My sons computer had a virus that would not let any spyware or antivirus programs run..the machine would just shut down when it got to the infected files...used this to hook the drive up to one of my other machines and cleaned it up...excellent product and a real time saver too..

I am on key with what BillM said. I ordered one of the original Sabrent USB to Sata/IDE adapters and it worked great. Recently I purchased another using exactly the same product number as the first, and received a POS that mimics the original. I would not recommend anyone purchasing this. For example. Do a search for the product code M501-1220 and you see the original which has a detachable SATA cable, a seperate power adapter for 1amp 2.5'' HDD's, and a SATA power adapter. The one that you receive now, does not have the added power adapter for operating 1amp 2.5'' HDD's and the SATA cable is permanent. The quality is also decreased by 80%. I as well would like to know how the product switched and how I can purchase the original product and not an imitation. Bad Bad Bad!

3 of my hard drives have stopped working since using this adapter! the most recent stopped working just today... my 120 gig hard drive with my most important files. the malfunction may have to do with disconnecting the usb cord without going to ''safely remove'' from your toolbar before disconnecting it. i unplugged and replugged it the usb and that's when the hard drive fried on me and no longer powers up, even when put inside a computer!

This thing is amazing.. being a technician I scan 10-20 pcs a day for virus/spyware - this saves me SO much time since I don't have to power up and down my shop pc for every drive I attach. GREAT PRODUCT!

I originally ordered one of these cables back in October and it worked beutifully. It was a 4-in-1 adapter instead of 5-in-1, as the current product is, but it worked great and still does. The latest incarnation, which has no indicator lights and doesn't even carry the Sabrent logo is a piece of junk. I haven't gotten it to work yet. I'd like to know what happened that Tiger direct replaced a product with the same number that doesn't match up to the quality of the original.

It worked just fine by following the directions. I was using it for an old mp3 harddrive that was pretty big. Only thing is there is no real manual just a little guide. So you kind of have to figure it out yourself.

super slow and hangs alot, I was thinking that the speed would be the same as a external usb drive in an enclosure but I was wrong. Plus it does not mount half the time. Not sure why its so slow

I have many external drives. but this setup constantly gives me errors while transfering data to or from a drive with this adapter! If it worked it would be a very handy item, I only tried the ide interface

This is the best $25 bucks I have spent in a while. Lets you go through a pile of old drives and pull off what you need with very little hassle. I have used it both under XP and Linux with zero problems.

Worked once each for 2.5 & 3.5 drives, then wouldn't produce a drive letter assignment. Tried on both Win XP and 2K. Sabrent support gave no response to email, and then, when I called, I was told to send an email. I sent it back to Tiger. I guess I'll try another time since other reviews have been good and would be a great tool for me.

I've had a number of IDE/USB adapters. This is the ONLY one I have ever used that would work with drives no matter how they were jumpered. (Though other Sabrent devices probably will.) This one works with a drive set as Single, Master with slave, Slave, or Cable Select. (One I have used wants the drive as Single and will not work any other way - some drives don't even have this setting.) In addition, it has a nice-looking, reasonably long, thick (but flexible) cable. If only I had a male-male adapter to see if it will works with a master and slave together... It would also be neat to see if it will work with multiple drive types together - like an IDE and a SATA at the same time...

Worked excellent for SATA, ATA and 2.5 notebook drives. Worked well in win98, winME, WInXP and win2000. Great way to get data off a HD with an OS that will not boot. Also good way to setup NEW laptop HD (which will not hold second HD) through USB port when you just want to upgrade laptop HD and keep current OS and programs. Other models do not supply a plug in Power Supply to run the HD. I recommend this one.

Excelent product. The ''puck'' is much smaller than the pics seem to show. Running XP, it works out of the box without drivers. USB to machine has to be last connection for device recognition. I immediately tried it on an old IDE, tore my laptop apart and tried the laptop HD, and also my old DVD burner. Worked perfect every time. This is the best $deal$ for the most versatility out there. Only complaint- CD/DVD drive connections, the power and data connectors are too close and they crash into each other. This is a workable hassle, as I am still very happy with this essential tool.

Got mine yesterday and have used it at work for a 2.5'' SATA, 3.5'' IDE and a 2.5'' IDE drive. Worked without a hitch. Wish I'd had one of these years ago.

This item worked as advertised. I tested each connector (SATA, IDE 2.5 & 3.5) using Ghost to image the hard drives. I was very pleased with the performance/speed of data transfer when loading the ghost images. Only complaint the box comes with more connectors/cables than shown in the detailed picture. It works great on a technician workbench but not so sure how well it would work in a mobile environment. I plan to buy a few more.

This is the one device (okay, devices) you need to carry to connect any hard drive to a USB port for troubleshooting or data recovery. Sweet, and the price is right! If you service computers you should have something like this. Also, if you have old drives sitting around, it takes about 2 seconds to connect an old drive and use it as a backup device. Much faster than dealing with external drive enclosures. TigerDirect continues to be the place to look for odd gadgets similar to this.
