Comment: I have owned several WD drives and this is the largest I have purchased so far. I have never had any issues with any of the WD drives, maybe I have been lucky, but this seems to be performing up to the standard I have experienced with WD products in the past. The drive runs quiet and is fast enough for me. Highly recommended.

Pros:Fast and silent. Like a stealth killer. Comment: I bought this for my rig so it can store my data. It has 32MB which I believe it's very tough for performance. Excellent in gaming as it runs 7,200 RPM. Very efficent and recommended.

These things are crazy fast! When copying files from one of my 1TB Black drives to the 1TB Black drives in my roommate's server over gigabit LAN I see transfer speeds of 85-95 MB/sec which makes copying large Blurays quick and easy. The 5 year warranty is icing on the cake.Very satisfied with this drive. My only regret is not buying 3 of them!

I couldn't recuperate all my information from it, especially family photos and Sony hd camcorder records. I was very pleased with its performance until the incident. I was Seagate consumer who tried the WD based on the hd reviews. It could happen anytime with any other hd, but a backup should be performed regularly, now I learned.

Comment: I bought this because I wanted a new drive for Windows 7. I already have a WD SE16 Caviar, and that drive has been excellent; quiet and fast. The Black series was more expensive when it came out since it was labelled as high performance. When I compare the 2 drives though the performance is nearly identical, and while I've never even heard my SE16 drive, the Black is loud. Really, really loud. It's annoying and I wish I had bought something else now but I don't want to bother doing an RMA and re-installing all my stuff.

So it's easy to compare / test the temperature and this one gets slightly hotter than the WD green series. But no outage up to now even during this years hot west coast summer. (That's what you expect from a drive with the MTBF of several years).

Was it worth it? For the money, it seemed very pricey, but then again it was the only consumer drive to offer a 5 yr warranty. The speeds on this thing are great, but one thing I noticed was that it runs considerably hot. You may/may not take that in as a factor. This is the best in the 1TB range, but you pay a price for it.

They get somewhat warm, but they are more than fast enough to make up for that small negative. Super cheap, but so damn worth every penny!

First one I used it as my OS drive. The other one I started using it about a month after I used the first one. The second drive died on me and I could not get any of my data back. Had to ship back the drive to NCIX, but also had to pay my own shipping. That's BAD POLICY RIGHT THERE FOR NCIX. Buyers beware, drive may die easily.
