D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router

Even though it's just a Draft, I find the product great in the Coverage area with its multiple Antennas (MIMO). The latest driver for Vista fixed some of the previous issues that this router had. It does get very hot, however. It's a solid router, but unless you are desperate of its 240+ Mb/s Local network Bandwidth. I would wait for the Real Wireless-N.

I have been in possession of a small number of routers in my time - all of which have been disappointing until I bought the DIR-655. This device is SOLID - easily the most noticeable Internet to LAN throughput improvement I have ever had from a single device. Not one system on my home network even phases this device. Conveniently, the device is also recognized by dyndns.org - invaluable if you want to host services from home. Many routers have the option, but this is a supported feature.

Bought this to replace a Linksys WRT-54G; since my 3 wired systems now have Gigabit ethernet I wanted to switch over to a supported router, plus my wife uses a computer in a corner office that is on a 802.11G connection. This router made a HUGE improvement all around, especially with the wireless - now getting constant 54mb/excellent signal. The web-based config on the DIR-655 did take some getting used to in comparison to the ''idiot-proof'' Linksys. You CAN screw up your connections with this DLink if you get the settings wrong. Thankfully, like the Linksys, the DIR-655 lets you back up a working config to a file for easy restoration if you mess up. Highly recommended!

Took it back to store and got my refundDidn't buy here.This is the second try at this model. Same issues again.was a V3 with 1.11 FW our old DGL-4300 walks around it easily with no issues like the DIR-655.So no it ain't the ISP.look at the newer FW issues at forums to they pulled off the newest after 1.11 already.

I pair it up with DLink DWA 552. and now, I wonder why I would bother read so many reviews on internet. the range is far and signal is strong (on same distance and same locations, the signal is 10~15% stronger than my old Dir625)I think most of people would be satisfied with DIR625. but if you have someone to share the connection across a busy street, i suggest to go for DIR 655

I got this router which worked fine for several days. Then out of the blue the router started to reboot sporadically and randomly - one to more times daily. I would lose all connections wired + wireless killing my VPN connection to work and downloads. It even once went into an endless reboot cycle for over 30 minutes until I unplugged and hard reset it. This was an A3 router with latest firmware 1.11 and I was coming from a WRT54GL w/ Tomato firmware (I gave it away so I decided to upgrade to wireless N)Scouring the official D-link forums and other internet forums showed many others with similar problems with no resolution other than changing wireless channels/options or disabling wireless completely. Nothing would work in my case (other than disabling wireless which is a piss poor option) and upon speaking with D-Link support several times for multiple hours (even after they had me reset and reflash the router or forcing 100mbps LAN speed which I told them I had done multiple times - I also tried later beta firmware) they told me to return it to the store. I will NEVER buy another d-link router again with this pathetic excuse of a product.

Installed and set up in 20 minutes. Connected to 2 wireless computers, 2 wired computers, a D-Link gigabit switch, a Maxtor Fusion 500 GB Network Storage, and 2 print servers. It has been working flawlessly for a couple of weeks!

If you only want a speed for you wireless then this is the one. Easy set up. However, the features of of this router are not work. If you try to do schedule and access control then you are out of luck. It will screw you up big time. My recommend to speed up you wireless you don't want to pay for this much.

I've had this for about 6 months now. I went from a DI-524 to the DIR-655. This is alot faster router even when you connect G devices to it. I run 2 Vista machines, 1 XP machine, Iphone and wireless printer through this router. Doesn't ever seem to slow down even with multiple users connected to it. At first I was only ok with this router, but as the firmware updates and vista updates, have come online, stability and speed have really improved. I would definately recomend this router now, just make sure you have the latest firmware updates from their site.

this thing works great this is my first time seting up a network and I had no problems at all the only thing that wasent so great was that the instalation cd dident work but it has a manual set up that involves your modem other than that every thing is great

This router may work great once it's set up but getting it going was a nightmare and a waste of a beautiful Sunday afternoon and evening! I've set up a lot of routers over the years and D-Link models always give me problems. This one replaced a Linksys WRT54G and wouldn't allow internet access despite my friend's repeated calls to technical support. When I arrived I shut everything down and at least got internet access upon restart. Setting up a mix of B\G\N wireless access was almost impossible. Despite following the wizards and trying the manual config it took forever to get things working. Not like a Linksys router at all. Then we made the mistake of moving the router to another room and lost all the wireless configurations. Another call to D-Link led to an obscure check box that had to be disabled before it all worked again. There's more but I've run out of space. Just a horrible product. Stay away. Buy Linksys!!

