This dock is easy to use and install. Plug it in and it works. Think of it as a portable toaster for your external hard drive. I take it with me to do work at home, share pictures and music with friends. Plop in a hard drive, and there you go. It doesn't get easier than this. A push of a button and out pops the external hard drive. Put another one in the dock-Bam! Your are business with a whole new set of data. Superb!

Not the fastest but it works
Comment:
Easy to connect and was recognized by Windows XP and 7 right away. Took overnight to clone a 500gb drive ranging from 8mb to 15mb per second on a usb2. But, the information was all there. I think a firewire option would increase throughput.

Not compataablie with my SATA drive
Comment:
I needed to retreive the data from a Shugart SATA that was installed in a Dell laotop with a hardware failure. Unfortunately, I had to disassemble the drive to plug it into the BlacX. Once it was pluged in, the performance was acceptable.

excellent product, great price
Comment:
i have used this unit for about a month, and there have been no issues. the ddrive works excellent in the toaster, and functions as though it were in the tower itself...obviously it is a bit slower, but functions flawlessly. set up is as simple as can be. open package, plug unit in, plug hard drive in, do what you want. bear in mind - if you plug in a hard drive that is not formatted, you will need to format it in order to utilize it, otherwise you will not be able to access it.

When something is suppose to also be for Mac and isn't from Apple I usually expect I'll be returning about half of those items. The Hard Drive Dock from Thermaltake (N0028USU) worked right of the box. It has performed as designed. I would (and have) recommend this to product to other Mac owner. shoe

Seems to work fine
Comment:
I've had it now for about a month, and it works as advertised, a little slow. no real outstanding features or software. Also the light on the front looks like a power button but don't push it, it's just a light.

I use this docking station to transfer large files and pre-load both, 3.5 and 2.5 inch drives. One more plus is the small footprint compared to two enclosures.

good product works with vista
Comment:
im using it with a 2 tb seagate the box says up to 1 tb. i had to format the drive when i hooked it up, ihad to initialize the disc and format took 16 hours, i dont know if it was becasue it was 5900 rpm older drive or what but it works fine. I would do my best to get one with esata if you have an esata port, transfers 3 times faster.

Good Value
Comment:
This dock is very handy, since I swaps drives alot. When I'm not using a drive it can be stored in a static free sleve. This dock has performed well and I can use the money to buy more drives rather than enclosures. I found it is best not to handle a drive after use on a day that is dry with low humidity. I just power the dock down and wait till it cools. I am happy with this purchase and would recommend.

this product works great when u do something dumb like me and screw up your PC, i was able to save all my stuff onto another hard drive so I could reset mine to the manufacturers settings. I went to a tech and they wanted to charge me more than 10x's what i paid for this! its simple and easy to use, u wont regret it.

Best I have ever bought
Comment:
I use these at work as an IT professional to access files on sata hd's and laptop hd's that no longer boot. It is the easiest dock to swap hd's that I have used and unlike many of the ones I have had before, doesn't have a cheap power plug that will break off easily. It also has a smaller footprint on your desk than most docking stations.

What a pleasant surprise!
Comment:
I was expecting to have some type of problem with this docking station - the deal seemed too good to be true but it worked perfectly from the minute I inserted the USB connection and put in the drive from my dead PC! Voila, there was all the work from the past three years! Fantastic product for what I needed. Have already recommended it to others.

Great idea!
Comment:
I have two of these hard drive docks, I use one at the office and one at home. By moving the hard drives between the office and home, I always have the most current information at my fingertips. It makes life a lot simpler when you only need to carry a drive instead of lugging around removeable drives and power supplies.

Good deal
Comment:
Good if you have to test a lot of drives, good if you want to use a drive for backup. I dont know if they were made to use in a permanent setup though. They do work fine for testing and backup. Wish they also worked with ide drives!

Works well, no problems
Comment:
This is a good product so far. I've had no problems with the 6 SATA drives i've used it on. I'm finding however that ideally, this device should have an ESATA connection. USB is fine, but if you want to use this to run lower level disk operations or defrags, USB, even USB2.0 is kinda pokey. That's not a problem with the device, just a fact. I would have rated the value a 5 if it had ESATA. Otherwise this product does exactly what it's supposed to.

Thermaltake N0028USU External Enclosure
Cons:Installation issues, at least on some systems.Vulnerable to dust?

Pros:Versatile and convenient for occasional access to infrequently used hard drives.Fast, as USB2 goes.
Comment:
I had a problem during installation on my Windows XP computer. The BlacX locked up with continuous drive access and even after hot unplugging I had to power it off from this state. After reconnecting and restarting I found that the driver had installed ok and the dock and drive were working properly with no apparent ill consequences. However, I could no longer access a mapped network drive for my NAS. Eventually I realized that the installation had reassigned some drive letters and a flash card drive was conflicting with the mapped drive. Changing back the drive letters in disk management solved the problem and it has not recurred during subsequent use of the docking station. Perhaps the BlacX is not to blame as it installs a standard Windows driver, but I have never experienced this problem with other external drives or any USB devices. Undoubtedly the issue is specific to the system configuration and installation on my Vista laptop was fast, simple and problem free.Performance seems comparable to typical standard USB drive enclosures, perhaps faster than most at initial access to a file. The eject button is pretty useless with poor leverage and is very stiff to operate, easier just to hold the unit with one hand while pulling out the drive with the other. The hinged dust cover leaves the 2.5" drive slot uncovered, right above the SATA connector which raises long-term concerns about dust entry. Otherwise, the BlacX seems solid and well built. Its footprint is a bit large considering the vertical drive orientation but that gives it good stability. It pretty much has to take up space on a desktop to provide access for inserting drives.

slicker than pond scum
Comment:
I was looking for an external drive to back up my laptop, and at first looked that the packaged drives. My son in law who is my resident computer guru suggested this because it allows me to have as many SATA drives as I want, and swap them like thumb drives... it WORKS FANTASTIC. My only glitch was with the 1TB drive that needed initialized and formated... took ALL DAY. But this dock rocks!!!
