There really is no need for another review of this router. Every good thing you've read or heard is true. I have struggled for years with every name brand router on the market, wired and then wireless. Why D link was the last I tried, I don't know. But I finally decided to do my homework and buy the right wireless router. I read the reviews and bought this one. The best decision I've ever made. It's been running untouched for a couple of months. I have never had to restart or fuss with it, even on Comcast! It used to be at least once a day with my last router! Steady as a Rock! I love it. Buy it, you will too. p.s. also bought the gigabit adapter and tripled my speed!

I bought this router to replace a Linksys router I had. Less than 45 days later it died. And you would think that you could return it under the warranty right? Well that's not entirely true. You can only return it under warranty if you have the original CD and mounting hardware. The CD is useless as it is a trial of Network Magic so I tossed it. The mounting hardware wasn't needed so I got rid of it. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with D-Link only for them to tell me what I already knew, the router was defective. Now I am out $100 and have to buy a new router. Rest assured it won't be another D-Link product.

Worth its weight in gold! I'm a BroadBand Service Technician and my job is to trouble shoot networks and identify internet problems. I've troubleshot every brand out there as well as tested every brand on the market in my personal network. I will not mention the other brands names but let's just call them Wetgear. Until I found this little bundle of joy I went through 4 diferent ''n'' routers only to deal with constant drops and limited, very limited range and constant reboots. D-Link did very well with this, I was on the verge of dropping N-technology and reverting back to a Linksys WRT-54g, the only other wireless on the market that's worth owning. Stop shopping for a deal and drop the $99.00 on this before you make a mistake and buy something that's crap like a Wetgear or Bulkin!

I've had this router for a year. It is installed in my basement and runs laptops in my third floor. My family has two wired desktop computers, three laptops, a Blackberry, an iPhone, and a wireless printer running through this router without a problem. At the present time, I have only 11g devices on the network. It's a very good router.

Awesome router. Very easy to set up. Accidentally locked myself out of the router when trying to turn on security - the MAC address filter also applies to wired connections. The shareport works beautifully. I would not recommend it for a USB drive (takes too long to connect, and it's not multi-user), but it's fantastic for a printer! Takes hold of the printer on demand, and releases it when your printing task is done, so it effectively DOES make for a multi-user printer. I tried using a USB hub as well, and that worked fine.

I have been using it for 2 days now and my first impressions are very strong. Going from an old useless D 604-I this is a huge step up. Using wireless for an old laptop with wireless G it get's strong reception from the sidewalk outside my house and the router is on the opposite end of the house. I didn't try any further because that was far enough for me. The laptop is 1 floor below me about 40-60 feet away getting a strong signal through walls.It also came with a CAT5e cable to go from your modem to router if your still using old CAT5 which makes a big difference.

I have this router on the second floor of my house and I use it for my laptop and my video game consoles (PS3, Xbox 360). My video game consoles are in the basement and I am able to play online without any lag! Great product!

I have to agree with the majority of reviewers This is an amazing router. My old Netgear died and I wanted an N router for my laptop. I tried Belkin, Linksys and Netgear. All dropped signals and had poor range. This router was easy to setup, has a strong signal through floors and walls and it's FAST. Best Buy also sells this router and it got 4 1/2 stars out of 5 with 99 reviews. Get one now.

Absolutely the best router I have ever owned!!! I have a large two family house and am able to receive an excellent signal all throughout the house from the basement to the roof. I have my Xbox, Wii, two desktops, and two laptops connected and all products connect to the internet without a problem. Setup was a breeze and network magic comes in handy (even though it is only a trail). I have never had to reset the router or have never had it crash on me. I own it for over a year and have not had a problem with it to date. Definitely the best router out there for the money!!!

I've had issues with wireless restarts on this router since day one.If you check out the DLink support forums, you will see that this router accounts for more than 90% of all support posts on that forum.Frankly, they keep screwing up the firmware. The tech engineers own advice for people having problems, is to stick with firmware 1.11. The most current firmware is 1.21... There has been several firmware releases in between, I have used 1.18, and 1.20, but you will not even find these on the dlink site because they were so bad that they have actually removed them. version 1.21 looks like it's heading that way too. I have spent more than 20hrs with dlink support, and haven't been able to solve the problem. (Yes... 20 hrs in over 2 months) I attempted an NCIX RMA, but the NCIX return is only 30 days on this device, and I was a few days late. (my fault, not theirs) Dlink has not been offering an RMA for the wireless restart (there has been a couple reportings, but it has not been narrowed down enough to point to a bug, because the restart is probably just a symptom), because the rest of the router works fine, the router does not restart, wired computers do not disconnect. So I can't even test if it's just a faulty router because they won't send me a replacement. I am now running on a 3com that works fine. Dlink recently dropped their North American tech support contract, in favour of a contract in another country, which is fine, except that DLink makes you pay a fee for their "advanced" tech support. Which is now not very helpful. (Because they haven't been doing support for the router for very long)Overall, it's really only the firmware flaws that make this router a poor purchase, luckily that's something that dlink can fix... hopefully. (Tech support will likely get better as the transition is completed, and the community forums are very helpful)

I've gone through many routers and this is easily the best router I've ever used. I get 130Mbit wireless speeds 2 floors above the router, 1Gbit LAN works perfectly, and QOS system is amazing (except with youtube, it was designed before youtube was popular so you will need to edit QOS so that it doesn't lag your games) I've run this router for well over a year, never once needed to reset and advanced features work perfectly. It's the most solid product I've bough in a long time.