I purchased the D-Link DIR-655 two months ago to replace a D-Link DI-624. The DI-624 can only handle about 200 simultaneous connections from torrents before it reboots. The DIR-655 can handle anything. The DIR-655 is rock solid. I like the gigabit connection. I do not connect by wireless very often. However, I tested the wireless connection at 802.11g and it works fine. Someone else will have to comment on the 802.11n wireless connection. This router has premium features like QOS settings. I am not be concerned about the Draft-N status. You cannot wait forever for the draft status to change. The draft is very likely to become the standard. Setup was easy. I used the CD as a guide. I upgraded the firmware version. The Network Magic software loses most of its features after a 30-day trial. The router was delivered quickly. I highly recommend this router to anyone who wants a trouble-free experience.

It was a breeze to setup. I did setup manually and didn't use the CD, as I find generally those "Wizards" just complicate things. I find that is had all the settings an enthusiast would need, and they were easy to find and work with. The speed of the wireless was pretty good, and the gigibit ethernet (which is why I bought it) was fantastic. All the reviews I have seen rate this product as solid, with very few cases of the product dying. This is not the case with some other similar products (Netgear Rangemax Next WIRELESS-N Router I'm looking at you).That said I don't like the white exterior of it, and the lights are very bright. At night it seems as though there might be a tiny alien spacecraft landed under my desk. (think of that scene in E.T.) Those are minor quibbles though. Overall great product.

Let me start by saying, I've owned and have been using this router since October, 6 months ago. I'm currently an IT student in my final year with a major in telecommunications and a specialization in wireless technology. This router is awesome, I strongly urge people to read reviews and benchmark comparisons between this product and other similar products (linksys etc.) D-Link has higher throughput in almost all circumstances. It can also support a higher number of connections then it's direct competition (this is important for all you bit torrent lovers) This means your able to maintain a higher number of simultaneous connections to peers. I live in a student house with 2 NAS drives and 5 shared drives in total, serving mostly XVID/DIVX and streaming has never been a problem. If your looking for bang for your buck, you can't beat it.

I bought one several months ago and it has not performed a self induced reboot once. I have a two story house with a basement and there is not one spot with less than good signal. Setup is easy, securing the wi-fi was easy, and the speed increase is so much better compared to the old wireless router and cable internet. I have had less headaches tying my wired network to wireless than any other brand so far! D-Link is the brand for me in the future. Buffalo comes in a close second!

The only thing wrong with this router is that I can't see who is using the bandwidth. I bought it to supply teh webs to a house of 7 people, and one is sniping all our web dls. The best I can do is check the active sessions and see how many people have open...Extended wireless range on a G network by about 50%. It now covers the whole house!

i have had the product for two days it is replacing a linksys wireless-G 2.4GHZ. this D-link dir-655 xtreme.makes everythin run faster smoother.it took some time setup with software.i did the setup with out the software.all in all it a supper nice manchine. if you want speed this is the one to buy.

Compatibility with Shaw was an issue for about a month+, there is a new firmware out, but IT IS FIXED NOW. (so not really a weakness anymore)I had some compatibility issues under old firmware with my laptop, has been fully resolved under new firmware. I can have a VOIP connection in the garage no issue even when far away from the unit.Previously owned a DIR-625 and it greatly outperforms it.

I have problem with QoS engine. I regularly download large files from one of my FTP severs. If the QoS engine is disabled, my download speed is always around 200-300 KB/s. However, if the QoS is enabled even if there's no custom QoS rule defined, my download speed will gradually drop to 30-60 KB/s. Even though there's no other downloading/uploading connections, no voip, and the FTP downloading is the only active connection.Other than that, it works fine.

I replaced a Dlink DI-624 with this router and love it. my computer has a built in gigabit card and it connects at 1000mbps and it is super fast. I also have VoIP and it works better also. I can download songs or anything and still be on the phone at the same time and it dont slow down. if your having problems with a router or just buying your first one, I highly reccommend this one. easy to hook up and set up..

I've had this router for about 8 months (purchased it from Future Shop for much more than here). So far its been great. My range is excellent. I live in an old Condo, so we have cement walls, and my signal strengh teeters at roughly 80-90% at the opposite end of the condo. I use a VOIP adapter, as well as several devices (computers, laptops, Gaming systems and PVR hardware) and thus far I haven't had a single problem with this router. Excellent buy, I recommend it to everyone. Those who have bought based on my recommendation have been very happy as well.

I bought the DIR-655 a few months ago and love it. D-Link is all about quality, reliability and performance. I've recommended friends and family to D-Link and the products never let anyone down. The DIR-655 has many features and is quite easy to configure. I have my network using the 128-bit WEP with the full 64 characters. I'm using my Dell laptop with Draft N technology. Also, it works really well with my VoIP router and services. As of a few weeks ago, I upgraded the firmware and re-set up everything in a matter of a few minutes. This router is an excellent choice!!
