Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:You need to jumper pins 7 and 8 for Windows XP, and it did not come with a jumper. Stole one off an old card.
Pros:Great Price, Windows XP Formatted to 1863GB or 1.863TB , so not quite 2TB as expected. Comment:
If you are buying this for windows XP you might need to set the jumper if you are using it as 1 large partition. Check if you have the jumper, otherwise make sure you have one kicking around.I own several WD Green drives, no problems.-1 start for not having the jumper. Only required for Windows XP. |

Cons:Did not come with box or installation instructions
Pros:Great Value at Sale Price and Very Quiet Comment:
Using it for back up drive and for storage of large media files. I was initially concerned that it might be much slower then my main drive, but I have yet encounter any situations where this has created a problem for me. It has met all my expectations. |

Cons:Not super fast
Pros:Cheap, lots of space, works well, reliable, quiet, low temperature, "green". Comment:
By one of the best drive manufacturers around, this drive is great for backup drives, storage drives, external drives in enclosures that don't have fans, or if you are looking for a quiet drive.Want something faster, louder, and hotter? Get a Black. |

Comment:
when i very first ordered this drive, not what i wanted, but gots to have, and spending budget was able to go to black side on storage only drive. This is my second WD in virtually 8years; prior to 2002; WD was not great, overheated, and each other one failed. reason for my return, very good reviews, and selection vs. price vs. capacity; WD has far better options. not a VelociRaptor, but its for storage requirements. Obtaining a green drive, i was "gambling" but WD didn't disappoint, this boy is quiet, cool, pretty much motionless; and capacity was to fantastic to pass, spindle could not be 7200+ but as a storage only, not my concern, working with a WD Black 500GB as boot, caches are enormous, transfers on Sata III vs. Sata II is not only noticeable but quicker even on the green drive far better than my sata II seagate at 7200. Raptor would ideally be the way to go, but my budget, just couldn't do it, i'd really like to have 10k boot with 600GB, but if you can't swing it, you get the next ideal factor. WD has proven themselves as reliable; that is every little thing in my company. size vs. cost; this is the way to go. if you like me, don't be scared of green, green is excellent, its still reliable, just not as quickly as the rabbits. |

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:None that I can see.
Pros:Great for storage, which I think is the main purpose of having that drive. Comment:
I ran this drive without any problem for 2, maybe 3 months and then began to have Windows crash, random HD disappearance (not this drive specifically, but more aften than the others), difficulty at detecting the drive on BIOS start up. Well, this drive is slowly dieing. I've always had WD hard drive. One failed after 3 years of usage, the other are still functionning normally, just one also starting to show age sign (5 years I think, 250GB). |

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Speeds (intentional)Warranty (does anyone do 5 years anymore?)
Pros:Price/GBTemperature and volume for platters Comment:
Had an old, old Seagate die on me and I was waiting to upgrade once she left. Loved my WD10EADS and it's now taken a backseat as my external. Using 2xWD20EARS for a primary data and manual mirror drives with a separate root. Great drives, exactly what I wanted for a lower power, quieter, cooler rig. |

Cons:None.
Pros:Cheap, lots of space. Comment:
Bought two of these to put in an OWC Raid Enclosure to store my movies, and man, they rock! Yes, they only run at 5900RPM, but that is more then fast enough for storage, especially having them connected by firewire! Highly recommended. |

I picked a couple of these up for my NAS on sale.I didn't need anything faster, like a Caviar Black, because the NAS itself is the bottleneck. Good price for the capacity.I cannot comment on power usage or speed due to what I am using it for. |

Cons:Not a performance drive, but that's what the Caviar Black line is for.
Pros:2 TBCheapFairly silent Comment:
This HD is an excellent value when on sale. It's intended for storage, and fulfills that job very well. It runs cool and quietly. Now, just to dispel the notion: it works perfectly well with Windows XP. I don't understand what the big deal about running WD Align is: you can just format the disk from Windows as any other, and then run WD Align. Or you can just format from the WD utility. The alignment itself takes just seconds; the formatting part, obviously, many hours (it's 2TB, you know?). No issues whatsoever, no jumper setting, nada. Just read the instructions before installing it. It takes 5 minutes of your time. |

I have been using one of these for a year in my HTPC and have no issues with it so far. It has very decent transfer speeds. I recently picked up another one and installed them both in a Dlink DNS-323.The power savings I am to understand it pretty negligible though. These have been rock solid for me so far and I would buy again. |