Have had this router for about 3 weeks and so far I have had absolutely no trouble! My original purchase (to replace a failed Linksys WRT350N) was the Linksys WRT310N...Bad mistake!! I have had many troubles with many different Linksys models in the past 5 years. This D-Link DIR-655 was a saving grace to me. The wireless is faster than ever on all G and N devices and I have never had to reboot either!! There are no heat issues with this product either as there were with two of my past Linksys products! I have had up to 5 wireless and 2 lan clients running at the same time with no problem! I recommend this one to anyone! The network magic software that comes with it is a great bonus also!!!!

So this was a replacement router, after going to failed Dlink Wbr 2310, and the ever famous Linksys router with the Linux firmware. And I've got to say, Dlink got something right with this model! Amazing router, probably the best I've had since my original Wired only Linksys router.Solid connection, it has never spontaneously rebooted on me, or required hard reboots. It has worked superbly over the home lan, with 4 laptops, 2 desktops, and 2 xbox systems. All using bandwidth, and streaming large amounts of data/multimedia!I couldn't be more happier with this purchase, I probably won't ever switch routers for the next 10 years.

This was the second 655 I got after returning a previous defective one. All the features looked promising so for my replacement order I ordered the same model. And this one doesn't work either! Could not connect to the internet when I was wireless, while the wired connection could connect just fine. Until an hour later, where the wired connection stopped working as well. Spend a long time on the phone with D-Link support and the final conclusion was that I should return it...again.

I bought this router in November and it has been working very well. It's a nice sleek design with plenty of features. The best part about this router is that it has a USB port on the back which will allow you to connect a 3G usb device, printer, scanner, or usb storage. To do this ou need to upgrade the firmware to the latest one and download their program called SharePort.This feature will allow multiple computers to access the usb device but only one computer at a time. For instance, if your desktop is printing something using the router's usb then your laptop can not access the usb printer connected to the router till your desktop is finished printing and disconnects from the printer. If you need to use the printer there is a button on the program that will send a request to the computer in connected asking the user to disconnect. My only problem is that the LED indicator lights on the front are quite bright and I have to cover the front of the router with a box to keep my room dark

I purchased my DIR-655 in March of 2007. It worked reasonable well until August 2008. when the wireless antenna failed. Wired components worked fine but I got an antenna init fail error message- meaning the router was pretty useless. D-Link support is BRUTAL. Personally I think less than 18 months before product failure is ridiculous and I won't be purchasing another D-link router.

This router replaced my old linksys 100mbit and I am very impressed with it. I haven't had my router reset my connection since I installed it and that was over 2 months ago.

This product is great. Bought it to replace a Netgear router due to issues with an xbox 360 on the network. Problem solved. Will breakdown bandwith evenly between devices so the xbox wont hug all bandwith. Great product.......

I was doing some reserch tonight and came across reviews about the 655 so I thought I would do 1 myself. I picked up the DIR 655 more than 1 1/2 year ago. Paid $225 I got it cause it's Mac, Gigabit, & VPN, compatable. I found that it was easy to set up unlike some of the other reviews said. It probbably took about a hour to set up with network magic.I had no problems at all. Set up everything all 3 of my XP pro wired machines, my Lexmark printer and my old IBM xp laptop. Later on I added a NAS box and a 4 port hub. Yes it did take me a little while to get my new Vista wireless Dell laptop to connest but I think it was more of a prob with the dell then the router. My wife works from home often and uses VPN. She had no prob at all conecting her work laptop. A new T60's IBM with XP pro. 1 and only 1 prob, I got a new Dlink gigabit card for 1 pc the same day and instaled it before the softwear. It didn't work that my fault. Oh and I think its fast and I like it.

I needed to upgrade from my BEFSR41 router to add wireless network ability at home. Was hesitant given my old router was 100% reliable over 6+ years and the reviews of wireless N routers were mixed. Have been using the DIR-655 for 2 weeks, and am very satisfied. The install went pretty smoothly (took a few hours) w/ the included Network Magic setup wizard. Alternately if I knew more about networking I could have bypassed NetWork Magic and waded thru the D-Link menu selections (pretty complicated). This router has been very fast and totally reliable so far. My network has 2 wired connections (Vista & XP PC's), and one wireless Vista laptop. The wired machines are faster now, and the wireless laptop is nearly as fast as the wired. Also DIR-655 somehow fixed some e-mail & internet connection problems on the wired Vista PC (my old router was pre-Vista). The DIR-655 USB printer jack is maybe only for network-ready printers - my two older Cannons don't work there.

I guess d-link and I are not meant for each other. I purchased the DWA-142 with this router. Very bad experience. I could not find the value so many others have testified to.

I was very excited to get this new router to replace an old airport b device. I had some difficulty in setting it up, so I called on D-Link tech support, but they were completely useless. So after they sent me away without resolving my problem, I did some research and was able to make all of the computers and consoles in my network connect, and it was magical, for a minute. I was actually getting faster internet throughput wirelessly than what I was getting wired! However, the connection became unstable and the internet speed would drop from around 7mbps down to 300kbps for no reason. This product lacks consistency and is not reliable in my experience. I have no interest in calling Dlink again to be told that since I have a connection, the product is working. I am in the process of returning now. Thanks for wasting my time D-link.

I love this thing, my wireless internet is so much faster, I was skeptical at first because of the "D-Link" brand, because of what people have said of it, I was going to get a linksys but this was definitely the better choice.

Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The wireless signal has great range and speeds. Transfering files from my desktop to laptop is done very quickly!Overall I would reccomend this to anyone!
