very handy tool to have and works great!
Comment:
So far so good with this tool. I've thrown a lot of different devices on it and have had no issues at all... the only thing it's missing is an on off switch.

I use this product to conect spare HD for backup. For some reason it does not get seen by my computer at times even after reboot as installed by directions. When working it does a fine job.

Works perfectly, saved me lots of time.
Comment:
I purchased this after having had to borrow an IDE adapter to format a laptop hard drive, and this product worked better and didn't require me to shutdown my desktop to plug the drive in. Since using it on a 2.5in. drive, I used it to check and format four 3.5in. drives. Worked flawlessly each time. The only trick I noticed was that you have to plug in the power first, let the 3.5in drive wind up, then plug in the USB. I would buy this product again without hesitation.

It Works If You Can Keep It From Breaking
Comment:
I like the fact you can access any hard drive via usb connection. It worked beautifully and was very convenient considering my computer had crashed. All that being said, the SATA connection on top has already had a piece broken off and the whole dang piece comes off if you don't hold it down while taking the SATA cable out. Good product, just cheaply made I feel.

Works as Advertised
Comment:
Product was able to retrieve data from several of my older, and damaged hard drives. Extremely happy with the product. Nice not to require a chassis to power up the drives, just plug this product into the drive and connect the usb cable to your computer.

I have 2 dead laptops that I have been trying to get running well enough to pull off the files. Got this little gadget and within minutes I was able to connect and pull all the files. Worked great right out of the box.

Inconsistent Performance
Comment:
Of the five old hard drives I keep as spares, this unit was able to access only one of them. I am hoping to learn some secret to plugging them in, but I am not encouraged. Scott

A necessary tool for upgrading laptop harddrive
Comment:
I needed this to replace a 20GB disk with a 120GB disk. Using Acronis software and this product, I was able to transfer the entire personality of my laptop to a larger disk without reinstalling Windows or the many applications I had on the laptop. This is what I wanted and the product worked properly and was reasonably priced for a one-time use. (I see no limitation to it being used repeatedly for disk upgrade, the components are rugged enough for many, many uses.)

Good Product does what it's suppose to do
Comment:
I received the adapter in the mail promptly but it worked only once and then stopped. I was using it to transfer files from my Dell Dimension 8400 desktop running Windows 2000 to a laptop running Microsoft Vista. Call and did an exchange and the 2nd adapter worked just as it was advertised. I was able to transfer all the files and actually fix the old hard drive. Other reviews mention being careful of the connections and I would agree. I would recommend this product.

Not a Good Buy
Comment:
I purchased this to trouble-shoot a lap-top HD. It workd fine but the two black leads are not secure to the adapter. I was disappointed, if you do not reattach the leads to the adapter properly the HD frying begins.. Be Careful Why do I have to type this Ridiculously long item name?? I think i won't waste anymore time with this site

Best 25 bucks I've spent in a while.
Comment:
I bought this originally to help with some troubleshooting on a old HDD. Turns out I've used it with 5 computers so far to help solve problems and move files. If you are wondering if you need one, you DO.

Worked great
Comment:
This adapter worked perfectly for what I needed. It took me awhile to figure out out to remove the final part from the laptop hard drive to get the proper connectors exposed for the adapter, but once that was done I connected it and it showed up as an external drive. No problems.

Don't know how I lived without it
Comment:
This is nice to have. Haven't used it on a SATA drive yet, but works great for IDE. Used it to recover a friends failing hard drive, and it made upgrading my laptop drive a breeze. Also works for using spare hard drives as extra storage when you need it.

Gets the job done
Comment:
This cable works great for every application I have had to use it on so far. It works flawlessly on all SATA Drives as well as 2.5 Notebook IDE Drives. I have had mixed results with 3.5 IDE drives and the plug in block does seem to be a bit fragile, but all in all it is an affordable tool that is now a necessary evil for the computer tech as well as the home user. Affordable is important. I would recommend this tool to anyone for it's ease of use. If it lasts more than a couple months, I may buy it again because it is affordable and so far has gotten the job done.
