Uncomplicated manual setup. Lots of options to configure. Speed of wireless superior. Vibrant LED display. Range no better then 4 year old Belkin G router. Does not support DD-WRT fireware updates. In no way looked at setup disc. Very easy to setup as access point. primarily got for gigabit switch function to speed up LAN.

I've had this router for more than 3 years and it's still operating like a champ. Like others, I was using a linksys just before this that would continuously drop connection and have address conflicts. I currently have this connected to a desktop, laptop, ps3, xbox 360, smartphone, and psp all wirelessly. It handles them all effortlessly. In all the time I've had this, the wireless connection has been rock solid...if only the exact same could be mentioned for my ISP. Considerably more affordable now than when I picked it up a handful of years ago.

This is replacing a DGL-4300, which is an outstanding router. Cause I needed to upgrade - The DGL-4300 seemed to have trouble connecting additional than four or five wireless connections at after. The DIR-655 has fixed that, no matters now. We have four iPhones, and 2 laptops and all connect up no issue. Also browsing the world wide web from a wireless connection is noticeably much more responsive. I do not have any Wireless-N devices, but the Wireless-G signal seems to be slightly less then the DGL-4300 that I had. I may try obtaining longer antennas to attempt to get the range up a bit. Uncomplicated setup, would have liked to see the antennas longer, or a stronger signal on the wireless-G.But it does perform very good.

1gb LAN ThroughputComprehensive Menus and OptionsDecent Help MenusQoS Engine Odd overall performance problems leading to rebootsConnections status doesn't show up to date information for all devices So, I'm coming from a WRT54GL, which is in all probability the most strong router out there. Anything else I've utilised more than the years, regardless of brand, has had its share of complications.Coming from the WRT, I was hoping to maintain strong overall performance, while also gaining Gigabit Ethernet ports, Wirless N connectivity and a far better menu technique. So far, I've gotten some of that. QoS appears to be greater suitable out of the box (no tweaking) and LAN overall performance appears strong. On the other hand, I've had a handful of gremlins in the wireless efficiency and it appears that I may be in for occasional reboots to fix the challenge. This is incredibly annoying immediately after By no means rebooting my old WRT54GS.I'm not producing any rash decisions yet, but if the need to reboot sticks about and is not fixed by firmware upgrades, I may possibly have to get rid of it. I have as well several connected devices and customers to mess around with silly stuff like reboots when there is a issue. Also, wireless signal is not as sturdy as advertised, if that matter

I have often utilized d-hyperlink routers, and adore the brand. This is a great router and really quickly! Gigabit networking functions great for file transfers in the network. Immediately after about a year of heavy use the router has began to have random disconnects that require me to reboot the device. It appears that employing p2p is also much for this router more than time.

Straightforward setup, no problems with my household that has 9 wired and 11 wireless devices. The software setup didn't import my old router settings. That didn't actually matter also a lot considering that I was creating a lot of alterations anyway to my DHCP settings. My earlier router was a D-Link DG-4300 which was also superb. I decided to move up to N and this router absolutely elevated my signal strength and throughput. Previously I would get stutter when streaming DVDs or AVIs wirelessly, now it works with no a flaw.

* Ultimately connects* Can sort a number of ports and ranges when forwarding without restarting* Isn't ugly* Quickly when it works * Web pages take forever to alter amongst menus.* Changing anything takes a minimum of 20 seconds and a maximum of 60 seconds.* MAC filtering filters wired connections as well... which is merely stupid.* Connecting any pc, wirelessly or wired, nearly always needs a energy cycle.* not too long ago lost connection randomly requiring a length power cycle dance. In all fairness, I suppose it's decent if you evaluate it to the mass of worthless routers accessible currently. Reliability just isn't one thing routers do. If you don't think me, try discovering a router that doesn't have a substantial quantity of 1s compared to 5s.I believed this one particular would have been a safe choice, but I supposed I'll just acquire the least expensive router attainable next time. I don't will need to devote ๖ a year on routers when they at some point [censor] out. D-Link isn't the only a single. Netgear (had two, each sucked), linksys (had one... sucked), and D-Link (this is my second, it sucks) all appear to be equally unreliable.Maybe I'll try an enterprise grade router next time about just for fun.....

Gigabit LAN and WAN. Boosted download speeds to my wired connections. A lot of configuration selections. Wireless is poor; with my WRT54G, I got solid 54Mbps connections on my wireless N card. Because switching to this router I get among 39 and 54Mbps on the exact same device (this is immediately after setting recommended configs on router and wireless-N card). This 'upgrade' appears to be a downgrade.Creating any modifications in the internet GUI results in a 20 second page refresh. Some setting adjustments call for a reboot, and the device reboots without having warning or adjust to cancel. The status lights are large and ridiculously bright blue. I had to move it out of sight mainly because it was so annoying. Not open source, so no possibilities for other firmware (like Tomato, or dd-wrt). I'll be sending this router back. I didn't anticipate to get the advertised 300Mpbs speeds on my wireless-N cards, but I did expect to get greater than 52Mbps speeds. Right after days of tweaking, I was in no way in a position to get far better wireless speeds than on my old WRT54G router. If anything, this router was a downgrade.

Worked perfectly out of the box. Setup took minutes. In the ten months considering that acquire, it has worked flawlessly. I reside in a big old hotel & from one particular end to one more it's about 60 ft via numerous walls, like an exterior wall. I get great WLAN reception throughout for the initially time with this router, which is at 1 finish. There are np amp None that I've identified. This is my 4th d-link router & second wireless router, the first was yet another brand. This a single was far much easier to setup, adjust settings & has far much better reception.

I use it in bridged mode with my At&T connection and get good connection speeds by means of the LAN or wireless. Very good wireless connections with my wireless devices, never had a signal drop. Use the wireless with my XBOX360 to play on the web and no noticable packetloss or lag. Pretty simple and intuitive internet UI for port forwarding and so forth. Occasionally requirements a complete power down and reset (about 2 instances a week). Only factor keeping me from placing this at 5 stars. No custom firmware assistance. Dlink doesn't appear to be addressing the reboot difficulty. Also this is only single-band. Fairly challenging to uncover a decent router these days for whatever cause. If you are gonna put this factor in a challenging to reach location may possibly want to believe about a various model since it does need resetting each now and then. Other than that, if you don't thoughts undertaking a manual reset the performance is genuinely fairly solid and must be a excellent router for apartments and homes as lengthy as you don't have a bunch of users connecting simultaneously.

Looks good Drops wifi connections consistantly continually. Like annoying!! Works for a second, then stops operating for a second. I've checked the logs, turned off QoS, double checked everything, and this is just unacceptable. It shipped with the most up-to-date firmware, but a rapid online search shows that this may possibly be exactly where the problem lies. Search for dir-655 dropping connections or comparable, there are a lot of people possessing this situation. I've switched from a L router that was brilliant, but when each day or two it would drop connections for a maybe ten seconds, but a speedy restart would repair it, or patience and it would work again. It was bearable but kind of annoying. So I try this 1, wow, what a mistake...

Cons:-wifi broadcast  signal range seemed the same as my old Linksys WRT54G

Pros:-fairly easy to setup-perfect for the home/small office user-lots of options you can set, way better than my WRT54G
Comment:
My previous WRT54G was starting to fail on me, this was a perfect replacement for it. Loads of features and port forwarding options turned me onto this unit, as well as many of the advertised features. The only complaint I have is that the broadcast  signal range seemed about the same as my old router, I was hoping this would broadcast  significantly stronger but it's not a big issue.
