Cons:No TLERLimited performance

Pros:QuietReasonable performance for bulk storageInexpensive
Comment:
I have 8 of these in RAID-6 on my Areca ARC-1222 controller. Lack of TLER may be a sticking point for some, but has never been an issue for me with this controller. The drives are noticably quieter than my WD Black.

Comment:
I bought this to replace an HDD older Western Digital 2TB (32MB Cache) drive. It is currently transferring 1.55TB of data at a rate of 79.8 MB/s - this consisting of Movies, Series, Documentaries, Games and applications. So far everything is golden!

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Have to run WDIDLE.

Pros:Very quiet. Good value.
Comment:
Very good drive as I am running 3 of them in my ubuntu linux software raid 5. I did use the WDIDLE utility to set the idle timer to 5 minutes instead of the default, which is too short for most uses (linux in my case). The drives are much more quiet and cooler than my system drive (PATA Maxtor 160GB). I would buy again (and probably will once I run out of space again).

Cons:- Noisier than my Seagate drives- Runs tad bit hotter than Seagate LP drives

Pros:- Reliable HD- Great Throughput
Comment:
I have 5 of these split between my gaming rig and WHS server. Very durable and solid. My green drives are a tad bit noisier and it runs a bit hotter than the LP drives (about 1-2C hotter) but works like a champ.Ive already have RMA'd my LP drives twice and i have yet to have problem with these drives (knock on wood).Ive had my fair share of SG and WD, but now that the prices has gone down ($69.99 on sale) i am definitely purchasing more of these and replacing my LP drives to fit my WHS server.

Cons:Not Particularly FastPower Saving spin down is annoying

Pros:CheapLarge Capacity
Comment:
What can I say? It's a 2TB HDD, it worked great as soon as I plugged it in. It's awesome as a backup drive but obviously I wouldn't recommend it as a boot drive. It has some kind of power saving feature where it spins down when not in use, which is kinda annoying because every time i try to access it I need to wait for it to spin back up. That's my only gripe. Oh, and it makes funny noises sometimes. It seems to be significantly louder than my 1TB 7200rpm Seagate Drives.

Comment:
Maybe I have had extraordinary luck, but I have owned over 30 WD hard drives in my life and I have never had one fail.I have several of these 2TB greens and when coupled with a docking station, they make burning discs a thing of the past; good riddance! These things are huge and can store years of data so be careful to put your most vital data in more than just one place. 2TB of data loss to a hardware failure or virus would be very frustrating.

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Drive is shipped without jumper

Pros:Inexpensive relative to capacity
Comment:
The main points of this drive are well documented. It's not the fastest drive, isn't rated for the longest life cycle, has become part of a commoditized part of the market with stiff competition, and is part of the new generation of Advance Format drives. It's the last part that *could* be an issue.Install this bit of kit in a modern system and the drive drops in and goes. If you're trying to use it in an older setup note that you'll either have to run the alignment tool to get it to work properly (if that's possible) or jumper some pins on the back of it. That's probably the easiest way to handle the situation, but this drive doesn't ship with any jumpers. If you haven't got some old equipment with jumpers lying around, good luck digging them up in this day and age. Shame on Western Digital for skimping on a piece that could make the user experience much more straightforward. The penny it’s saved them could cost you some hassle.

Cons:None

Pros:Price ($70 PM'd), capacity, runs cool and quiet, steady 78 MB/sec transfer rate from another WD Green 1.5 HDD
Comment:
Purchased this to go along with my WD Green 1.5 TB 32MB Cache, and I couldn't be happier. When transferring from the 1.5 to the 2.0, there was a solid 78 MB/sec transfer rate of large files (4GB+).Installed on Windows 7 as a storage drive, so no special formatting required, just plugged it in and it worked as intended.Highly recommended for a storage drive.

Pros:Storage space. noise.
Comment:
This is one of the best drive if you need massive storage space. Speed is not really bad, from 130mb/s to 80mb/s, but Latency is really not good at more than 18msDrive run pretty cool and have low noise emission.Worked out of the box on Windows Seven x64 and has been transferred to windows XP with also seem to work out of the box.The drive have been used on a Xeon e3110 4gb of ram with a Asus Maximus board (X38)The drive as been used on an Opteron 148, 2gb of ram with a a8n-vm csn (Nforce 4)

Comment:
I bought several of these hard drives for me and my customers and never got a complaint from them, I love the western digital hard drives for the price and durability. I had a few brands of hard drives before and the only one that lasts the longest is those western digital, the oldest western digital drive I have is about 9 years old and still in great shape, no bad clusters and no defects and it outlasted all my other drives.

Cons:A few DB louder than my Seagates.

Pros:Good I/O performance, response time, and throughput.
Comment:
This drive can handle quite a workload. When used on my HDTV PVR it can easily juggle recording two 1080i HD TV shows while playing back a third simultaneously without skipping a beat, even when 5 bar fast forwarding (3 mins video / sec). Not too shabby considering its 5400rpm rated platter rotational speed. I guess perpendicular storage technology can deceive even the best of us.

Cons:Drive alignment is tricky and unaligned performance is horrible. Some compatibility issues with Promise Sata300 TX4.

Pros:Good price, large size, fast sequential transfers (achieves 126MB/sec spec).
Comment:
I bought 2 of these for use with Server 2003 and a Promise Sata300 TX4 in an old machine. It has been a long and frustrating process getting these to work. However, under ideal conditions (modern motherboard + Windows 7), I have no doubt that these drives would be excellent. My experiences:-Test system has G33 + ICH7. Old Intel storage drivers caused everything above 1024GB to be unreadable (not the drive's fault).-I knew about high load cycle count before buying. These drives were set to park after 8 seconds. wdidle3.exe worked fine to change this timer higher.-I knew about 4k sectors before buying. Unfortunately, this drive only reports 512 byte sectors; it would be nice to have a jumper / setting for it to report 4k sectors properly.-Provided WD alignment tools don't support Server 2003 and/or don't support aligning dynamic disks. In the end, I managed to get it to work by creating and aligning basic partitions, then converting to dynamic. Windows 7/2008 diskpart.exe is so much better than XP/2003 in this respect.-Free and pay tools generally don't support aligning dynamic disks (although I didn't try Linux). :(-The Promise card seems to lose connection with these disks under heavy load (not the drive's fault?)In summary, there can be a lot of 'considerations' with these drives.

Pros:Large CapacityInexpensiveGreat for Media Storage
Comment:
I've had one of these for over 4 months now. It originally came inside an external HDD which I tore apart and threw in my new build for better transfer speeds vs. USB. Purchased second drive one month ago. This one however had a bad sector and needed to be RMA back to NCIX.Great for media storage and although slower than some drives haven't found any HD content that bottlenecks thusfar. A great buy.
