It functions! And it's affordable! it's not the most sturdy piece of gear. Be gentle! The box comes with no any directions on how to connect something. I had to stare at the device and the plugs and realized that the two.5 drive required external power plugged in. Other than that, it was a piece of cake. The connections do seem a bit flimsy so be cautious if you are working with this to clone a lot of drives.

operates for all sata as i have used it on each three.five and 2.five notebook drives , life saver for me in restoring a macbook pro with a botched boot camp set up(user error). Top quality is fair or I ought to say it should be relatively rugged as it was in the worst pack job I have ever noticed (box was crushed) vacation rush maybe dont know first time from the egg with this issue none as of however , not confident about the long time durability but in the brief it fared properly

Will perform with several devices (Haven't attempted cd/dvd drives yet). Simplistic and practically straight forward. You have to hook up power and information connections in a particular order and it seems to be different orders depending on the connection form. Doesn't give guidelines for this dilemma on its "instruction" paper. Kinda tends to make me mad. I gave it three stars mainly because it does get the job done right after you figure out which connection to make initial. I would advise this to good friends, but not those with small patience.

none The energy adapter failed soon after my initial transfer. When I proceeded to use it for an additional client's information transfer it triggered the drive to smoke and destroyed the logic board. It took two other test drives to figure out what the issue was particularly. Three cooked drives tends to make for a thoroughly unpleased client. newegg.com is nonetheless great. Sabrent on the other hand has some explaining to do.

Inside 2 days of owning this, I required it to transfer files from a dead box's HDD to a laptop. This factor worked like a charm, was quickly, and the client was really impressed by how smoothly the method went. Feels low-cost I was skeptical of this item due to some preceding critiques about catastrophic meltdowns and such. I have a feeling those are due to either unstable house/strip power or incorrectly plugging in the molex. Purchase this, it's amazing.

Good product does what it says it will do. no problems with displaying drives on pc. The casing is a little bulky thinking of the energy cable has to sit subsequent to the ide-usb connection. causing a little difficulty connecting the tough ware. all and all excellent device, I just have a handful of drives I switch back and forth in between. So I am forced to order a secound Sabrent Ide/sata to usb cable.

- Required no driver disc.- Worked with XP-SP3 and Vista House Premium 64bit.- USB Cable is greater excellent and shielded.- Loads drives promptly and is hot-swappable (non-OS drive).- Presents far more versatility than a docking station. Connect almost any form of drive IDE/SATA 2.five" and three.5". - The SATA cable it comes with is short, like 3 inches.- A easy plastic mold could enable this to function as a docking station alternative. C'mon SABRENT engineers, it is also simple of a feature to style.- Will not operate as a bootable USB drive. Even though it wasn't a have to for me. I had one of these from Nippon Labs. That one is junk and the energy provide might even blow your 3.5" drives! Don't likelihood it.This one operates with Vista whereas Numerous Others DO NOT. This is a must have tool if you want flexibility and quick access to drives without going through physical set up/uninstall. Combo this up with a cheap Netbook and you can produce a full diagnostics tool kit. It allows me to access any desktop drive, with out removing the drive. It is a large time saver!

Works flawlessly for what it's developed to do. I use it for cloning and information recovery the most, and I haven't had an problem yet with functional functionality. The SATA cable that comes with it is affordable and about 3 inches extended. The AC power cable is also truly short, so you need a close wall plug or a longer AC cable. I also didn't like the cheap molex-to-sata energy adapter.I fixed this annoyance by acquiring one particular of these:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812226004&cm_re០-226-_-12-226-004-_-ProductI replaced the AC cable with a spare one that is the regular six ft length. Gave it 4 eggs due to the poor high quality cables, but the adapter does the job. Very recommended.

Functions Great. I have one for individual use and got a different for work. A have to have for any tool kit. SATA cable is actually short. Also, I modified with a lamp switch. I'm not confident why a switch on the AC cable isn't part of the style. Will try to pull power from USB bus when attached to IDE notebook drives if external power isn't connected very first.

All-in-one particular device that can handle nearly all desktop and laptop drives. A need to-have for any technician's toolkit. For data transfers or malware scans, it definitely beats popping open a case, obtaining an empty port/unused cable, and situating the drive where it won't put tension on the connectors. It also beats using an external HDD enclosure. Just plug in and run. The pins in the male molex connectors tend to wiggle around. Also, as other people have pointed out, the directions need to be expanded upon. Relating to connecting cables, the user's manual simply states, "Connect your drive and personal computer." For three.five" drives, it does mention plugging in the energy ahead of connecting the USB cable, which is great. With the couple of laptop HDDs I have tested, the power adapter was not required. A USB 2. port provided adequate power. This might not constantly be the case, nonetheless. If the computer to which you are connecting is rather old, or the drive has uncommon power needs, you might need to have the energy adapter. Regarding the molex connectors, just take your time with them and resist the urge to force them into position.Cable lengths are as follows (approximate & ymmv; I can't guarantee that Sabrent will be consistent right here): - USB: 28"- Transformer to female molex: 28"- Three-prong energy cable: 49"- SATA information and power: four"- Power cable for 2.5" drives: 8"General, the cable lengths are not a hindrance. There is commonly much more than enough cable to do the job.I am really satisfied with this product. I'd recommend it to everyone.

The price tag is fair if you don't thoughts some aggravation when using Windows XP. It comes with a power pack and adapters for SATA & PATA (IDE) for 2.five" and 3.five" drives so it functions for common and laptop tough drives. I'm operating Windows XP32 & XP64 and in both operating systems it has a complicated time locating the drive and generating it offered. I had to restart my Pc every single time I connected a HD as this is not a hot-swap piece of gear. I haven't had a possibility to test in Windows 7 as it is not set up on my pc. It was challenging to locate a device which has the versatility of this peripheral with the value point. General, it's not negative if you don't mind restarting your computer every single time you want to hook up a new HD. (Which BTW, you ought to do with the Pc off then commence). I would have given this a five egg rating if it was hot-swappable and worked each and every time I connected a HD to it. I would have offered this 1 egg, but with the value I gave it two eggs.

Affordable and you get what you spend for. This thing is not all that it cracked up to be. Directions are written by orangutans or by Kindergartners... you choose. I only purchased it since I don't have any IDE hookups in any of my machines anymore mainly because I use modern day computer systems. Energy adapter is junk and would be far better utilized in the bottom of a swimming pool. I perform on a lot of other folks's stuff so I see older style IDE drives that I require to pull data off of. I believed that this was going to be astounding. I have yet to get this thing to function effectively. I have attempted to plug this in, in a wide variety of methods. Plugged in the drive, powered it up with the external power, and then plugged in the USB....absolutely nothing. It made the drive pulse when plugged in major me to think that the power wasn't steady, either also a lot or too low to permit the drive to function. Just a word of caution to any future buyers of this. This thing will fry drives as others have mentioned. If you are worried about this being a final ditch work to pull information off an older drive, or any drive for that matter, be careful. This literally will be the last try without sending it off to get data pulled by an professional.
