Very clean cut design, just as straightforward as I was wanting. one modest flaw that just barely flipped it into a 4 for me, although this wont genuinely matter at all to most other people, because my case is full of other HD, I stuck my last 2TB in here. I use MediaCenter from my 360 ALOT. Because this setup has a automobile spooldown energy saver function built onto the board, the share into the MediaCenter doesnt remain. This causes me to have to re-add all the files every single time I want somethign off of it from the 360. Minor flaw, and most would be mounting the drive with a SATA and mounted in the case itself. Not a actual big thing, just a preference actually. Havent identified a way to disable the spooldown. Regardless of the 1 con I had, I will absolutely purchase one more as I could want it. Manufacturer Response:Niftyapple,Please make contact with ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com as there is no spooldown or spindown function on this unit.Thermaltake Customer Service

Good idea. Very quiet. Used on an i7 iMac 2009.Will function fine for a though. Even so it appears when there is high information transfer activity it drops the drive.Thereafter it arbitrarily unmounts the drive and damages it to the point where the drive need to be reformatted to be applied once again. At other times, the drive is just unmounted without having warning. This has been the case with two drives - 1TB Seagate and a 2TB Western Digital.Always the exact same factor - works well for a while then fails till drive is reformated.Failed as each a Time Machine volume, and employing SuperDuper backup. Also fails when merely copying files across. Is it a Mac issue? No idea but I can not advocateAlso, as an additional note, the USB and power jacks are incredibly loose. Can't trust information to this device. Keep away from.

Fast and simple setup. Plug and play on a Mac. Couldn't be simpler to use. None that I have found, while I will most likely get a dual dock the subsequent time about. I've had this for about 2 years and love it. Really basic to use - just plug it in, insert a drive, and go. Makes it Extremely east to access data on bare drives that you might have replaced with larger capacities. Earlier these days I used it to access a (piece of garbage) SimpleTech drive that I pulled out of its case when an internal power connection fairly literally went up in smoke. Despite the fact that removing the drive from the dead case voided the absolutely useless SimpleTech warranty, considering that the challenging drive itself was still okay, the Thermaltake dock enabled me to simply get to the data I required. It was effectively worth the value just for this.If you have any raw SATA drives lying around this dock is an incredibly worthwhile acquire. It is also good in emergencies, like mine above.

USB docking for internal challenging drive Only USB two. compatible I required access to second external docking station for SATA challenging drives. Found this one here at a reasonable value. It did not "hurt" that it was also rated well.

easy to setup. The small black flap brokes straightforward I have 1 for over a year now, I use it for formating and coping form drive to drive. Now with my new LED tv I put movies on a drive utilizing the Thermaltake and plug it into the television usb port (thats right plug and play) and your shows pop up.

plug and play, simple short cord, tough to plug in three.5" SATA HD's but truly uncomplicated for two.five good, used this instead of letting my old macbook HD rot. So basically I now have a 80 GB flash drive lol, excellent for the cost i suppose

This docking station is ultra convenient to use with the new media players.I have several of these docking stations from unique manufacturers. This 1 has the most substantial power transformer compared to some of the cheaper competitors; it runs cooler and will last longer.I anticipate this to be as durable as a Honda. There are no cons. Speed doesn't make a distinction to the new media players; USB 2. is plenty fast enough.

Uncomplicated & convenient. I wanted this to be able to make copies of tough drives etc with no having to open up the personal computer and add a fixed drive. Also works wonderful as a holder for a backup drive. Can't believe of any. I have a friend who has had 1 for a year without any problems.

It's particularly simple to use and to swap out challenging drives of any size. It auto sleeps when not in use to save energy and lessen heat. With out external airflow the drive can get very hot if used consistently for extended periods. Although, I am employing a 1TB tough drive and it truly only got hot when even though I was transferring a lot of data to it.

Straightforward to use dock, solid eject switch. The energy and access indicator on the leading looks like a energy button. I don't swap drives often, so I typically end up pushing the light just before remembering the switch is on the back. I use this dock with a WNDR3700 router to act as my media server. The combo streams to my PS3 wonderfully. Low power usage but certainly I have to rip my movies on a different machine and copy them over.

Hot swap a terabyte drive like its a flash drive. Wow! It tries to autoexecute everytime I put a drive on-line. No big deal. Just close the window. The minute I saw this featured, I knew I'd appreciate it. I skipped the jazz drives and tape backups and just saved to extra difficult drives. Now I use this item and can't imagine going back to working without having it.

Convenience, low profile Failed with 30 minutes of use. Multiple computers could no longer recognize the docking station. Message stated that the unit had failed. I ordered 2 sets of docking stations and drives and set back whole order. Don't want to deal with this. Failure is not an choice out of the box.

Very handy. Good design. Doesn't appear almost as crazy as I thought it would on my desk. Keeps drive very cool given that it is 3ǚths exposed to room air. I like the fact it has a power button (other external manf. really should take note). Beats the living heck outta opening my case to test a drive and looks better than my old cable adapter for doing SATA to USB. So far none. Works as advertised. I can't believe how inexpensive this factor was (grabbed on SS for ង$).I wish they would make one of these with eSATA so I could just buy a half dozen of them and get rid of my old my book enclosures.

Nice to have a slightly cheaper option for those who do not require connections other than USB, plugs are firm, base sticks to table and doesn't slide about, base doesn't get hot none that I have observed so far Would be nice to have some way to cool off challenging drives. They get a lot additional air in a case than they do in this holder. Other thing is the difficult drive is vertical instead of horizontal in all probability not wonderful for the drive.

Inexpensive. Would work well as an ashtray if I smoked. Under Windows 2000 SP4, the device doesn't recognize a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 200GB drive when the drive is in place. Recognizes a Hitachi 250GB drive, allows file creation, but won't acknowledge that reformatting is feasible. Visiting the T'take web internet site for directions provides formatting FAQs for Win XP, Vista and Win 7, but not W2K. Purchased for new PC that will run Win XP, but for now the T'take box is useless. Thermaltake's rebate registration web page was unaccessible over the past weekend. Now the 20-day rebate registration period has expired, and I'm locked out of of the process. I feel Thermaltake(n)!

cheap, simple, works not the prettiest factor with a bare drive sticking out of the leading, but who cares - it works. Transfers just as fast as my other USB two. drives. I stream video from it to a media box in an additional part of the home over 802.11b with no troubles. I've had it connected and powered on for almost 8 months with no problems. Works fantastic in XP Pro and Ubuntu.

Comment:
I noticed this SKU on sale again a few months ago and almost bought the double slot model, but since I already had one of them in my "toolkit", I decided not to lay out the extra cash and save it for another HD :-)With the declining prices of SATA HD drives, these docking stations are terrific for backups and quick system/file maintenance chores.
