-Purchased to replace a dieing seagate drive in my raid setup. This drive is much more quiet than the previous drive was.-Did not notice any speed difference, however the build quality on the drive seems to be very good. I will definitely purchase more of these drives in the future. |

A very nice HD

Purchased and installed this drive today because my 80 GB Hitachi drive was full. Also, my thought is to move all files onto this drive and use the 80 GB drive for operating system and program files only. It's fast at 7200RPM and 32MB cache, cool at 51 C and barely audible to inaudible while reading or writing. Compusa didn't have any in stock, so I bought mine from a competing local or national audio-visual retailer. I got it for 99.99, retail box, so it was still a good deal by market standards. |

I purchased four of these to put into a new virtualization PC I'm building at work in two RAID0 arrays. One thing I didn't know is that the MBR partition cannot be more than 2TB in size, otherwise you can't install Windows. I was a little disappointed because I was looking at putting all four of them in a RAID5 array, but now I have to put them into a RAID0 array. |

What can I say? It's a very good 1TB HDD. The Black series is faster than the other WD HDD's but apparently run warmer. For what it's worth, mine runs between 26 and 29 C.This drive has not been audible above ambient system noise and it has been everything I would expect from a quality hard drive... which is to say that I haven't noticed it.Overall I am very pleased and will be getting another one in the new year. |

Fantastic HDD. I'm currently using this with Windows 7 and everything runs quickly and smoothly. Definitely noticed an increase in performance with HDD based games (like Red Alert 3) over my old drive. My only complaint is that it is a little... verbal... when it is working. Not nearly as bad as some HDDs, but if you are a stickler for noise then it might be something to consider. Definitely overlook-able though if you are in the market for a quality, and large, hard drive. Absolutely recommend. |

I don't know what to think of this mythical "short lifespan" for these Caviar Black drives, but I'd take them with a grain of salt. These drives are possibly the fastest storage solution available, aside from SSDs, which are still too expensive for the average user. I have a load of these Caviar Black's, I suggest them for all client builds, and I use them personally. I would highly recommend this drive, and would only purchase WD drives. |

WD is the best.

I have been a WD customer fo r more the 6 yrs and have always been pleased with their products. I must say that they have even improved on their homepage with assistance in getting your product with the most up-to-date software. I will not try any other brand. |
I own two of these drives and now running them in Raid 0, they are fast drives and run great. I do find them on the slow side when first trying to access files and also that's when its at its loudest after about 1 sec or so delay then they get more quit and speed just sores. Best value out there for performance and storage needs.Note: that delay in accessing the files only started to happen once I put them into Raid 0 mode, that part was faster when single.RAID USERS: In the new firmware version 00J7B1 they have the TLER switch removed so it will no longer properly support All other raid versions besides 0.
