I got this on sale, runs pretty fast, large cache that finally catches up with the Seagate NS drives (32mb). I like that it has dual processors, but i did have problems with this in my enclosure, it just wouldnt spin, Im pretty sure it's because the dual processors need more juice than my enclosure can provide. I put this sucker into my case, and it runs great. |

Great for DVR external HD

I previously had only Seagate HD but looking for a HD to use it as an external disk for my DVR 8300HD, most reccomendations were for WD so I bought it. The HD is working for 1 month great, it has no issues in recording 2 shows and playing a third one, is not overheating in its Vantec enclosure however, its noise level is a little too loud. I cannot say anything yet about its reliability. |

Cons:- Problems arrise when put in RAID 5.- NOISE: I have 3 Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB drives in my main rig, and they collectively make LESS noise that just ONE WD 1TB Black. Seek noise, AND idle noise are very loud. above 35 dB at least. If you have watercooling, or just like silenced PCs, stay away, or figure out some moddification to dampen the noise.- The drive can run quite hot if not properly ventelated. DO NOT put in middle of a stack, where it is sandwiched between two other drives.- Does not support new WD Advanced Formatting.
Pros:- A great drive for extra storage, especially for server use.- Fast: The access time and benchmarks can prove it.- 5 years warranty.- Solid build. Comment:

When I receveid this drive the first thing that commed to mind was it's heavy. This drive is solid fast. When defragmenting it make a lot more noise than my Seagate drive. Seagate abandonned their 5 years warranty because of the firmware crisis. |

I bought this drive based on warranty, my preference for Western Digital, and the price (actually cheaper than the Green at the time). For my needs, a WD Green would've been a better choice as my HTPC case is small and has poor airflow. Decided to buy an actively cooled enclosure and use that to store all of my media. It's not the quietest drive I've owned, but it's not the loudest either. So with that said, I would not recommend this HDD for a HTPC as it is a waste of performance. Not to mention HTPC cases generally don't have the greatest airflow. But if you want an HDD with the best performance, great reliability and warranty, this is tough to beat. |

I bought this HDD when it was on special for 92 CAD, and I do not regret any cent of it.This is so much of an improvement over my last 250GB HDD, that you just cannot compare them.However, with this new HDD I've decided to take steps in order to keep optimum speeds at all time, which implies that I defrag every day and trust me, it DOES make a difference.If you are looking for a bit more of room, and are an avid gamer, then this HDD is definitely for you. You have nothing to lose.Make sure to make at least two partitions obviously! ;) |

This is probably the best bang for your buck as far as fast 1 TB hard drives are concerned and its not as loud as some might say either. In my large tower, which is well insulated, you can barely even here this beast. Had the WDC 500gb se16 drive and this 1 TB black drive is a nice upgrade and it runs around 29'C for me. |

Bought 2, 1 died

I bought two of these, one died immediately, the other is fine. What attracted me to these drives is not the speed but the 5 year warranty and the fact that the spindle is attached at both ends. I replaced the dead drive with an identical one purchased locally and it was OK. I think this was just a fluke, I recommend the drive. |

I had been buying the cheaper 500G and 1TB Seagate drives with 8 and 32M but after multiple failures I have had enough. I moved to WD black drives about 6 months ago and have not heard so much as a hiccup on any of my machines they are installed in. Thank you WD for helping me to rememeber why I used to buy your drives for so many years. |

Fast and reliable, they will meet all your storage needs!A drawback to the drive as compared to the Seagate equivalents is that these are much obviously louder than their competition, but on the other hand, also don't suffer from the same firmware issues that Seagate drives are suffering from. |

This drive is fast but noisy and hot; my case in not great on ventilation so I had to sell this drive and get myself a Samsung F3 for the OS drive - it's quiet and cool and it appears just as fast. Overall, if you don't care about noise, this is the drive; if you arebuilding a quiet PC, look at Samsung F3 or other options.I'll give it 5 stars for performance and 2 for noise. can't comment on its longevity. |

I bought this just in time for the Windows 7 launch back in October for $94.99. So far this drive has performed perfectly, no hiccups or crashes whatsoever. 1TB is a ton of space, so it is going to last me for a while. Windows Experience Index gives it a rating of 5.9 out of 7.9. |
