Affordable Worked for a few months and then one particular day my 500gb WD Caviar black drive was not being recognized. I then began to acquire disk reformat prompts. Now the HD will not be recognized using a SATA connection or other USB enclosures; am I supposed to reformat the drive and then perform a recovery? Is this docking station not intended for heavy use? Absolutely terrible product. This docking station will no longer recognize other challenging drives now.Useless and destroyed 100gb of my information. I cannot express enough how horrible my knowledge has been with this docking station. Do not buy. Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, We at Thermaltake apologize for the inconvenience this may possibly have triggered you. Make contact with ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com for warranty instruction. Ideal regards,

Comment:
It's incredibly convenient to insert a drive without working with any tools, accepts two.5" and 3.5" drives, performs as anticipated and is reasonably well-built It looks ugly sitting beside my iMac, even with out a drive sticking out of the top I have no regrets about buying this. I bought it in order to transfer the contents of my iMac's drive to a new drive that I lately installed in the personal computer. It worked flawlessly and was quite quickly, for USB two.. I'd have preferred a firewire connection but firewire appears to be dying out, however. Ongoing, I plan to use this to create Time Machine backups of my Mac and shop the drives offsite. Internal drives are really a bit more affordable than external drives.

It was excellent the initial couple occasions. Hassle-free as any docking station would be. Immediately after a couple months when I pulled it to use it once more it was dead. Lazy me didn't get on and try to RMA or speak to manufacturer. Now I have to buy an additional.

allows me the freedom to have 1 external drive with endless disks. plugged it in and had some probs at first due to the fact 'disk wasn't initialized'. got a little upset until i realized that you correct click on the unpartitioned drive's icon on the left. that's how you initialize. then i did a swift format. samsung 1.5TB F2 drive ready in perhaps two minutes. right away beginning transferring data onto it. the unit itself feels fairly sturdy and effectively built. it came with pretty vague directions (which is why it took me a handful of minutes to remember the intialize point) but overall no prob. it CAME with a USB cord in a globe exactly where cords are merely expected but not provided. USB 2. undoubtedly craaaaaaaawls along. if you want some speed then this isn't for you. this factor does leave the HDD exposed and a bit vulnerable in terms of touching it. don't bump your desk. preserve kids and pets away. don't place a drink near it. the ac power is a large brick thing so yay, an additional shuffle of the surge protector. AC cord is i'd say 6 feet, USB cord is about 3 feet. not a lot of alternatives for placement since of brief cords. due to the fact the leading has the flap door for the 3.five drives and nothing more than where the 2.5 drives would go the sata connectors in the unit are exposed. not excellent for dust. when not in use make sure it's covered in some way or put it in a drawer. i had more than a TB of data to backup (music, video files). for 'pure' backup yes there are CD/DVD/BDR. the first two are just too small for something in the TB range. i would have to burn more than a hundred DVDs. i truly considered BDR but the truth is that they are just as well high-priced. the media is nevertheless too significantly. the expense of a 50 spindle of BDR's is at least ๖. i got a challenging 1.five HDD for ๠. this to me is a no brainer and i'm prepared to take the 'risk'. i don't count on to use this that frequently, perhaps when a month or just about every 2 months depending on how substantially i have for backup. when it's full i can just get a different. and an additional and another. this is such a excellent notion. as far as heat i didn't consider the drive got hot at all. it was warm of course but not as if it would burn me. i did give it a couple of breathers to cool off but because it isn't housed in something it has lots of breathing area anyway. i just did it mainly because i was a little paranoid i guess. wonderful purchase - get it.

Handy, uncomplicated to use, somewhat better than a drive sitting on the desk. USB two. A lot slower than sata when most newer motherboards have an esata plug and you can purchase a cable to go from esata to sata from newegg. Also, but an external sata energy adapter for about the exact same cash and get sata II speeds for the identical money! why settle for anything so slow when you can acquire an esata to sata cable and external energy provide for a sata drive for about the identical cash. All the motherboards I've purchased in the last 4 years have an esata on the back and even on my older ones I run a sata cable from the interior and out the back. Can run a sata power cable out the back also...Either way, its much faster. Only need to have an external HHD enclosure if it's a IDE drive. SATA is the only way to go if you're transfering big amounts of data and don't want to have to let it sit overnight even though it copies 500Gb.

