D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router

This router is awesome. I decided to purchase this router because of numerous reviews that I have read from other websites that emphasize how fast this thing is. I immediately upgraded the firmware to the newest version when I received it. I noticed an incredible speed difference when connected to my desktop via ethernet due to the 1gb output. The wireless output is awesome. I have had numerous routers the past few years and I never experienced a router that is as fast as this one and with a very strong signal. I have a single story 1,900 foot home. I used to receive around 65%-85% signal with my previous routers when I was in the opposite side of the house. I am now receiving 95%-100% signal! The two things that I do not like about this router is that it does not currently support FTP and the lights are an extremely bright annoying blue.

I have two of these installed and, so far, both work flawlessly. Zippier than the DI-624's they replaced. Easy to setup and program, especially if you are familiar with the setup on earlier D-Link wireless products. The best thing, however, is the Qos feature. I had been having trouble for months sending fax over Vonage fax lines. Only had about a 75% success rate and then with the send speed set not to exceed 9600. I now get 100% success with the send speed set at 14400. Very satisfied.

Wow -- Where to begin with this router. I love its features, i love its range but most of all i love the GB ethernet ports. I had my doubts about it but WOW, i was able to transfer 50 GB of files in less the 30 minutes (averaging more then 45 MBS). Even for my Sony laptop running G i was able to pick up the signal from about 50 feet from the house. Overall i think that this router is worth every penny you spend if you want a fast and reliable router

One of the few Gigabit wireless-N options out there right now. Replaced a 10/100 wireless-G Linksys.We haven't put it to the test but it configured flawlessly and is performing well. I really appreciated all the configuration options, you can configure almost anything you need to; the old router wouldn't reserve an IP address, for example.Recommended.

I bought this router to use with my X-Box 360.It worked great out of the box.It works great with my PC and even better with my Mac.I run a Synology NAS on it as well (DS-107E)My only complaint is the admin interface can be complex if you're not a networking expert. You can try a demo of the admin interface on the manufacturer's site.

I bought this to replace an old US Robotics router that had served me well for many years. Setting it up was easy enough once you get over the intimidation factor of all the options available in the setup menu. I've been using it for a few days now and it's been very fast and stable and the wireless signal is excellent anywhere in my house. Initially I had some problems with interference from my cordless phones but that was quickly solved by changing the channel from the default #6 to #11. The only reason I mention this is because my old router never had an issue with my cordless phones. Overall I'm very satisfied with the router. Recommended!

I replaced an old linksys router with this one...hoping to increase the wireless range on my deck. This router is installed on the second floor of my house and range is excellent into my yard and deck. So far I haven't experienced any frequent disconnect/reconnects like I did with my linksys. I setup WPA security and connect with both my laptop and PDA...no problems. My HTPC is wired directly. So far so good!By the way, I didn't even try to use the accompanying CD for install...just went right to the GUI. This review was modfied by poster @ 08-23-07 05:10 AM

After my old D-Link router 604 die out after 5 years of usage, I look no further and pick another D-Link router. It is very easy to set up. The interface is very clear and simple to understand.I tried to test its so called QoS and it works as described. I have 3 computers set up on this router and there's no drop whatsoever on connection.The only thing I would complain is those LED lights. They are not only bright but also very "flashy". I have to hide it somewhere I couldn't see those lights.

I have tried just about every brand of router now. I just upgraded from the Linksys WRT54GS. I bought a WRT300N and this dlink router. It kills the range EVEN WITH G of a Linksys ANYDAY!! RECOMMEND THIS ROUTER!!

(VOIP)This Router was easy to hookup, even with little knowledge of networking. Now, if you have the knowledge, it has a ton of features. I played around with different settings until I tweaked to peak VOIP service, and torrent downloads. This is the only router that phone calls remained clear while downloading a torrent at 200kbs. Never used a Dlink product before, but I really like this router.

The installation was tough. The wizard on CD didn't work at all so I had to phone the tech and had to install manually. Other than that, every good routeur!.

WOW, I upgraded this router from a SMC barricade that I have used for quite some time. This Dlink router is awsome. Setup was a snap it took only a few minutes, even without using the provided software. There are so many positive comments I can make about this router I dont know where to begin. Wired access is extra fast if you have a 1gb network card. Wireless coverage is GREAT, it covers my entire house and most of my yard. After changing to this router my ping to my ARMA server went from 40s-60s to the 20s. You are very secure behind this router's firewall. Another great feature that I like is the router's logging ability. It pretty much gets everything also most as good as a dedicated IDS system. This router is well worth the cost!

Had this unit for about a month now. A bit disappointed with the range. I am running the router and DSL modem in the basement and my desktop (with a DLink PCI 802.11n Extreme card) on the second floor is showing 3 out of 4 bars, not much better than my old SMC 802.11b router that this unit replaced - so much for the increase range of 802.11 n. Works OK in 802.11g mode with my laptop - getting max signal on the first floor. Set up was very easy, but the manual on CD is not much good. I am running Sympatico DSL for internet access and the DLink seems to drop the PPoE connection every few days (even though the setting is set to never timeout), requiring either a re-boot of the router or even a reset of the modem. This never happend with my old router. I am also having problems occasionally with connection on on my son's desktop if SSID is set to not broadcast. All in all, I can't say that, $170+ later, I am enjoying better performance than my 5 year old SMC router.

This has to be the best wireless router ever. I've never been a big fan of D-Link until today. The instructions come on CD but is completely worthless. Download the instructions from the web site, it is completely detailed out. I'm on an AT&T DSL with 4 computers, 2 of which are crazy kids downloading, and one XBOX. My download speeds direct to my modem is 6 gigs, my linksys router sees 3 gigs on a good day, but with the D-Link I get almost the full 6 gigs thanks to the QOS technology... Now other features that are great for a family. Point and Click assign IP back Mac addressed logs, web filters, port filtering, logs of content being surfed, etc... Dynamic DNS services is really cool... Email Alerts Secheduled Events The list goes on, you have complete control of your network with the added bonus of no loss speed thanks to QOS. I almost forgot, the security is incredible supporting everything old all the way up to WAP2

Very pleased that I purchased this router. Easy set-up, reasonable price considering the technology. The router is hooked up in my home office which is on the far side of the house. My laptop is used about 35 yards away and picks up a ''good'' signal. No range problems here. It was not difficult to set up security and the D-link tech support was courteous and knowledgable. I would gladly purchase this one again and recommend it without hesitation.

This router is wicked.I had no problems setting this router up. The GUI wasn't super intuitive but once you got the hang of it, it was very easy to use.I replaced my dlink 624 wireless G router with this one because it kept dropping me offline. I was a little hesitant in buying another dlink router because of my experience with the 624, but I have no regrets now. My internet connection hasn't dropped once since i installed this router. All the security features (mac filtering, assigned DNS, port forwarding and virtual servers) were extremely easy to set upI bought my laptop about 2 or 3 years ago so it doesnt' have wireless N, but the range of this wireless router is amazing. Before i was unable to go outside of my room with the wireless laptop, now i can go all over my house with my laptop and it works fla

I got this one to network my house for 3 computers, all for gaming. i'm running a 5mb down speed. This thing is easy to install.. The LeD's arnt bright like all reviews say, I expected, more range from from wireless N and for the price only getting 2 bars and not ever 20yards away, same floor just different room with Xtreme Pci card. Overall i give this a 4 star.

works great except that the 'network magic' software wanted me to hard wire my computer to the router to set it up. that might be easy in a new installation but, i was not about to schlep my desktop downstairs...
