F. No question about the fan becoming effective but if the case had been created for greater airflow I'd expect that even lower temperatures could be reached.

It is affordable. It is quiet whilst operating. It does what it says it will do...connect your external difficult drive to your personal computer. As others have said it is a pretty tight fit. I put an old WD250 gigabyte SATA challenging drive in it and it fit with no room to spare. The internal SATA cable utilized to connect the drive to the enclosure circuit board has correct angles at each ends so the cable has to be twistewd to permit a connection at bot ends. I actually can't say I had trouble connecting the drive but I had had knowledge with an Antec case so it was uncomplicated for me to figure factors out. I have the drive connected to my computer by way of eSATA connection and with this setup no LED lights are lighting up. If your tough drive isn't recognized by your operating program and you have to load drivers that come on a mini cd disc you will have problems because the disc is not auto run so you will have to discover the disc and use the windows XP add hardware utility to load your drivers. If you are not incredibly mechanically inclined you could do greater to spent 20 dollars a lot more and obtain an Antec enclosure. The directions are effortless to follow and the style is substantially much more of a comfy fit for numerous types of challenging drives

Sturdy construction, quiet fan, functional external form factor, very good looks. Quite tight fit. Drives can vary in length as significantly as a half inch and those longer drives basically just do not fit. I finally worked one into the case after disassembling the circuit board and wedging it in, but there is zero space (drive presses tight against the circuit board). This also can't aid but affect airflow.Wires run down the side of the drive to reach the front activity LED and these wires have been glued tight over the drive screw grooves. There is zero slack in the wires as effectively, so even after prying the glue off I had to wedge the screws under the wires to secure the drive. The cheater cord for the energy supply does not fit securely into the supply; It is incredibly loose. I'll attempt putting a meter on it later, but I'm pretty certain it's so loose the ground is not even contacting. The cord is fine (checked it out in other devices), it's the power supply that has been sloppily constructed. The case really requirements to be redesigned a 1ǘ" longer. Even with a "short" drive there is barely sufficient room to wedge the connectors in. It's less difficult with SATA drives (connectors, specifically the power connector, take up less space), but nonetheless needlessly tight. It's clear a person engineered this based on theoretical drive dimensions without ever really attempting to fit a drive into it.I'm giving it two stars. It's a real shame: A 1ǘ" longer and a superior power supply plug would have effortlessly gotten 5 stars from me.

Numerous interfaces (USB & eSATA, IDE & SATA).Low noise, has cooling, snug fit1 of the much better-looking, lower priced enclosures The side panel does not screw all the way down, leaving a slight gap. Stripped the threads to a screw attempting to get it down. (Doesn't appear to influence overall performance) Good get.

Simple to use, easy to switch. I had a desktop with two tough drives, 1 IDE drive, and 1 SATA. I initial installed the IDE drive into the enclosure and transferred all my files to my laptop. Then I installed the SATA drive, where it now maintains a permanent residency. Immediately after getting read some critiques for this, I was expecting a chinese puzzle box. Nothing could have been further from the truth. You pull out 4 screws and eliminate the cover, install the connectors, slide the drive in, and put the cover back on with the 4 screws. Total time: much less than two minutes. um...um...Yeah I got nothing.

Quickly, Quiet, looks nice(in my opinion), light (case). Can be applied with Sata or IDE hard drives. USB two. or eSata. Has a cooling fan that keeps the fan cool even soon after hours of use or getting on. Can be applied with old IDE hard drives and later be upgraded to Sata hdds. Superior for backing up files or as additional storage or to transfer files from laptop or computer to pc. You can switch tough drives and it wont damage or do anything to the enclosure. Comes with a screw driver. Not really detailed directions so not for people today that aren't great with technical stuff. Case can be tilted from side to side(not a lot of a issue tho). Doesnt have indication leds or mine just doest function.....just has the 2 front blue leds that are on all the time(bright if u appear straight at them only tho). All aluminum? i feel its not but im not positive but im sure most of it is. Not incredibly uncomplicated to add or replace challenging drive(its not that poor tho). Cables are fairly brief about two some thing feet for USB cable and eSata cable, power cord about 4-5ft total. Just gonna clarify the instructions on adding a difficult drive.1. eliminate the cover that doesnt have the fan on it(if the screws are loose its okƜ. eliminate the side panels by removing the screws of the back(one for each and every side) just pull back then up/out.3. dont shed the screws4. connect the hard drive to the cables then the ports or vise versa. 5. put the tough drive in6. screw it with the screws in a small bag that came in the box that u could be questioning what they had been for. the sides that u took off reveal the holes where u screw it in.7. close the box back by putting on the side panels initially then the cover. Then all you have to do is connect the energy and either eSata or USB cable to ur laptop or computer(if u have windows xp or newer)(if older install drivers very first that come in the mini cd).If you dont believe me buy one and locate out.

Bought one a few months ago. Arrived the same day I broke my foot. 5 weeks later I finally could get around to try it. Opened the case and a fan blade fell out. The fan was only attached in one corner so as soon as I applier power, the fan broke off another blade. The 30 return time was expired and tough luck to me per the sales person I spoke with. It may be a great piece of hardware, if it worked or could have been returned. It was a waste of money for me.

The boot sector on my hard drive went out so I installed a new hard drive and kept the old one. I purchased this enclosure and connected my old hard drive. When I plugged it in and turned it on it came up as drive J and there was all of my information ready to use again. What a relief!

Heavy!
Comment:
Good enclosure! I purchased it for the purpose of freeing up hard drive space on my netbook and it serves that purpose perfectly. The fan keeps the drive very cool and I like the ability to use both IDE and SATA drives, which is why I purchased this particular enclosure. I could do without the LED light, mostly because I keep my room dark and it lights the place up like the Fourth of July, but I wouldn't call it a con. The steel also makes it very heavy, but that makes me feel like my data is secure :D

Nice item. The cables in the unit are a little awkard in relation to the drive. Tight fit after connecting the cables. The fan touches the drive so I hear the tic-tic-tic noise.

This enclosure fit my needs exactly. This enclosure is built well and it shows both when handling it and just looking at it. I gave it a 4 in features because it is a VERY tight fit. I ended up having to fold the wires inside over on top themselves to get it to close. My only worry there is how that will effect the life of the cables. I had hoped to use this as a swappable enclosure but because of how tight everything goes in, I have instead settled on this being a permanent enclosure. It has a blue led light on it to let you know its up and running, which really helps me because I always forget to turn off peripherals. I currently use Vista 64 and didn't have to configure anything. Just plugged it all together and started making backups. Compared to a few very flimsy enclosures I've owned I would definitely recommend this one.

Great enclosure - fit my 1.5TB drive snugly. Never heats up with my 5400RPM drive... in fact, never even gets warm to the touch. Looks cool, but I would do without the LEDs.
