The discs (I ordered two of them) presented some amazing storage capacity for comparatively smaller amount of funds. The plan was to put these each into a RAID scenario and reap the positive aspects of speed combined with enormous storage. That way I could serve media to the rest of my residence and have a dump drive for the archiving project of DVD rips (would also be served to various media extenders throughout the house). Both drives had crucial failings. Putting these into my machine I thought there would be no concerns and to my surprise (unpleasant) one particular didn't spin up at all. Instead I heard the click of doom, which meant I had a 50% failure proper off the bat. I packaged this one back up paid dollars to ship it and RMA'ed back to Newegg. The second 1 worked, so I speedy formatted and performed a consistency check on the disk with HD tune pro. It found numerous damaged sectors of the disk suitable off the bat. Exceeding the threshold for the drive itself. I ran WD lifeguard utility and diags all failed for the drive. Benchmarks for HD tune had been failing. There is no way I would trust this drive with any of my information, so it is bound when I get house this afternoon to have RMA issued for it as effectively. I would have loved to have each of these drives function proper off the bat. On the other hand, one particular getting defective and one entirely non-functional things are looking really grim in my prospectus on Western Digital tough disks. Rates for paying for return shipping on these will soon make the worth for the drives appear SUPREMELY less appealing. Time will tell if the RMA returns will be any superior, but I don't believe with the complications that I faced with these two drives that in the future I could recommend getting WD challenging drives. I assume I will stick with Samsung as I have two 500GB difficult disks that are nonetheless going powerful soon after two years with (zero) negative sectors. There is no cause aside from sub-normal top quality assurance testing on the portion of WD, that a hard disk really should be shipped to OEM or finish user with that quite a few failed sectors.

Excellent drive, lots of space, rapidly load times, only 90$.Fantastic for budget builds.Trustworthy compared to other HDDs. None! If it says that there is less space than 1024 Gb, it is mainly because one thing else is taking up the space, for example, a technique restore file.

1 tb and the price I don't know what individuals are talking about that its quick? Are u kidding me. This is the slowest drive I have ever seen in my life. All my old HD's run way quicker than this. I cant even play a movie i have stored on the HD and at the identical time dl to the same hd with no it skipping every 2 mins. I run a DAW known as Fruity Loops. A freaking sound clip takes 4-7 seconds to load which is ridiculous. My other hds are instant. If I get one more hd just before the warranty is up i'm returning it. I haven't done so due to the fact I have currently have like 500 gbs on it. IT WOULD TAKE TWO YEARS TO TRANSFER!!!!!. I would recommend utilizing for storage only.

It is what it is, a amazing drive. Loud when working challenging but that's it. The loudest it ever got was when I imported two TB of information into itunes. Price! Ain't it about time for a drop in these items. Intel already has new SSD's out and they dropped the value on the old ones.

1 Year anniversary of purchasing this drive, so I believed I'd put in a assessment. Nonetheless operating strong, dead silent, and not a single audible click. Employed as a media drive handling my music, movies, and recorded Television. Can't feel of a single con. 1tb is the MAX capacity hdd before you start to gamble with reliability. Appears like each single 1.5tb, 2.0tb, or 3.0tb drive on newegg has an alarming quantity of 1Ǜ egg ratings. Not positive why folks are taking their probabilities with one thing as important as a challenging drive.

Will purchase again, no doubt about it. Newegg was good!!

Rapidly, quiet, no installation troubles. none so far Purchased this WD drive Dec, 2009. Worked fine from the get-go and still working great. Dec, 2010 decided to retire my SCSI drives. I bought a same model for 2nd drive (not from NewEgg this time). It worked fine also. Now, no far more SCSI. Sustained I/O efficiency (r/w) is 80 - 120 MB/sec. Old SCSI drives were 40MB/sec. My program is dual boot Ubuntu Linux & Windows XP.System: ASUS MN2-SLI, AMD FX-62, 4GB ram

Fantastic hard drive, works like a champ. Whisper quiet. Plugged in as a secondary drive on Win 7 x64 machine and worked with no problems whatsoever. None As with most hardware, make positive you have plenty of air flow/ventilation to keep this factor cool if it is reading & writing regularly.

It worked nicely until this week. I expect a difficult drive will last additional than a year. It was manufactured in Thailand 14 months ago and I've had it for precisely one year. Further frustration is it wasn't recording Smart drive failure like it must. Note to hard drive manufactuers: Many of us would pay extra for a far more reliable drive. I wasted 20 hours troubleshooting this thing - substantial time I could have spent on something a lot more beneficial. And of course I have to pay to ship it back.

Quick, quiet drive with a lot of room, from the esteemed Western Digital. Decently priced. I purchased two of these drives to create a residence file/backup server. Given that they are 'Black Edition' drives, I was confident in their reputation of being the most dependable drives with the greatest performance on the industry. However, upon receipt of the drives I instantly had to problem an RMA for one of them, as it was reported as getting poor sectors. Immediately after a couple weeks I received the replacement; lo' and behold, immediately after a couple days this one developed bad sectors as well. Of course, this is soon after I've already moved all of the files from my several networked computers over. Luckily my cynicism caused me to copy it to each drives (assuming that 1 or each of the drives wouldn't take long to also report poor sectors). Now will be RMA'ing when again. Come on, Western Digital, get on the ball... I Constantly suggest Western Digital but that opinion is waning quickly. If this is your Black Edition, I'd hate to see how the Blue and Green Editions turn out...

Quick, quiet, lots of space. Performs much better than expected. None so far. I ordered two of these drives to run in RAID . One drive died 4 days soon after receiving via UPS in sufficiently good packaging, which Newegg promptly RMA exchanged(Thank you for the prompt response). I read in one more review where somebody noted that a single drive was as rapidly as a WD Raptor drive. Compared to two SATA150 Raptors in RAID it is. In the short time that I have had these drives I never ever had a problem with these drives timing out in spite of not getting WD3. I would advise these to a friend and it would possibly make a excellent drive to upgrade a Tivo Series three(I have actually used an additional create of the WD1001FALS to upgrade my Tivo Series 3 with superb outcomes).

Large storage space. Quiet, even when seeking. Rapidly, almost as rapidly as my 300GB VelociRaptors. Reliable, running since 2008 and no failure. May get warm in a poorly ventilated case. I use 1 of two bought as a back-up storage drive, every behind a 300GB VelociRaptor in two systems. Transfer rates are incredibly comparable to the VR's as are acoustics. I was rather suprised at the transfer rate getting as quickly as it is for average periods.

Fast and efficient, five Year Warranty Ordered 2, 1 defective from the get go. Super noisy, reseek errors, format failure. The second drive is ok proper now. I am really disapointed with WD good quality control. This drive really should have by no means created it out of the factory. I required two more drives for my project and ordered Seagate's instead. High failure rates seem to be the normal lately for WD. Thanks to Newegg for the fast RMA, should be getting the replacement currently.
