Worth 80 to 90$. In my opinion.What i dont like is: I don't hear my video card fan, i dont hear my processor or fan processor, all i hear is the HD..Noisy..but maybe im too picky.

Its an ok drive in term of performance. Compared to my green drives it is actually loud in comparison. Its the loudest thing in my computer(use an IGP graphic card). I love WD and this is a solid drive but I personally find it hard to tell one HDD to another in terms of performance. If you want performance wait for ssd to get cheaper else I would say just get a green drive as they have more storage space for cost. I doubt you will notice much of a difference if any between a green drive of black drive in performance. Otherwise a solid drive that wont give you any problems. Bought 4 drives from ncix, that were all WD and have not had one problem between them.

The write speeds are quicker and I haven't had any issues with it so far.

Have installed XP Pro and so far everything is running smoothly. HD Sentinel is showing no errors or problems with this drive, so far, and temperatures are running 28C to 34C depending on room tempererature. May order another one or two of these in the future as cashflow allows. Most importantly, it works with an older Asus P5K Premium Motherboard where some older HD's over 500GB did not.

These drives have been consistently quick and give a WEI of 5.9 which is supposed to be the highest one can get without going RAID-0 or SSD.Pondering another 2 of these for a second RAID-1 array... or a third for a RAID-5 array (since the Intel Matrix Storage software supports RAID migrations... none to RAID-1, RAID-1 to RAID-5, etc)

Comment: I'm using it as a storage drive and when I first access it, takes a few seconds to show me the drive contents. After that initial delay it's quick. I'm thinking it just goes into a standby mode and it takes that few seconds to get it spinning up to speed.

I've had it for a month now and I'm getting bad sectors left right and middle... This is probably the best option for a system drive without having to go the SSD route or with a 15000 RPM drive. Plenty of space to install all of your games and faster than all the competitor's drives of a similar caliber. Haven't had a chance to bench this yet so no stats for now.

sonofjorel Rating: Review Date: 02/22/10	No RAID Support Comment: Avoid this drive if you want to configure a RAID array as the new version of this drive does not support RAID. WD permanently disabled TLER on these drives so it cannot be turned ON or OFF. I bought 4 of these drives for a server build and they were very unstable in a RAID 5 array. The drives I received had DCM ending in AB, BB, CA and none of them could be updated with the WDTLER.exe utility. Needless to say I was very disappointed. :-( A big waste of time for me. I am sure as a standalone drive in a desktop or enclosure it would perform fine. If you want to use a single drive to build a standard desktop this drive is a good choice, it's fast and reliable. I wound up returning these and will buy the WD RE3 instead.

I have noticed a difference between this hard drive and the blue series from western digital. Transfer speeds are faster with the caviar black. So just a note for anyone considering buying the blue series over the caviar black DON'T. Or at least that's my opinion, its very inexpensive (yet not cheap). Would definitely recommend to anyone
