Hardware Works But
Comment:
I would like to give a very positive thumbs up on this piece of hardware. It did the job of helping me to salvage data from two SATA drives. However, the directions included read like something from another planet. They could have saved the paper. I am still not clear what the term

Needs some improvement
Comment:
I got it in a reasonable time. The case is nice looking and the top and bottom are metal. It has a built in fan but no feet to hold the drive up off a flat surface so the fan sits directly on your desktop allowing zero air flow, unless you use the side stand that comes with the drive. The fan started to make noise the second day I had it. It is and extremely tight fit getting a drive in the enclosure. The instructions are totally useless, all they do is talk about USB mounting and drivers. The activity light is so dim as to be almost completely unnoticeable. I would buy a different brand and compare before purchasing this brand again.

Great Deal and Value
Comment:
I purchased this Sabent enclosure for portability when we travel for use in storing pictures but find myself using it at home as well. It was easy to assemble a very tight fit so take your time. The fan is Great but made some noise when I first started it but this went away after about 2-3 minutes. The profile is small so takes up little space on my desk. I will be using it with both my Home and laptop computers. The instructions are poorly written but anyone with a little mechanical know how can assemble. I had it up and working in about 10-15 minutes and it works flawlessly.

great enclosure
Comment:
I needed an easy way to transfer files from two IDE desktop hdd's as well as an enclosure for my SATA drive. This worked wonderfully. And now with a portable HDD, I can easily transfer large files via USB. It was easy to put together, came with all required cables, and works flawlessly.

Fan dead
Comment:
This unit is only four month's old and the fan has started humming. When it hums, the fan isn't running. I've contacted Sabrent and they're sending a new fan, which I'll need to install. I wonder how long this fan will last.

Very good
Comment:
Nice external case. Instructions are useless. One section heading reads; Whoppng the product ptoperly. Spell check anyone? But it's pretty straightforward to setup. Remove the top (non-fan side) cover, the two side panels and drop in a drive. It's a very tight fit. I had to unscrew the circuit board so that the drive would clear the case edge. Recognized by Windows Server 2003 without a hitch. Comes with stand, power supply, driver disk, a crappy screwdriver and cables.

What a life saver!
Comment:
I couldn't be happier with this product. I was bummed when I found out I wasn't able to add my old harddrive to my new computer system. It had so much data I still needed to use. I came across this Sabrent Hard Drive Enclosure and it was an answer to my prayers. It's easy to use and worked great. The only negative comment would be that who ever wrote the instruction booklet must have been really high when they wrote it.

Blew-out on power drop
Comment:
Assembly no problem; casework distinguished; manual a joke. Had running on new system while UPS charging; car hit pole in neighborhood and power dropped. Heard sounds like a small animal dieing and the lights went out never to return. Don't know status of drive yet, but enclosure dead. Moral: run on UPS as it appears unable to handle power drop gracefully.

No real complaints
Comment:
The enclosed manual is poorly written so I wouldn't bother referring to it. But if you have ever worked in side your PC before you should be able to readily figure out things on your own. You have a total of ten screws to remove - four fromthe top panel, four from the bottom panel and two from the rear panel (where all the connectors reside). Don't bother using the enclosed screwdriver because you'll just end of stripping the screws. Instead, use a properly sized one and you'll be fine. I chose to stick with the IDE configuration for the enclosure but changing over to SATA just means changing over to enclosed the power and data cables for this setup. Drive insertion is very tight. Works fine with my WIndows 7 64-bit OS.

have tried ide and sata drives in it so far. all have worked. even a 1.5tb seagate. only minor complaint is there is not much room for installing some drives. cables are short and hard to connect. if you are carefull its ok. as others said, some drives are a tight fit in the case.. no extra room. be carefull changing the drives. i would buy another. good features (ide, sata, esata).

Worked for me
Comment:
Worked for me. They supply more than enough leads and attachments for a variety of HDs. I selected the ones for my SATA drive, plugged them in and away it went through the USB port as required. Highly recommended by me. Eric

Ok, Could be better
Comment:
Yes it does work. Throw out the instructions. BUT if you want to make it better do this. 1. throw out the instructions. 2. disassemble it. 3. take a soldering iron and reverse the wires to the fan (it blows away from the hard drive rather than towards it). By reversing the wires it will blow towards the hard drive thus cooling it. 4. while it is disassembled drill numerous holes in the side wall of the fan casing so air will actualy flow. The fan is so tight against the hard drive there is no room for air to flow to really cool the hard drive. Or replace the fan with a smaller one so air will flow. All in all this enclosure does have sufficient ventilation holes on all sides to prevent overheating. The fan is a bonus if you are really concerned about heat.

good value
Comment:
Cheapest enclosure I could find with a fan and eSATA. The instructions are the worst I've ever gotten with anything, and the it's a tight fit inside, but other than that no complaints.

I had an external drive from a different manufacturer that died. Testing the hard drive proved it to be working so I bought this case. The hard drive fit inside just fine. Close but not tight. And it works great.

Great value
Comment:
As some of the other reviews mention, this is a snug fit so don't assume you'll have a lot of room to move putting the hard drive in or working with it while its in there. Also don't forget to remove any extra cords you won't need to hook up your hard drive, this will give you slightly more room. It was easy to set up and works great.

Don't waste your money
Comment:
Doesn't show up in device manager, won't show up at all on w7, shows up in vista as a mass storage controller and won't load any HD, shows up in XP as a USB mass storage device, none of the 3 comps i had were able to load a HD off this enclosure(used 3 separate HDs). Poor design, screwdriver will strip your screws though i knew that out of the box, don't use it, manual is useless. Apparently ''plug-and-play'' means wasting countless hours trying to get it to show up as a drive letter but to no avail. Customer service sucked, they charged me twice for this piece of junk. Called customer service, they don't care about your problems and only want to take your money.

great cheap enclosure
Comment:
I was looking for a cheap hard drive case that had usb and esata. Had it set up in minutes great drive for only 30 bucks. Didn't have any problems installing, just make sure to remove both panels before you put your drive in. Connected the sata and sata power cables and then to the drive and it slid right in. Just pushed The pata connector down on top and the side panel snugged down all the way. Power and activity lights work, converted my 500 gig to FAT32 so now its a media drive. if you have an extra 3.5 laying around this is a great drive for cheap, the fan is not overly loud, great cheap enclosure. would buy again. The manual it comes with is obviously converted from another language, poorly. Just use common sense, its just a few screws.
