Upgraded from an Athlon X2 5200+ to this, and the difference is night and day. For 89.99 it was a steal of a deal.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:This CPU is getting a bit long in the tooth so there are better processors available.

Pros:Good Speed for moneyGreat for upgrading older motherboards that support This CPUDecent over clocking with proper third party coolerAMD has optimized the architecture since its initial release
Comment:
I've bought 3 of these of the past few years, this CPU is a excellent performer, its near impossible to get a better bang for you buck, Its compatible with most higher end AM2+ motherboards AM3 motherboards and current gen AM3+ motherboards. If Intel would do this I would take them a bit more seriously. I like to get longevity out of my equipment, this cpu and cpus like this allow that If you have a older AMD motherboard and seriously look at upgrading to this CPU if your mother board supports it.

Cons:Fan is very loud

Pros:Very fast, affordable
Comment:
Super fast and much more affordable than Intel. I can now play guild wars 2 on highest settings and get over 50 fps. I used this in an asrock 970 extreme3 and it has worked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this to any gamers who want great performance without breaking the bank

Pros:-good price-good power/price ratio-can chew everything i throw at it
Comment:
been using this for a while now, it does everything i threw at it, poker multitabling, photoshopping, heavy multitasking on 2 monitors basically everything. the power u get at the price is phenomenal. i guess the fan could be quieter under load but u could always get a 3rd party HS and fan

Bought this to upgrade an aging AM2+ 2.3 ghz processor. It's not super high-end, but it does the trick. I have no problems running any of my games, and I have yet to find anything I normally do on the computer to make this CPU slow down.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Stock HSFan is crap especially for overclocking purposes. Recommend to purchase an after market HSFan.

Pros:Considering how long these PhII's have been around, you still can't beat this price per performance for a quad-core CPU. Easily overclockable.
Comment:
If you're looking for your best bang for buck on a budget build then this is the CPU for you, just make sure to pair it with an AM3+ board so you can upgrade to bulldozer when their prices drop  some more.Just Buy It!

Cons:Getting a little long in the tooth

Comment:
PH II chips are getting a little long in the tooth, but considering their performance compares favorably to AMD's BullDozer line they're well worth looking into as an upgrade if you have a compatible motherboard.

Comment:
I'd rate this CPU a 6 egg if I could. I've employed about 30+ 965's in the last year on my higher finish gaming rigs. This CPU eats up everything I throw at it game-smart. My consumers have been thrilled at efficiency. This CPU wins hands down for gaming, specially thinking of the cost. You could be capable to get a couple of more frames/second with a CPU that charges 3X a lot more, but you'll under no circumstances discover it. I at the moment have mine overclocked to three.8Ghz with a voltage bump to 1.4v (which is the max voltage advised by AMD). I had it at 4.0Ghz but had to bump the voltage to 1.475 and I actually didn't notice a performance increase. You're better off getting a far better video card and SSD rather than attempting to push your CPU to the max anyway, considering that it's unlikely a CPU in this category is going to be your bottleneck. The stock cooler is fine for non-overclockers. It can spool up a bit when the CPU warms up and be slightly noisy although. ASUS M4A785TD-V Evo motherboardASUS 768MB GTX 460 AMD 965 Phenom - OC'ed to three.8Ghz @ 1.4V (via multiplier)Runs just about every game I throw at it butter smooth at highest settings - Starcraft II, Mass Impact 2, Final Fantasy VIX, Left four Dead two, Group Fortress two, and so on., and so forth., and so on.Silly factor is, this is about a 迀 program after a nice Antec situation, WD black hard drive, a excellent power supply and optical drives. However men and women go out and buy a 񘐜-񘷠 i7 system for gaming. I guess the old saying is correct: A fool and his money are soon parted........The only issue I'd ever recommend an i5 or and i7 more than this CPU is for greater finish multimedia rendering applications. Buf if you're gaming, pull the trigger on the 965 and save oneself some funds. If you buy an i7 for gaming, you may as well go out and purchase a Ferrari for your day-to-day driver. The i7 and high end i5's are much more potent for some applications, but you'll under no circumstances discover a difference in gaming.

Comment:
It's effectively priced for what you get. Fan on the included heatsink is a bit louder than I would have hoped for, but others have mentioned that and I was prepared for this. The heatsink is beefier than my past stock AMD heatsinks. It also comes with thermal paste on it currently. I added Arctic Silver instead. I'm operating at 32 celsius idle, and about 40-44 whilst gaming. I don't consider that is as well poor from what I've seen. This is ahead of the burn in for the arctic silver, so I hope it drops a bit. My old AMD dual core by no means pushed over 40 celsius, but that also was not 125W.

