I recently had some old 120gb drive failing, I replaced them all with this one. The job is done. On a side note, my 1TB Hitachi and samsung drives are faster on big files writes. But I took the unit on sale, great buy, would add some of these at a decent price soon. |

bought this and seagate 1tb drive aswell on the same order. This was more money but decided to try the new WD black drives.Used everest to test the speed of this drive and had better results on every test, except tied on one test.Noticeably a little bit louder. Nothing show stopping though |

I only give this four stars because it didn't "wow" me. I expected it to be noticeably faster than my 640GB Blue and that's just not the case (as seen by HDTUNE). It's still very fast, and I've had no issues with either noise or temperature in a Sonata III case.Good drive, great price. |

Raid 0, normal partition, regardless how you want to rig and run 'em they do their job, and do it quite well. Seen some comments about noise, that's crap, unless you got 3 or more running raid, and any drive will get noisy when you have many writing and reading at the exact same time. Seen some comments about reliability. Maybe their mileage differs. I push my equipment to the edge, and then I push it more. They soak up the punishment and never complain. I'll own 6 or more shortly. The two I already have are performing admirably. If you need storage and speed, buy it, period. Unless you got the scratch for multiple raptors or SSD drives. The two 4s were because I'd like to see them a little cheaper, and I'm not sure they really feature any more "features" than any comparable drive. I'd awarded a 6+ for the other two categories if it were possible. |

Do not try these in a raid. I have 8 drives installed and 5 are returning reallocated sector changes, and 2 have SMART Failures. I'll try to send these back for ES drives |

This drive is fast. REALLY fast for a 7200RPM drive. It must be due to the 32MB of cache it has. The only thing I'm not pleased about is the fact that its loud, VERY loud! It is somewhat silent when it's not being used. I have this drive set as a slave, but when it starts seeking data, the drive is louder than I ever thought a new hard drive would be. I have my computer in an enclosed desk, and you can still hear that drive thumping along! So, if you are recording live audio in a small environment and lack of noise is important to you, then you might want to look for another brand. Other than this issue, the drive is great! I've had it for 4 months now without any troubles. It runs cool, and I leave my system on for many days at a time. |

I just received and installed this drive and it works great I took out my old 80 gig and replaced with this one and i can tell the performance of this drive is far better than any seagate that i have ever owned. very smooth installation and performance. I would recommend the WD over seagate anytime. i split the drive into 3 partitions and have no problems with it at all. very happy with my purchase and as always TigerDirect had in here in no time. great drive for the price. |
For 100$ this is a great hard drive, works good and I don't think it's too noisy.The packaging sucked IMO. Hard drives should always be shipped in some "floating" package, like 2 plastic ends in a box... Not simply wrapped in one layer of bubles with all other items. All of the hard drives that failed on me in the past years had been shipped that way.