With a uncomplicated USB connection, this device accepts 2.five" and three.5" drives with ease. Drives can be hot swapped but the device also has a power switch so you can just turn it off, up plug it and move it to yet another machine with the drive still plugged in. In Windows XP I have to use Disk Manager to activate the drive every single time I connect it. This device works wonderful and is a easy way to make backups to external SATA drives.

- Does what it says- Cool blue light None so far This enclosure reminds me my Super Nintendo! You essentially just stick your tough drive in vertically (like a Super NES cartridge). You turn it on with a click of a button and your desktop/laptop need to be able to read it proper away. Somehow, my enclosure hasn't collected substantially dust (if any) even even though it has been sitting beneath my desk for over a year. I seldom turn the docking station off and nevertheless haven't knowledgeable any troubles.

Worked like a champ with Windows 7 notebookSimple to use - connect by way of USB cable, plug it in, insert drive, hit the power button & you're set!Strong construction, compact size.Contains USB cable & AC adapter - prepared to go out of box. None Bought when desktop motherboard died. Necessary to access information on the difficult drive from new laptop. Worth additional than the price tag paid to have access to information (which had not been recently backed up), plus now have drive for external backup (which I promise tol do!)

Looks great and was nicely packaged. Doesn't work. There appears to be an concern with the docking station telling the HD to shutdown early. Attempted to make this perform on many OS's - XP, Vista 32, Win 7 64 - and the results were the similar on all - Driver load, says HD demands formated and then the HD shuts down as if energy is cut to it which won't let the format to total. Tried six various SATA HDs with the same results. RMA'd and returned for a refund. Not rolling the dice on this item once more.

Like it, enjoy it, enjoy it! The least expensive external storage about, flexible, portable... Has worked as advertised each and every single time. Not as rapid transferring as the ESATA model I have. I have a Rosewill too, which I've had to confine to only use with particular drives. My Hitachi drive wasn't recognized every single time and was a hassle. So I'd personally steer clear of individuals, the Thermaltakes are the way to go.

Functions as described None However I am a Pc tech and occasionally have to recover data from failed tricky drives. I have utilized this device to transfer information from tough drive to a new computer ideal there in the buyers property. I transferred 30 GB in about 12-15 minutes proper in a customers property. This thing functions great for me. Packaged properly and sent in a timely manner. Very same wonderful Newegg service as usually.

Tends to make it effortless to transfer information to a SATA drive. Easy to line up and insert drive into unit. Recognized proper away by Win7.Appears well built and looks very stylish. Don't- Repeat -Don't expect to slap a drive in and back up your whole drive! Incredibly slow transfers compared to copying data between two internal drives. Following only a few min of copying your drive will get extremely hot! The ONLY way to go is to copy massive blocks of data 1st by essentially installing your HD and copying internally, then employing this unit with back up software to do incremental back ups. Like stated... Copy the BULK of your information internally then use this unit for incremental back ups. If you require to back up 300gb with this you'll be able fry bacon and eggs on your HD right after 15min.Aslo, energy and information wires a nuisance..

Low cost. Does specifically what's advertised to do. Wonderful for backing and accessing laptop/standard tough drives. Employed on Ubuntu + Windows XP/Vistaǝ and it operates just fine. Unformatted drives may not be mounted to folder on Ubuntu but you can nevertheless access/format them utilizing gparted tool. Eject mechanism calls for as well considerably force. Complete method of ejecting seems stupid when you can just pull it out simply by hand. With even the slightest quantity of pressure, you can push the light on the prime into the chasis. I did, but it doesn't break anything at all. It just weird.USB 2. is quickly, but when you're transferring a big music collection, it's not rapid sufficient. If you can get a thing like this with eSATA, THEN DO IT! The cost distinction is worth it in hindsight.
