Comment:
For 10 bucks, you cant go wrong. Dosen't have any of those flashly lights and all that gimmicky stuff. Small gripe - my hard drive isn't very secure inside it (it stays in it, but it does wobble a tiny bit, and yes, I put the screws in). Despite what one review says below, there IS an activity light; when the light is green, it's idle, when it's red, it's working. If your not transporting your hard drive around everywhere, this is defantely for you. If you are mobile alot, get something else, because the wobblyness could potentially damage your hard drive in the long run.

The installation is simple and strait forward. The light indicates power (green) and flashes red when there is drive activity. All in all this is an exelent product. Powers up fine without the second USB connection. However the drive does not fit securly in the enclosure, it wobbles a little but not enough to worrie about.

I bought two of these enclosures one Black and one silver, one for myself and one as a gift both are working very well. I have used mine with 5 machines one was a AMD K6-350 Mh with Windows 98SE the second was a P2 350 Mh with Windows ME third was a P3 1000 Gh with Window XP all with USB 1.1 Without haveing to use the second USB connector the Forth was a P4 3.06 Gh with Windows XP, USB 2.0 on this machine I had to use the second cable the fifth was my test machine an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor running Widows Vista USB 2.0. I am useing a Hitachi 20 Gb HD in it and I must say the this is one of the best buys I have ever made. As for the second enclosure I bought as a gift foe my nefew has made him very happy. He is useing it for school on a Dell Celerion 667Mh Laptop and has a 40 Gb Seagate HD. He has told me that it is great because he take hid data with him to use it on other PCs and doesn't have to take his laptop with him all the time and he also has a back up.

The box is worth for the price at C$16.09 include tax. I put my old 6GB HDD in, easy to assemble, it's recognized by my PII/W2K desktop and Centrino/XP laptop with no problem, no need to use the second connector for more power. Transfer rate is acceptable. I've check lot info to decide buy which one, seems this one is good, should be same for the silver model. Now looking for a straight cable since the Y cable is not needed (my experience).

I haven't used this much yet, but it is a well made product and installation was easy. The drive has run off every USB i've plugged it into so far without need to use the second plug which was provided. Time will tell..

No problems at all. This enclosure has served me well in making use of my old laptop hard drive. The installation was easy, and they even include a small screwdriver for the enclosure's small screws. The split USB cable is great since it makes the drive very portable by removing the need for an external power supply. My only complaint concerns how the drive is mounted. There are no screws to mount the drive to the case. The drive is supported only by the IDE pins. It fits tightly enough that I doubt there will be issues, but it could have been designed better.

I have had no problems from Sabernets 2.5 HD enclosure. It has worked great from day one. Easy to install HD's and just plug it in and the computer recognizes it right away. Thanks for a great product.

The Sabrent HD enclosure was a piece of cake to install - just plugged in to the USB and my notebook and desktop recognized immediately. It worked perfectly. The second USB plug [just for power if required] was not needed. Great price. Great product.

Works Great for the old laptop hard drives lying around. I like it because the unit fits your shirt pocket. Some who use this for a laptop may want to invest in a powered USB port to accomodate the dual cable. Easy to use in XP. Case is a little tight on some of the drives but this keeps the size down.

I just received my Sabrent HD enclosure. It was a piece of cake to install, my notebook recognized it as soon a I plugged it in to the USB port and it has worked perfectly. Great price. Great product. Exceptional service from Tiger Direct.

I just received my new Sabrent Hard Drive Enclosure. It works just fine. No Problems accept one. My 2.5'' drive does not fit into the Aluminum case. I guess I'll be doing some modifications to make one for it. It would have been nice if the dimensions were listed. Off to radio shack.

This is the best backup device I have found. Easy to use, small an inexpensive. This is much better than the Hassle of CD and DVD disks.

I initially purchased the Vantec NexStar 2.5'' USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. It never really worked right and then I got fed up with the fact that I would have to keep disconnecting and connecting the cable 4 or 5 times in a row before any PC would recognize the drive. That all changed when I bought this one. Now PCs even recognize the type of hard drive that is in the enclosure (WIN XP). I have never had ANY problems with this (except that it is very slippery and is can easily fly out of your hand) since I bought it. I just bought the 3.5'' version of this and I an anxious to see how it works. This unit is probably your best bet and for the $$ you can't go wrong.

Great product, used several of these Sabrent 2.5'' enclosures without a problem. I really like the USB Y-cord, because other enclosures use two separate cords (one for data transfer and one for extra power) and just adds to my desk clutter. Also I found out that the enclusure will work just fine when plugging in one of the two USB ends to my computer, but its recommended to plug both in. This is a very good product, and suits my needs well. All of my 2.5'' Dell/IBM laptop harddrives fit in the enclosure perfectly. You also don't have to install the drive in the enclosure to work with it, you can just plug in the hard drive pin-to-USB converter part.

Simple, but dependable. Some other brands of these 'boxes' have unreliable power supplies, which results in erratic and poor performance. This one works, so I bought another.

I was initially pleased, but discovered some issues: - The supplied Y-cable is a little too short for a laptop - I had to use a small extension and eventually had to buy a small powered hub (see next point). - Even when using the Y-cable to supply more power, the drive would be ''dropped'' under XP. This occurred on both a Dell laptop and a desktop. - The back endcap's tabs were not enough to secure it to the case: I could foresee eventually needing to find screws to fix it. I eventually replaced this enclosure with an Ultra product: $5 extra, and a little larger but it doesn't ''drop'' with the same drive due to low power and it comes with an extra USB pass-through cable to supply extra power.

Assembly was quick and simple. Installation was automatic. Enough power was provided with only one USB connector. A great way to re-use an old laptop hard drive.

We have two of these, and they worked perfectly right out of the box. The two 12gig drives we pulled from old compaq laptops were recognized instantly, without any drivers, by winXP. We use them to transfer user data when new PCs are installed at remote sites that don't have good network bandwidth. Go for it, they're cheap and effective.
