iomega Select 1TB 3.5" External Hard Drive

This drive operates in the Bermuda Triangle. Every couple of days, the files on the drive disappear. They only reappear when I shock the drive by cutting its power and computer connexions, then reconnect it. This company's drives are a waste of time and money and retailers should stop carrying them until they get their act together.

The drive works great and serves well as a backup drive! Lots of space for the money, hardware works well. If you're looking for an external drive to use as additional storage (example: not for backup purposes) then you might want to look at another product as this one doesn't have an on off switch and will remain on as long as you have the power plugged in. It's not that big of a deal to unplug the power cable, but if you think of it, if you're going to be doing that 100s of times over the life of the drive you should consider spending a little bit more to get a drive that can turn off.

I was really excited about buying this drive. The price is low for the capacity of the disc, the speed not that appealing but still the capacity is huge; got home and installed it in my laptop didnt recognize any new drive, so I went to my desktop and it also didnt recognize the drive. I tried to call iomega and guess what there is a fee of $25 if you wanna talk to them so I had to wait till next day and through live chat they said they would send a replacement. I wanted to do an emergency backup but well nothing is perfect!! so for now I am really unsatisfied with this drive and still waiting for the damn replacement (six days ago).

It was as described, there were no disappointing surprises. I do wish it had a bit faster transfer speed, a power switch and of course I know this is expecting much but I wish it didn't have to be plugged into a wall outlet (USB powered is nice). Not outstanding, but still very good. I am happy with what I got and will definitely put it to good use.

Some want longer cables, but why take up deskspace with something that you don't need contact with? I have mine sitting on top of the tower, out of site. AN OFF BUTTON would be nice for long periods when things are shut down - or power surges or outages during storms. It's reliable and I take it on vacation, it's LOADED with about 300gig of pictures that I share with family. QUICK TRANSFER. LOVE IT. May get another for the kids' computer.

I simply plugged it in and it showed up in explorer. Bought for a backup drive and started up my ol trusty old dos style batch file to copy my mp3 collection over and that was that. I would venture that a person with even partial use of one limb or more could operate this product.

Works great and can't beat the price! My last external drive came with backup software and I was hoping for the same with this drive (even though there was nothing in the description) but who cares? The price is right and it does what it says.

The Iomega Desktop Hard Drive is one of the best products that I own ! In fact, I have depended on it to keep my programs and files that I never want to lose. I would not want to be without it now, because I have been able to keep programs and files that are many years old, and this guy will bring them back anytime I call on it to do it !! After a reformat, or getting a new computer this little hard drive has been invaluable. With it, I am able to restore settings, bring back favorite files, and even programs that I would have lost without it. Definitly a great buy !! Really simple to use as well. Very good value !!!

I got this drive to back up my computer and stored burned DVD's movies. So far it has been great. I ran it for a week without unplugging it, and when wanted to access a file, it worked just fine. It is very quiet, and does not waste any time to be ready from when u plug it in. I have seen worst 1TB EXHD's for a lot more money, u just cant beat this deal. my only issue with this is that i wished it had a on off switch. A friend of mine used to get some movies from me, and said he is buying one pronto. Superior product at a steal of a price, go get you one now.

I ordered this as I was leaving on vacation for a few weeks and needed to bring a ton of stuff off my server. It's a little slow to copy, when moving 28 gig's, but it did it. Worked out of the box. it's been in three time zones now, on desks, in airports and everything with no issue. I'm really happy with it. I have not had that clicking that other people speak of. It might of been a bad run during the summer. I do wish it had a power switch. And the included USB cable could be longer. A 1 metre cable. So it sits on top of my pc instead of on my desk. not a big deal. but that is why I marked it down in Features.

I suggest buying this if you are looking for a decent portable starage drive. The price is awsome. It works well using an usb 2.0 drive. A little big.

I have always liked Iomega products and this external hard drive shows me that Iomega is still by far the best. It works great for backing up my computers and saving files and folders from other people's computers that I work on.
