-It worked instantly when installed. -Large drive size for modest cost. -Nothing at all that is apparent at this time. -This drive took a while to run a low level format on. I suspect that it was just due to the immense size of it.-I'm not sure about how the complete "Green" factor is going to impact the life of the drive. I just hope it outlives the "green" fad...

Quickly, Solid & Stable Drive with lots of Space. You want to run the WD drive alignment utility prior to you use it to ensure it runs effectively. Its been going powerful now for over 9 months. Was a bit worried with this model but as long as you run the alignment utility you will be fine.

The HD is working fine. I ordered this from Newegg on a Thursday about three PM and received it on Friday about three. I by no means expected one day delivery. Thanks. None As with any significant drive, there is a lot to be performed. The physical install, then finding the computer system to recognize it (no huge deal), then formatting it takes a long time, and last, copying all the files to it, that takes really a whilst. Almost everything went quite well with this drive, no surprises or problems.

2Tb HDD for ๠, it's green and has low power consumption. Nice sufficient to even have instructions on it for what to do to install if you nevertheless run a 32bit Win XP OS. um...it wasn't totally free?? =) Purchased this to replace the THIRD Hitachi drive that died in an external HDD enclosure of mine. Really like it, fit in perfectly, pretty light weight. Hooked it up to my machine by way of USB 2. did a Windows Quick Format (since the standard is pointless un-much less you want to waste 20 hours of your life) and it functions like a charm. I adore WD, I personal ten drives total across all of my machines. Some drives are going on 7 years old, and more than that time I've only ever had 1 drive die.

Drives are affordable, will probably function nicely once you get operating drives. I recently ordered 6 of these drives to setup in a linux storage box (software raid-6). The very first shipment arrived with quite a few of the drives physically damaged before opening, clear evidence of becoming mishandled Before shipping. One drive had the SATA connection broken at the drive, a number of had smashed corners.Out of the six initial drives the a single with the broken SATA connector wouldn't function at all, two drives failed within 48 hours. I opted to RMA the entire set due to clear mishandling. The next set of six arrived nevertheless with evidence of mishandling, although to a lesser degree. All drives work out of the box, nevertheless soon after much less than a day of testing a single drive has a considerable quantity of bad sectors and drops its connection consistently, this drive will need to have to be RMA'd once again. The other 5 drives seem to be operating (great I will add), another week of testing to be certain.Only two eggs simply because of the hassle... Ahead of setting up these drives, read up on advanced sector formatting, there is a wealth of details on the internets.I initially tried setting mdadm to raid the bare drives which ending up with some efficiency concerns (did not have correctly aligned sectors). I switched to manually making partitions and fdisk picked up the right sector offset (used fdisk -u flag for each drive and created a generic partition). The setup mdadm with the partitions, at the moment can read at about 90MB/s and write at about 35-40MB/s across the network on a degraded 6 drive array (because of the single failed drive). I assume this is mainly CPU limited Ɠ.2Ghz P4 xeon with HT).Tends to make it a bit much more complicated to setup, Windows users almost certainly don't want to know anything.

Low cost - excellent for the dollars - Bought 2 - 1 still going fine other died on day 29. The operating one is performing incredibly well and is as advertized. Started hanging up - taking extended read times then faild. pulled and tested took extremely extended to accept drive. Was partitioned into 4 2 would read 1 not at all 1 hungup. tried to copy what could be read - got some back. May possibly be a fluke to get a poor one so I bought yet another one and will see what occurs.

Pros:Very fast Huge amout of space
Comment:
It is a very good product but be sure you wait for a special. If not I find it kind of pricy. My PC boots in less than 20 seconds. One thing to worry is the huge space, if it crashes you might lose a lot of information. I find it very silent also compared to my old hard disk.

I have more than 50 of the 2tb drives with no failures. They are utilized primarily for A/V storage. With so quite a fewdrives power is an problem so the green function is avery good thing. I gan transfer 60-70MBps across the network Win7 to Win7. None. So far I only had 1 WD drive fail and it was theblack series...go figure. At these rates I don't doraid but just mirror drives. It's less expensive that backingup to DVD. The WD RMA method is simple and rapid. It will take alot to get me to switch brands. I amwaiting for the 10TB drives now.

Low cost. Does not create considerably heat. Appears to ramp up to speed. I had quite a few 1 TB WD Green and the transfer speed is there from the start. I brought five drives and 2 was DOA. I would nevertheless get these if I need far more space. I'll just have to deal with the probabilities of having DOAs. My 1 TB WD Greens has been quite dependable, so I hope the exact same here.

the biggest pro is the spin speed for these 2TB drives 񣆌rpm), for the space, its the fastest readily available at this time though still spending under 贄 Purchased five of these for a RAID Technique, had one particular that gave errors on startup and had to RMA it back to newegg, new one works fine and all are operating wonderful at this time. Total RAID-10 Storage is 8TB... This is not a drive you want for a main program drive. A spin of 7200rpm you require if you do alot of gaming or intensive CPU/Data tasks. At this time, most of these form HD's are 1TB or smaller.

Purchased it as a third drive in case one fails in my Raid1 Buffalo NAS 2x2TB trigger that's what it came with. Formatted and burned in for 2 weeks with out challenge. Runs really cool and quiet. None at two weeks. Haven't had great luck with the older model 1TB Greens just before but the Blacks have been great long term. I am hoping that the 2TBs are consistently good.

In my knowledge, it is a dependable drive with a truly affordable $/gb. It is absolutely a great selection for permanent or high volume information storage for desktop computer's. 5400 rpm turned out to really feel actually slow. I wouldn't advise this as a primary drive for the OS or apps. Games and multitasking felt bottle-necked to a certain extent. It is a worthwhile drive for for its purpose. It runs cool and on low energy. For casual users interested in a big hdd, its perfect. Ideal now, mine's unplugged while I run on a smaller and considerably faster drive.

Cons:Takes a few seconds to spin up

Pros:Price, when on sale
Comment:
I have bought about 6 of these drives, and they are quiet and a good price when on sale. The only issue I have is that these drives will spin down when idle, and take a 10 seconds or so to spin up again when being accessed in Windows. However, this issue only occurs after prolonged idle periods (e.g. maybe 30 minutes), and so does not affect regular use.

Pros:-Price (LOL)-Noise levels
Comment:
I got this back in July for (get this) about $60... now it's over $200! It was one of those warehouse grand opening sales. The drive is really quiet, and is currently used to store downloads and stuff in my main rig. I try to keep it mostly for large files, as Greens are not known for their stellar seek speeds.Very good value at the time, even better value now!

Cons:Absolutely NOT recommended as a system drive (drive with Windows installed on), RPM is too slow for this purpose (between 5100 and 5400rpm). 64mb of cache doesn't really have its true purpose on a slow hard disk like this one.

Pros:great storage drive, internal or external
Comment:
A great hard disk to store anything you want, i use 2 of those for storage purpose, one is inside a USB 3.0 external enclosure, and another one is used on a docking station being easy to swap with another hard disk, exactly for storage purpose. Don't buy during this hard disks shortage, way too expensive for nothing, wait until it goes back to normal.
