Pros:-Fast-Lots of space-Very well priced. Comment: Some people say that this drive is loud but I have not heard that yet. Maybe be if you put your ear right on the drive it could be a little loud, but your computer shouldn't be that close to you anyways. I found that it's a very fast drive and plenty of storage space for anyone at a great price.

The Green series is the slowest and most energy efficient. The blue is there regular series. The black is there top of the line caviar series. A good drive to have. Lots of people like to buy a few and put them in RAID 0. A good drive until SSDs drop down in price some more. The drive does have a dual processor which may or may not help with performance.I am using it in RAID 0 for better transfer rates.

I would expect it to have a shortened life at these temps Can be loud, needs dampened mounting system. Pros:Good quality, 1TB Comment: I installed this originally in a 3.5" rubber bushing bay in my Antec case. Reasonably quiet, but running hot. I moved it to a 5.25" bay with metal brackets to make more room and improve airflow for my CPU cooler and video card, and became very loud without the bushings. Settles into an operating temp of about 45C - this is with empty bays above and below. Definitely slows down when hot. I am getting an Ultra Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler for it which includes good a good rubber bushing system. Its similar to the Zalman product but has much better cooling reviews.Hint: several venders are bundling this combination. Do not expect a long life without cooling on this drive.

This is a pretty fast and quiet drive IMHO. I'm using this as an OS drive for now until SSD will replace it for storage. I'm very happy with this drive for now.

Comment: I used this drive for 7 months. Had it continued to operate, I would have gladly given it 4 stars. It was fast, though a big loud, and certainly satisfied my desire to have 1 TB of space.Unfortunately, its performance started to deteriorate after about 6 months. First, my filesystem started reporting corruption issues. Then, I started experiencing read-write errors, and painfully long waiting periods for files to write. Finally, my computer refused to even advance to the bios screen so long as this drive was still connected.Dead Drive after 7 months == Completely Unsatisfactory.

Grozzy Rating: Review Date: 05/04/10	Good product, excellent performance Comment: I have been using a WD external 250GB drive for backup storage and I purchased this drive as a mass internal storage--it works perfectly. Based on some of the reviews I read here I used it that way instead of as my primary drive and am still using my 60GB drive for my OS. I have had this drive for a couple of weeks and so far it's performance has been flawless. It was easy to install and I was able to get it formatted to NTFS relatively quickly. Very happy with this and would definitely recommend this drive.

In this age of sophisticated drives, I never thought for a moment that I would even hear it working since most of my drives are pretty much silent nowadays. This one is not. There is no whining like the old drives but there is a clicking you can hear. Also, the drive is hot to the touch. The WD Green drive I have is warm but not hot to the touch.
BobM Rating: Review Date: 04/23/10	Very Impressive for a Non RAID Drive Comment: Installed as an only drive. Very fast. HD Tach states that Outer read speed is about 116 and Inner of about 70. What I like the most is 12.0 ms seek time. For a drive this big, the seek time is fast. Most 1 TB drives and larger are now close to 15 ms seek time and it looks like the industry is getting slower with the bigger platters. Had it installed and was installing Windows 7 within a matter of about 15 minutes. WD has been turning out some GREAT products over the past few years, and this drive is proof of that. this company has one of the best prices for this drive around. If you want a great drive and a lot of room...go for it!