Bought to replace my Phenom II x4 940 BE, which was an AM2+ socket for when I finally get around to upgrading to a AM3+ board and get some DDR3 RAM. Pretty much the same performance wise, but with that said the 940 was a great CPU.

I waited on writing a assessment about this till I had truly stress tested it and OC'd it rather a bit and I'm right here to say this issue is a beast!I have generally been a fan of Intel and their function for rather some time but I wanted to try out AMD and see what they had to provide. I will admit that AMD is slightly behind Intel as far as the tech specs go but dang...this chip is a monster for the price. I have Overclocked it to 4.4GHz on water-cooling (previously four.1GHz on air) and it keeps some pretty decent operating temperatures. I have only been pleased with this chip's and AMD's efficiency and appear forwards to the next generation. None If you are arranging to acquire this chip and could be on a tight price range I would advocate holding off for a few months. AMD will be releasing their new line "Bulldozer" and "Bobcat" right here in a bit and it could definitely be worth the wait. If it turns out both bulldozer and bobcat aren't for you, I would still guess that the 965 would drop in price. But it is your call.

Great Strong CPU. RUNS AT 40 C WITH AMD SUPPLIED COOLING FAN; REMOVED INSTALLED THERMAL COMPOUND AND SUBSTITUTED "ARCTIC SILVER five". HAVEN'T TRIED ANY TWEAKS Yet. 8 PINS ON OUTER EDGE OF CPU Had been BENT, ALL Exactly Similar ANGLE WITH Perfect ALIGNMENT. CAME IN FACTORY SEALED BOX WITH NO VISIBLE Harm. I HAVE Never ever Seasoned THIS Condition Just before. Really should HAVE RETURNED BUT RE-ALIGNED PINS AND INSTALLED WITH NO Issue. Deserves 5 eggs except for damage. Quite quick, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Real bang for your buck :)I would encouraged this to a buddy Loud stock fan, even when not in use. I think I may possibly replace it. At initial I did not notice the noise since of my A/C unit. But now, with the A/C unit off, the space is considerably quieter, so the fan noise is considerably a lot more noticeable. Not currently overclocking (I haven't had a purpose to)Cool'n quiet mode is set to 'auto.' There wasn't any difference in noise when I changed it to 'on'

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Non that I've found so far

Pros:Very fast and easy to OC, Not to mention Awesome Price VS power!
Comment:
Get it! I was looking at an i5 but the price difference compared to power is too great. Everybody says to get an i5 processor it's better, Well Duh! it's over $100.00 more (twice the price) it should be better! But it's not twice the power so I say for my everyday computer and gaming on newer games this is working great. I put the money I saved towards a huge Graphics card. I'm proud of my new machine!

Quite rapidly low power consumption. Kicks Intel's behind compared to dual core. Doubled my Windows 7 speed rating. A lot less costly compared to a comparable Intel. A single of the very best processors I have ever had (now that it operates). If you are making AMD for the 1st time immediately after 30 years of Intel boxes, you need to have to know that the AMD has pins, and that they are quite soft. Quite Negative design. I don't know If I was sent a employed a single or if the pins were misaligned from the factory because it never ever occurred to me to inspect it. Even although I was really cautious putting it in apparently one particular of the pins was misaligned and bent when I installed it. When I inspected the CPU I also located many random other pins that had been slightly misaligned. I spent over an hour acquiring the pins to stand in perfectly straight rows. Second insertion went without a difficulty.I have never ever had the problem prior to so when the build didn't perform (no video) I assumed it was the motherboard (after checking the memory and PSU). It under no circumstances even occurred to me to examine the processor due to the fact that just has never ever happened ahead of.So lessons learned for very first time AMD builders. Inspect the processor Prior to inserting it. The two stars reflect the poor style and the truth that I was sent a returned item ( I do not know if that is what occurred but I am assuming it as the most most likely explanation). As soon as I straightened the pins to ideal alignment, the processor worked and is Really rapidly and runs cool with the stock fan! I would have given it five stars and I program to purchase one more but maybe not from Newegg.

I do not own this cpu but my brother has had it for 6 months now. For a budge cpu it does what its suppose to do. Easy to overclock with, however the stock fan is quite horrible and the noise is loud. It also heats up really easily, but its expected for the price.
