I'm using 3 of these, from different SKUs, as encrypted storage drives. I have a 4th drive that acts as a parity drive using Flexraid. No problems at all despite my heavy use. |

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:- None really
Pros:- Lots of space for very little money Comment:
I bought this as a secondary data only drive. It's a lot of space for very little money. It may not be as fast as some of the other drives, but that doesn't really matter if you're just using it to store data. |

Cons:questionable reliability but all drives have that
Pros:good price, good size Comment:
I have now owned three of these (specific) drives and one of them died randomly on me within a month of purchase. The process to replace it (from WD, not NCIX) was pretty simple but the replacement SKU sent to me has a shorter warranty period so that was an unpleasant surprise. I'll probably buy another couple of these when I need more storage. |

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Not the fastest drive, but it is a green and is meant for storage.
Pros:Lots of space for little money. Bought on sale for 63$. Comment:
This drive gives a good amount of storage space for my media. Fairly silent even in a quiet system. The reason why I bought this drive was because it's WD and it was cheap. |

2TB. Generally speaking a very good manufacturer. Wasn't able to install Vista. Was prosperous with other challenging drives in the similar setup but got an error message that appears to be fairly prevalent. I would have attempted another time at it, but opted for a refund and get a distinct component instead. I won't knock WD considering that this is my first bad drive from them. I'll possibly try this once again in the future, I just decided I'd rather put the dollars towards a GTX 470 rather. |

Cons:Not as high quality as the Black series.
Pros:Inexpensive, quiet, reliable. Great price too. Comment:
Probably the best bang for the buck for 3.5in HDDs. I've used them as a main drive, RAID configs, backup drives, in enclosures and docks. Generally faster than similar Seagates and Hitachi drives. Also fewer problems with WD. |

Large amount of storage.Lower energy consumption.Low price per gigabyte. Not positive I'd use this as a main method drive to to lower speeds, but untested in this regard, so take as you will. I have a pair of these in software program RAID1 for my NAS/media server, and they've been working properly for that purpose. |

Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:-1080p movies take slightly longer to buffer
Pros:-Sturdy-Cheap-Massive Storage-Quiet Comment:
Primarily for a data hard drive (that is to say, no programs or operating systems), I use them for movies and especially big movies from 8-35GB MKVs. They play perfectly which was my initial concern, however it does take a few seconds longer to buffer than a traditional 7200RPM drive (when you're seeking through the movie). Beyond that the hard drive does what it is supposed to, successfully replaced failed Seagate Greens and can't be happier. |

Cons:Not the fastest drive ever. BAD for using for an operating system.
Pros:Large.Quiet. Comment:
These are good drives. I have had 1 DOA though. But it was replaced no big deal. They are fast for their RPM, but do not match up the the Black drive by any means. |

Cons:None for this application
Pros:Fairly quietGood performance for a "green" driveLots of capacity Comment:
I bought two of these for my WHS box. 4TB of storage will do me for a while and these were the best $/TB at the time. I didn't need the higher performance of the Black series which I normally buy, but I am pleased with the performance of these anyway. For a storage drive, these are hard to beat. Plus they are way quieter than the Blacks. |

Cons:doesnt perform like the blacks... but that's not what I got it for
Pros:2TB of storage on sale for $69.99good on the power bill Comment:
Got two of these for media storage for my server on sale for $69.99. Still no failing. I haven't tried raid. I leave the server on 24-7 and access it for media as needed. Runs windows 7 (no need for Windows Server 2008R2 yet) |
I bought 2 of them when they were on sale. The high capacity is nice, but the Green technology is kind of annoying at times. It takes like 2-3 seconds for the thing to rev up and is overall sluggish at browsing files. I've had no problem with video playback though. While I complain about this, it was perfectly known to me when I bought it.
